    Hi Derrick, yeah but you must realise organic food is sprayed also. Yes with naturally occurring compounds but deadly and toxic none the less. In tests organic produce have often been shown to have higher toxin content than non organic. Though organic food does have higher nutrient levels. A good tip is a 9 part water to 1 part salt wash. Which can reduce toxic compounds by over 95%. I keep a large bowl next to the sink for this purpose. Love the channel, keep up the good work. Love to you guys. Joe from the UK.

    Definitely agree it's more important to eat fresh fruits and veggies than to worry about organic. Most of my organic produce comes from Costco, it's much cheaper than grocery store/health food store organic produce. I could not/would not afford solely organic produce from a regular grocery store.
    There's definitely not a lot of local organic produce available where I am either and I will always choose local over anything else! Much friendlier to the environment and it's important to support the people in your community.
    Love the always positive videos :) happy to see a fellow Canadian putting out awesome vegan content!

    I think you're spot on with you're rationale behind purchasing organic or non-organic produce. I've always thought that buying whole (non-organic) foods had to be the better option when budget or availability is limited, but you're explanation has confirmed it! Thanks man. PS The entire market seems so interesting but I got so excited when I saw there was an actual Goat on the actual roof! NO WAY. Love it! I am envious that you have it all on your doorstep(ish).

    We definitively have a similar take on organic vs non. A fruit is a fruit and local fruit is important and delicious. My husband and I buy baking soda and scrub/rinse the produce with hot water and baking soda before we eat it. Not sure if you’ve heard of that or maybe it’s a myth. You would probably know! Fun video. Loved that market.

    I live in a rural area and we have TONS of farmers markets in my area with cheap fresh fruits and vegetables from the area. I definitely have very similar views on organic and conventional produce as you. I live in New England, so I do not have a year-round local produce option, so very often I just go with the organic. But sometimes I do not, because it seems good quality, and often as you said, local farms are just not certified organic., and they grow wonderful food. Thank you for your video!

    Super cool vlog, you make us want to move to the Island when we get back to Canada. The slow mo was on point here, got that 60FPS going strong!! (is this the new cam you were mentioning a few vlogs back?) We agree too that all the illnesses and diseases we have out there aren't due to whether people eat organic or not, as long as you're getting the right "whole foods" in you than you're doing better than most!!!

    • @Simnettnutrition
      @Simnettnutrition  7 років тому

      YES, great point. Most diseases are caused by bad diet, not a bit of pesticides on a healthy diet. Yes, I love the 60fps. And yes, this is the canon G7x. It is such a joy to film with. Thanks for noticing.

    for me it goes - fresh fruit/veg still alive with enzymes from a near by farmers market whether it's organic or not > organic fruit/veg from supermarket that will have lost a lot of it's enzymes with the travelling and preparation > non-organic supermarket veg/fruit but remember some fruit and veg are perfectly fine to eat non-organic because it may be already protect with a tough skin or need very little protection from insects, also getting frozen fruit and veg seems a decent option as i've read they are sprayed less.
    simnett does make point that i've wondered about, yes these pesticides have dodgy chemicals but wouldn't specific fruit and veg that are know to cleanse the body of chemicals counter the pesticide chemicals? I know algea based powders spirulina and chlorella are good at ridding the body of toxins.

    I agree wholeheartedly regarding the organic vs conventional debate. My motto is good/better/best, do what you can when you can. People forget that a majority of the studies done regarding plant diets and health are done with conventional plant foods. People are *improving* their health with conventional.

    It has been difficult to know what we really can eat or not eat. My wife and I struggle with wanting to eat organic but not being able to afford it. I appreciate your viewpoint because we are the ones that go get fast food out of frustration. It's good to see it's okay to eat non organic and that the main goal is to whole foods. Which is our goal. I'm a huge support of GMO's but not Round Up. My concern isn't really on the spray because it can be washed. I'm more worried about seeds that are coated in Round Up, not sprayed after they are grown. So from the time it is a seed to harvest, Round Up is literally a part of every stage. That's the scary part. Thank you for all you do! You have been a major inspiration for this household :)

    • @sluggo206
      @sluggo206 7 років тому +1

      Local is the new organic. If something organic is flown thousands of miles it loses nutrients along the way, it's grown in huge monocultures, and you miss out on the varieties that don't travel well or supermarkets don't stock. Sometimes with local foods you can find out who the farmer is and ask them their practices. My city's farmers' markets restrict the origin to about 150 miles but don't require organic: some farmers are transitional meaning they're in the 7-year process to become organic, or they don't get organic certification because it costs a lot of money.

  • @jojoGCAM
    @jojoGCAM 7 років тому

    Totally agree on the "fruits / veggies is better than none, even if non organics"
    Even doctor Greger show that the "extra" risk of having non organic is far far faaaar lower than the benefits of eating it
    Keep up the good work man!

As far as the organic vs non-organic goes, I think that organic will be more affordable in the future because veganism is blooming and a lot of people, at least in my area, are supporting local and organic producers. There are lots of benefits to organic options but it is just not yet possible for the entire population. Time will show, for sure :)

    Love your videos Derek! Currently trying to figure out my life purpose lol and one thing that I can continually geek out on is studying food, what it does, the pros the cons of different foods on the body, etc.... my question for you is, since I love learning about the field
    So much, do you recommend schooling to become a RDN? Is it worth the cost of schooling? Anything helps! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and inspiration through your videos! 🤙🏼

    Hey! Goats on the roof! I visited this market while on my road trip to Canada with my family this summer!! And you're right: better local than organic from China... best deal would be organic local! like the blueberry small stand we found when leaving Port Albeni ;-) In Geneva, there are lots of options of organic local but it's sooo expensive...

    Yo derrick , another awesome video and the goat on the roof lol. I think you're spot on Whole Foods / fruit and vegetables are better choices organic or not. Sure has changed my life in the short 2 months I have been vegan. Thanks man oh is your e book with the recipes done?

    You do realize that wasp is carrying that caterpillar to suck its internals until it's fully dead, right? You're so positive about everything man, you'd probably say: "Oh what a beautiful wonderful world!", with a smile radiating all that positive motivating energy. EDIT: that kinda freaks me out Derek.

    DEREK!!!!! 😁 another great video! That market is so beautiful!!!! The more I research, organic just seems like the way to go!!!
    Right now Im vegetarian, and the more I research and enjoy your videos it puts me right on the cusp to go vegan! I know I can do it but it will be a process for me like anything else.
    Question for you Derek......what changes to your health and body did you notice in the beginning, the more and more you stayed with the vegan lifestyle? Would love to know please and thank you! 😊

    I made a soup with whole green onions and garlic etc. I went on a date, I guess it went bad. When I got back my brother said I smelled like garlic/onion.
