Derek, great video as always. Love Crystal in these too. A small clarification. You said that Dr. McDougall reccomends a low-salt diet. That’s actually the opposite of what he reccomends, or perhaps he’s changed his stance on this. But he actually reccomends a moderate to high salt intake on a plant-based diet. Again, his words, not mine. He says that salt is only bad when it’s combined with animal foods. Check out his talk called “Low-salt diet, not the best for you”. Interesting video. Take care!
Hey! Thanks for correcting me. I sometimes get mixed up on the minutia of what certain plant based doctors recommend or disagree on. Here is the video you were referring to. I appreciate the correction. ua-cam.com/video/aVtOzOROUqE/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/zfQPhNhQC5o/v-deo.html Mcdougall spoke about this on Nov 2 2018 in this really good talk he goes much more in depth, started doing it myself. I realized i was getting almost no sodium other than my 3 pieces of silver hills bread
Try to have 2 compost bins if you can, fill one, then once its full, rotate it into the other one (so its basically upside down) and leave it to rot while you fill the other one. So basically you have 1 rotting and one that your filling. Add mostly vegatative waste, ie grass clippings, uncooked kitchen waste, any old plants from the garden, but not too much woody stuff. You can even add paper and old cotton clothes!. When you rotate it you should hopefully see some little worms and other insects loving all the rotting goodness. Once it rots down enough it will be the most beautiful crumbly brown texture and smell tasty gorgeous! Rotating is the key! When your filling it up make sure you poke it down the sides and corners so you dont leave lots of gaps, as that will cause it to dry out. Some people cover theirs to increase the heat (the hotter it is, the faster it will rot), but I tend to leave mine open when im first filling it so the rain can get to it to keep it moist, then chuck something heavy and permeable on top once its been rotated (old carpet is ideal). If your really lucky, in the UK, on hot days you can find slow worms and grass snakes under the cover (thats as exciting as the wildlife gets in Dorset!). Loads of love for you both, Nat the gardener x
Crystal is so right about minimalist baker, I can't tell you how many recipes I've made from hers and it all turn out amazing. For this years thanksgiving I'm bringing her Lentil Loaf that I made double batches of and it's amazing. Bring that with a side of homemade mashed potatoes and green beans or whatever roasted veggies and I'm set 👌🏼
Kristi A. Jones totally agree with you that's why I don't pay no find to it and just cook without the oil, like for example, she used oil for the Lentil Loaf but had next to it to replace with water if not using oil, and that's what I did
Love you guys, love amm, and would LOVE to hear your celery experience update in the future! It is so great that Crystal feels so comfortable sharing about menstrual related topics. It's so important yet still has a "hush hush" vibe in the mainstream
Great video, Derek and Crystal. To add on to the first question about recycling, I think it's easy to forget about the first two R's of waste management: reduce and reuse. I think it's really important to focus on those as recycling should only be the very last option.
I always love AMM's. I really like Crystal coming on more frequently. She is such a fibrant person and really love her energy. Much love, health, abundance and prosperity to you both.
I love the AMM´s. Thank you two, I am the only vegan in my social circle and watching the AMM´s always gives me arguments and things I can say to advocate this amazing lifestyle. :)
I absolutely love seeing the ask me mondays! :) I always watch them while cleaning the flat or while dish washing :D And I especially love it when Crystal is there as well! :D You two together just make it even more fun! :D
Love your AMM videos. Love you two. Just back from a calisthenic work out in my jungle gym and an ocean swim (don’t hate me for living in Hawaii) Derrick, you’ve brought so much good into my life (and a mandolin, Vitamix, a pastry scraper, and a recipe ebook haha). Thank you for the positive energy and leading by example.
I'm like Crystal and also hate to go outside when it is very cold. One thing I do to keep myself moving is to walk or ride my indoor cycle while watching your videos! I especially like the AMM when you are outside because then I get to learn from you and see the beautiful scenery all while enjoying my indoor bike ride in the warmth! :)
I love these videos Derek! You and Crystal are lovely people, and your videos are always informative, encouraging and well-composed. For a health-nut such as myself, your channel is one of my favorites! Thank you for everything you do! Keep up the great work!
Derek, love to see you and Crystal in videos. Thank you for the flow of information, education and motivation. Since we bought your e-book, we've had your granola every day for breakfast (all time fav). I can make it with my eyes closed, well not really, but you know what I mean. Celery juice - simply amazing. My husband is healing from thyroid (hashimoto's was his diagnose). I learned about medical medium book from Ellen Fisher recommendation and continued on reading Anthony's other books. The result is mind blowing. We drink celery juice every morning, the taste - grows on you. My husband is on day 66 of detox (recommendation from medical medium thyroid). We are currently waiting for test results, just upon physical examination the doctor was pleasantly surprised with the improvement from his last test done in February, the next step will be to lower his thyroid medication dosage. We now have a monster juicer at home and planning to keep our daily celery and cucumber juice regime. Celery juice - give it a go, it might change your life.
Just sat down with a cup of tea and a vegan flapjack on a rainy cooold evening wondering what to cosy up and watch. THEN I SEE YOU UPLOADED 20 MINS AGO YEEE BOOOY
I made a wicked compost in the back corner of my garden with wired fence the one with green coating so the sun can shine through and decompose the food faster. It works awesome. It's about 4x4x4 ft. I also put leaves and trimmings from bushes.
Cheap student meals: highly appreciated. For me, but more for my friends so they have another reminder that veganism does not have to be expensive. 👍🏼💸
I absolutely adore Crystal!!! Love you both really, but Crystal, it would be so great if you had your own channel about womens health and whatever you are in to because you are just wonderful to listen too! ❤
Great vid, how can anyone not watch to the end..... love the scenery and just your commentary from all the questions, and then you have Crystal again yay.
The best Q&A around! Thank you guys for your energy! Crystal you re so so so funny! Dereck bring her always around! Always good infos in your channel !
I agree with Crystal at least partially, regarding stationary bike for winter. For winter exercise (or summer, in south USA) I have a stationary recumbent bike and I can listen to books or do anything on my computer sitting on that, and then spin when I want to do it. Using it as a desk chair makes it much easier for me personally, and it can be used at night any time.
Great video! With the question about salt: I am a Nurse and would like to add that I have seen more people with low sodium levels, not high. People are becomming so afraid of salt intake due to high blood pressure but actually salt is an essential mineral for our bodies and so long as we are not consuming crazy amounts of it, our bodies are capable of ridding excess salt. Especially for us vegans that eat mostly whole unprocessed foods, we don't have to worry too much about salt hiding in our foods.
You guys are so cute! I love watching Derek cook while I’m cleaning or cooking myself. I just wanted to comment that your nature videos are the best. You live in an amazing place.
I am relatively new to your channel, but I wanted to say that I definitely love your #amm ish series. It is always nice to learn some new tid bits about being vegan. Can't wait for the next one! :)
Good for you guys that you celery juice. It’s so hard to swallow for me for any green vegetable juices, but I like red beet root juice with Dulgo crab apple juice in fall season. I make smoothies almost every morning to get my green. Lately I’ve been sprouting broccoli. I add broccoli sprouts to my smoothies. I always add red beet root to my smoothies for color. I use broccoli sprouts in many different recipes. Spring rolls, salad,... My husband and I really enjoy your videos.
Im from Winnipeg too and I love mountain biking to work in the snow.... though -20 is my cold limit. There is no better inspiration for winter than the Rocky IV snow training montage.
The vegan company, Field Roast makes excellent holiday roasts that come with gravy and are really nice for the holidays. It is also possible to make your own roasts by rolling different nuts and vegetables in filo dough - these are a lot of work to make, but definitely worth the effort. Even non-vegans LOVE them. Vegetable lasagna is another non-vegan favorite. Chili or soups that include veggie crumbles are also good and sometimes non-vegans can't really tell the difference between the crumbles and ground beef or turkey. There are tons of recipes available on you tube.
Crazy thing man! You've been an inspiration since I started watching your channel and after a while I see how successful it has been so congrats and keep this going mate!
I've been watching you for quite some time now, and I just wanted to give you a big thumbs up from France ! Keep up the good work my friend, you're truly a radiant person :)
Great video! McDougal is actually okay with salt in moderation unlike most of the WFPB doctors. He had similar advice as you, dont cook with it, but use it sparingly before eating so that you can actually taste it while minimizing your intake. 1 teaspoon max or day. He also mentioned there have been cultures with a mostly vegetarian diet, and a very high intake in salt, but no cronic cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure.
Actually I think you have the plant based doctors mixed up, dr. Mcdougal is actually pro salt. There's many interviews or speeches of him advocating salt on the starch solution. (: thank you for the answer to that question

Hey Derek! 2 channels I would recommend for learning ANYTHING about home gardening would be, 1. Growing your Greens with John Kohler. and 2. VeganAthlete with Jake Mace. (both vegans)
I definitely notice that if I eat less 'clean' for a little bit and eat more processed foods I smell a bit more than usual! Also my mother noticed that my general body smell changed when I went vegan. You can tell who isn't vegan at the gym by their smells that's all I'll say hahah. Loved this video as always!
Hello Derek, First off I just want to say I enjoy your content! I find Crystal and yourself to be very humble, friendly and good-natured; positive vibes all around. I’ve watched approximately 10 of your videos off and on for the last year. I’ve been working out for 10+ years on a typical western diet but I’ve always incoorperated a lot more fruits/veggies than most people as I enjoy them. In this time I’ve cut out Milk about 7years ago and lately I’ve been making attempts to incooperate a lot of greens/vegetables into my diet at home. As I hit my early 30’s I like to cook full vege/vegan meals at home now and eat meat when I go out to social gatherings; I’d like to thank you for being part of that journey by popping up on my UA-cam with awesome content. Finally a question.... I’m interested in learning more about soy products, as with anything you can find content/articles that say Soy is either horrible for you, fine in modern amounts or the best thing since sliced bread. At this time I’m incooperating more of it into my daily meals combined with beans for protein; what do you suggest when it comes to Soy intake per meal or per week and why? Thanks for your time from a fellow Canadian. Keep up the great content and positive vibes! #AMM
Hi Derek & Crystal, I do not salt my food. I stop salting my food when I was pregnant with my first child. I do eat the dried seaweed on occasion. I haven't used deodorant in years unless I feel I need it. I use to wash my hair every other day. But now just once or twice a week. And it's true it's less greasy now than it used to be.
I also noticed a big difference on my PMS symptoms and huge difference on menstrual cramps since started drinking celery juice. So, just for that it is def worthy.

Yes! Great ideas. Yah, we should have mentioned a main like lentil loaf!
That beat in the beginning was so fire! Also I’m gonna have to start juicing some Celery 👌🏼🔥
