The Abbasid Caliphate was lucky that they won the battle by the defection of the Tang ally. The might of the Tang Empire would have put the Abbasid to the sword if the traitor An Lushan didn't revolt.
@OXYMORON Abbasid caliphate didn't last 1000 years and Tang at that time was more powerful than Abbasids cuz 1)they had bigger population 2)better equipment.
@OXYMORON 1) umayad empire wasn't biggest that was mongol(if we count only land connected empires) 2)Abbasids didn't destroyed Sassanian empire and Roman empire that was Rashidun caliphate who defeated them when they were exhausted from previous war.
An Lushan's mother was a Gokturk of the Ashide clan and served as a sorceress. His original name might have been Aluoshan or Galuoshan, which meant "war" in old turkic. His father died early, and his mother Lady Ashide married a Turkic general An Yanyan (安延偃), who was a brother of the general An Bozhi (安波至).

I am from China. During this war, a Tang Dynasty soldier named Du Huan was taken prisoner and met many Chinese papermakers, carpenters, and painters in Arabia, and here is my English translation based on ancient Chinese documents. [Record of Chinese Tang Dynasty captives living in Arabia] The name of the king of Arabia was Mamun, and he was born here. Arab women were tall and plump, with beautiful clean clothes and moon-like beauty. The women went out and covered their faces. Silks and pearls from various countries are in abundance in the markets. Camels and donkeys walk through the streets. Vases of Chinese porcelain are offered by merchants to noblemen at festivals. Rice and wheat flour are available here, just like in China. Here grapes are the same size as eggs. There was a love of spices. Weavers, goldsmiths, painters, Fan Shu and Liu Hua from Shaanxi, China, and Lv Li from the east bank of the Yellow River. They also drove with camels. Their horses, said to be born from the mating of a dragon and a horse in the West Sea, have small bellies and long legs, and can run a thousand miles a day. There is also the ostrich, which is 3 meters high and has feet bigger than a camel's hoof, so that a man can ride an ostrich. There are also palm trees, the fruit is like Chinese dates, can be pressed to produce oil, eating dates can prevent disease. The climate in Arabia is warm, no snow and no ice. People often suffered from malaria, and within a year, half of those who got sick would die. Arabia conquered more than 50 countries and sent troops to defend them. The westernmost part of the Arabian territory reached the Black Sea.

No, they didin't, the Abbasids never extended that far, in fact the Tang and Abbadis quickly became allies afterwards. The current state of Tarim Basin was done by the Karakanid Turks who waged a jihad and took over the region then forcefully converted the locals to Islam. Google it
M Learn more history before making biased comments. Was China ruled by other ethnicities other than Han for the most part of the history? Come on, from Xia(夏) or Shang (商)to modern PRC. China was only partially ruled in the northern area by minorities in the period of five barbaric uprising(五胡乱华), then Liao(辽) and Jin(金) as well as defeated Japan. Only Mongols and Manchurian/Jurchens managed to take complete control of China in Yuan(元) and Qing dynasties(清). Xiongnu(匈奴), Gokturks(突厥汗国), Uyghur(畏兀儿;回鹘)Oirat(瓦剌), and Zungaria(准噶尔) were influential nomadic regimes at the border, but they never managed to establish a recognized dynasty in Chinese heartland. Thus, the combined history of China under non-Han Chinese rule only count for about 1000 years. What about the other 3000 to 4000 years? It's still under the control of Han Chinese. If you count total control of China, only Mongols and Jurchens succeeded once respectively, and they were all driven back by Han in their demises. The other major dynasties in Chinese history like Qin(秦), Han(汉), Jin(晋), Song(宋) and Ming(明) are completely ruled by Han Chinese. While Sui(隋) and Tang(唐)are paternally Han ethnicities and use pedigree of their fathers' families instead of their maternal lineages that contain Proto-Mongolic/Turkic/Caucasian genes. Just like you won't describe the kingdom of France is ruled by Austrian or Habsburg if they have mothers or queens from the House of Habsburg. Last but not the least, where's your so-called East Turkestan? It only managed to survive in a short period of time during the turmoil of late Qing dynasty or ROC and surrendered quickly as General Zuo Zongtang (Remember the taste/fear of General Tso's chicken? It's named after him) and General Wang Zhen marched back to Xinjiang. Today, there's only Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, but no such East Turkestan. Turkic ethnicities are living better and enjoy greater gender equality in modern China than under the rule of East Turkestan separatists.

"muslims ottomans not the Turks" Turkic people, not just people of modern day Turkey. One empire after the next came into fruition; Seljuk Turks, Mamluk Empire, Khilji Dynasty etc. This battle almost breathed a new life into the tribal Turks of central asia. Gave them a vision, I think, they never had. Conquest, power and kingdoms.
BIGMrighthere the Manluk empire was caccaustion ( i don’t know how to spell it ) but yeah the Turkish people became Muslims and they after that became great in every term, sad though many Turks still hate Arabs even though they are Muslims and historical allies
@@o7016-c7i The Turkic people are a diverse bunch. There are those in central asia, there are also those from the caucuses region as you said, we've had them in medieval India as well. Mamluks were slave soldiers (not like americas idea of slaves doe lol), a lot of them were of turkic origins. Kazakstanis for example are of turkic descent and live in the Caucasus region. And you're right, the turks and arabs should have got a long but they allowed themselves to be played by the British. The British played old divide and conquer strategy; pit the Muslims against each other, destroyed the caliphate and walked off as the winner.
One of the major reason of why the Chinese Tang Dynasty and Arabic empire were hostile towards each other was because the Arabs invaded the Persians which was allied with China, Tang and Persia had great relations. After the Persian empire was destroyed, the Persian prince fled to China for asylum.
God Guides To His Light Whom He Wills ! Yes. They still had the remnants of the Sassanid court living in Chang'an. By the very nature of distance and having their own problems, the Tang couldn't have mounted an attack on the Arabs. Then the Arabs made a move on them, guess what happened next?
Having looked it up, the reasons for the battle may have been far simpler with the Sassanid royalty living in Chang'an being a convenient excuse/propaganda. The Umayyads deposed a local ruler in the region which resulted in a Tang response. The Tang sent an army to reinstate their vassal and succeeded, keeping several garrisons nearby to keep an eye on things. The Abassids then overthrew the Umayyads and wanted to consolidate the formers territories, cue confrontation.

Ming(1368-1644) is too late to depict Tang(7th century-10th century) anyway. Tang units are notable for crossbows/heavy bows(连弩/震天弓) and heavy blades (唐刀,陌刀). I assume you can find mods in games like mount and blade.

@Azzam 111 Actually Talas has nothing to do with Turks being Muslim. Karluks continued being non-Muslim for centuries. Talas was unimportant battle for Arabs and Turks. For Chinese it was a mess, they failed to advance. And Turks do not like Arabs but they do not like anybody. We like being on our own.
@Azzam 111 Slavery mechanism is simple, competing tribes sell their kinsman to the rich buyers. Show me one Arabic raid deep into the Turkish steppes of Kazakhstan? You can not, first of all it is a great diversion from the silk road, useless. We had Turkish mercenaries in the Byzantines as well, by the way.
@Azzam 111 so in conclusion, we had mercenaries in all countries. We have nothing to do with chivalry. We are paranoid, thinking everybody as sworn enemies, not just Arabs. We are not a peaceful people, I am sorry for the invasion of Syria, but if the Russians were not around, Syria was gone for good.
Hey I have a suggestion about the emblems for Chinese nations, but it’s just my opinion so u can disagree as much as u want. I understand that as China did not use national banners in the same way as the west, u use the name of the dynasty in an emblem, although sometimes there was never that exact emblem in use. Instead of using the kaishu 楷书calligraphy font for the characters, you could use the Seal Script (篆体字 zhuantizi)which we’re used on seals and stamps. Sometimes this font was used on banners. It could make the emblems/icons for Chinese armies or nations in your maps more authentic

I learned this battle in school in China. Arabian got the paper making technology from captured workers in Chinese army. There is one Chinese captive whose name is Du huan. He stayed in middle East for about 10 years and finally returned to China. He wrote a book about his experience but unfortunately the book was lost in history, but some of its contents were found in other books. It says he was captured in Talas and forced to join the Arabian army to fight in North Africa. He was allowed to return to home in 761, he then got on board a boat in Red sea and went back to Guangzhou, China via Srilanka.
Tang dynasty was one of the greatest empires in China's history. But, actually, this war happened in the time that had civil strife. The emperor didn't even know when the war was happening because it was too far away from the capital city.
The Tang emperor was probably senile by then, he should have abducted at least 10~15 years earlier than he did, the An Lushan rebellion that led to the decline of the Tang might have been avoided.
Another important impact of this battle was that it helped trigger the infamous An Lushan Rebellion (755 - 763 AD), which marked the decline of the Tang Empire.
AlfredGanQuan hey! by any chance, do you know how the battle of talas led to technological and cultural transfer? I’m thinking it would be gunpowder and paper making, but I’m not sure. Thank you in advance!

According to Wikipedia The vast majority of Western scholars generally believe that the number of Tang troops in this battle was between 20,000 and 30,000, of which two-thirds were Han people, and one-third of servants such as Ge Lulu and local indigenous troops. The Arab army has 200,000 men. I think this statement is more true Because the Tang army at that time was like the US army now, and like the Israel Defense Forces now, it was very well equipped and very powerful. For example According to Chinese historical records, the ordinary infantrymen of the Tang Army at that time each had a spear, a horizontal knife, a short knife, a bow, a pot of arrows, iron helmets, bright light armor, chain mail, and leather army boots. All the workmanship is excellent, and the single horizontal knife uses the clad steel and steel clamping technology. It is very difficult to make and takes a long time, but it is very sharp. In ancient times, ordinary infantrymen were usually equipped with only one long weapon. However, the Tang Dynasty gave soldiers long weapons and also equipped with horizontal knives and short knives. This is like the modern infantry equipped with an automatic rifle and a shotgun per person plus a pistol. Just ask, even now, how many countries have such luxurious equipment? This is just an ordinary infantry, and the cavalry is equally luxurious. In addition, there is a Modao army similar to an armored unit. Mo Dao is a two-handed sword with a length of nearly two meters. Two-thirds of it is a sharp blade. The height of the soldier must be 1.9 meters or more, and many soldiers are more than 2 meters in height. According to historical records, those who are heirs will be broken. This sentence means that whoever stands in front of the Mo Dao Army, even the cavalry who rushes over, will be led by a man and a horse, and split in half...Of course, this army is only under Anxi's protective mansion. The Northwest Frontier Guards only have it. Tang Jun is not only well-equipped, but also well-trained and very elite. But the number is very small. The Tang Dynasty only had about 500,000 in the whole country, and the Anxi Prefecture in the northwest had only about 70 to 80,000 soldiers. So how could it be possible that there were 200,000 in one battle? So I think there were only 30,000 people in the Tang army in the battle at that time.

The Abbasid Caliphate was lucky that they won the battle by the defection of the Tang ally. The might of the Tang Empire would have put the Abbasid to the sword if the traitor An Lushan didn't revolt.
God is great الله اكبر
Well what is more exhausting destroying two civilizations and fighting a tang or a revolt???? Haha equipment rarely be problem for Arabians at that time they would barely wear armors making them nimble and they are courages with bunch of best leaders among history I dare u say the opposite cause no one can conqure that much while being outnumbered and outdevoloped at every aspect :)

I am from China. During this war, a Tang Dynasty soldier named Du Huan was taken prisoner and met many Chinese papermakers, carpenters, and painters in Arabia, and here is my English translation based on ancient Chinese documents.
[Record of Chinese Tang Dynasty captives living in Arabia]
The name of the king of Arabia was Mamun, and he was born here.

Wrong, Christian empire which was Byzantium collapsed, and Zoroastrian empire which was Sassanid empire collapsed as well no hope for this to comeback that time, there was Omayad empire then came Abbassid empire and both are Islamic superpower of that time, so next must be Islamic to prevail. I had, but only recently. It might be less talked about because details about the battle are scarce, sources are conflicted, and it didn't result in much direct territorial changes.
No, they didin't, the Abbasids never extended that far, in fact the Tang and Abbadis quickly became allies afterwards. The current state of Tarim Basin was done by the Karakanid Turks who waged a jihad and took over the region then forcefully converted the locals to Islam.

Learn more history before making biased comments.

Actually this battle is very important for the history of Turks. It triggered many events
muslims ottomans not the Turks
It would be interesting if you could explain us more.
"muslims ottomans not the Turks"
Turkic people, not just people of modern day Turkey.
The British played old divide and conquer strategy; pit the Muslims against each other, destroyed the caliphate and walked off as the winner.
damn that Chinese music, playing with my emotions.. Anyone knows the name?
Writes in the description :)
One of the major reason of why the Chinese Tang Dynasty and Arabic empire were hostile towards each other was because the Arabs invaded the Persians which was allied with China, Tang and Persia had great relations. After the Persian empire was destroyed, the Persian prince fled to China for asylum.
Mamluks Ball no the four kings after prophet Mohamed dead are relatives and umywad and Abbasid were cousins too so maybe it is one of the reasons
Does not seem likely. The Muslim leaders hated each other even more than some foreign Chinese Dynasty.
Vitalis gotta love how Persia is a fellow civilization that was at least respected by the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire/Republic
Arabs Vs. Chinese

great video - chinese troops are pretty clearly Qin dynasty, not Tang (difference of about a millenia there), but good production as always. Shame theres no medieval chinese mods you could use instead for more accurate units.
Yep, unfortunately. :-(
Their is a mod on ancient China and middle East but it's for medieval 2 total war. I believe it was called asian empires mod. But it was in chinese language. The mod was based on the late ming dynasty and feature several eastern and steppe faction too
If the thumbnail can show a Tang era cataphract that would be cool though
Ming(1368-1644) is too late to depict Tang(7th century-10th century) anyway. Tang units are notable for crossbows/heavy bows(连弩/震天弓) and heavy blades (唐刀,陌刀). I assume you can find mods in games like mount and blade.
SAMAND33 What he mean was that the troops depicted in the video and even the thumbnail, are Qin era troops. The banners in the video themselves even have the character 秦 'Qin' instead of 唐 'Tang'
after the battle turks became muslim and served as a mercanery for the abbasids and after a century they took the whole control of the abbasids army. they invade persia and whole middle east and create a seljuk empire.

@Claude Speed then you are a racist scumbag. I'm a Muslim from Turkey. I love my Muslim brothers and sisters regardless of their race and skin colour.

Admittedly, I know very little on this topic, but I will look into that, thank you!

This war made many people muslim :D. Hi from Istanbul ^^
He was allowed to return to home in 761, he then got on board a boat in Red sea and went back to Guangzhou, China via Srilanka.
so interesting ... one day both side of history we will read i think
Tang dynasty was one of the greatest empires in China's history. But, actually, this war happened in the time that had civil strife. The emperor didn't even know when the war was happening because it was too far away from the capital city.
Please read Aksu battle ? It is interesting
This is just an inconsequential war. The leaders of the Tang Dynasty did not even know that such a war had taken place. What really changed the pattern of Central Asia was Anshi’s chaos
An Lushan is a Turk.
@@MrLi-fd4hs of course its "inconsequential", you guys lost lol losing war over territory that helped secure the Silk Road trade route was anything but "inconsequential".
@Communist iron fist lmao, no, absolutely not. The Chinese never ever fought in the middle east. And they only fought against arabs once, in talas.

If China always defeated Turks then how the fuck have they have been reduced into tributary state for Turks
just because this stupid channel deliberately tries to avoid showing many of our victories it still won't change the fact that Turks wouldn't even see China as a threat. The most China could do is siding with one claimant during a civil war to take Turks into Chinese lands.

It wouldn't have been possible to propagate the new culture without paper. That, and imprimery, were two of the most necessary elements for the Humanist movement.

I'm kinda old for games too, Rome I is during my college time so you could have a idea of my age. However I just can't get rid of total war, especially for the coming Three Kingdom total war
Yes, Total War is still up to standard after so long. I played Rome I during secondary school. Then I continued to Medieval 2 and many mods that comes with it(official and non official, chinese mods were using medieval 2 at that time), now after all the unstable mods engines, now we could finally get a Three Kingdom TW, which is dream come true. I never really enjoy Empire or Shogun 2 after medieval 2. The jump in the game system(i guess after Sega took over) didnt really excite me, also the later versions' physics seems a little weak to me too. Cavalries used to be really strong when charging.

Bize Türkiye'de öğretiyorlar. Araplarla birlikte kazandığımız savaş olarak biliyoruz. Maalesef Araplara Osmanlıya ihanet eden Mehmet Ali Paşa ve Şerif Hüseyin'den başka kim öğretiliyor ki?
According to Wikipedia
The vast majority of Western scholars generally believe that the number of Tang troops in this battle was between 20,000 and 30,000, of which two-thirds were Han people, and one-third of servants such as Ge Lulu and local indigenous troops.
The Arab army has 200,000 men.
I think this statement is more true
Because the Tang army at that time was like the US army now, and like the Israel Defense Forces now, it was very well equipped and very powerful.
For example
According to Chinese historical records, the ordinary infantrymen of the Tang Army at that time each had a spear, a horizontal knife, a short knife, a bow, a pot of arrows, iron helmets, bright light armor, chain mail, and leather army boots.
Please ,Aksu battle is very interesting , read it, please,
You are right
