- The Eastern Roman Empire was under constant Ottoman pressure ever since the new conquerors appeared in the Anatolia. Although the Ottomans tried to take Constantinople on a number of occasions, they had to lift the siege of the city due to the Crusades of Varna and Nicopolis, the Timurid Invasion and the battle of Ankara, and the Interregnum period that happened after their Sultan Bayezid was taken hostage by Timur. However, after the victories at the battles of Varna (1444) and 2nd Kosovo (1448) against the crusaders of Wladyslaw III and John Hunyadi, the road to Constantinople was open and the new sultan Mehmed II set his sight on the city of the Roman emperors...

If you looked at the maps of the time, the conquest of Constantinople was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Since the 1380s they were surrounded on all sides by hundreds of kilometres of Ottoman territory. It was just a matter of when, and it's surprising they managed to hold out that long.
After 1204 it was obvious whoever wanted could take Constantinople from the Byzantine Greeks. Even if they "took it back" In 1262 it was vulnerable but even so they resisted heroically numerous times until they fell
Useless empire anyway. Only survived in stone age era lolol.

It survived 1000 years, with so much prosperity in its peak with all ancient knowledges and inheritance of greatest civilizations of Hebrews, Greeks and Romans also little bit of ancient Levant, ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, North Africa, etc and the earliest well developed monarchial state of feudal middle age Europe. Also with little bit of proto capitalism.
Without inheriting Byzantine's governance none of your glorious Ottoman Empire would be glorious and could never function well and die out in 100 years just like timurid empire. Niether would ancient knowledges that Byzantines(Eastern Roman Empire) had inherited from imperial Roman Empire as rightful continuum of imperial Roman Empire, which sparked Renaissance would be safe and available to mediaeval Europeans and to us so there would be no scientific revolution.
@@JohnWick_897The Ottomans started in the age of swords and survived up until the age of machine guns. The descendants of the Byzantine’s are now Turkish and the Ottomans secured Constantinople in Turkish hands until present day. This story is not true according to prominent Turkish historians.
It was the final end of the Roman Empire. Founded in the second century. One of the most powerful nations ever known. It saw many other states come and go. The Ssasavids, The Han Dynasty, The Mongols, The Golden Horde, Francia, The HRE and finally the ones that would end them once and for all, The Ottoman Empire.
That’s really not something to be proud of. I would have preferred the Roman Empire to still have been around than have the Turks move in. The Byzantine Empire was soooooooooooooooo much better in every topic you can think of. Starting with the culture.

Thank you very much, good sir! :-)
I absolutely agree with you. I never get bored while watching these.
+Risora BF happy to hear that. :-)

I very very recommend for you to read the Fall of Constantinople from the Islamic perspective. It all started from the prophet Mohammad's prophesize 800 years earlier. He said that the best city in the world (at the time) will be open to the Moslem.
Some of the hadits:
“Whilst we were around the Prophet (saw) writing he was asked, ‘Which of the two cities will be opened first, Constantinople or Rome?‘ He (the Prophet Muhammad) answered, ‘The city of Heraclius (Constantinople) will be opened first!'”
"Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will the leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!"
Even the reason and the circumstanses of why Prophet said that are very interesting.

Thanks a lot, this helped in my history project.
After Byzantine forces were completely obliterated, Mehmet came up to the gates and recognized the emperor's corpse due to his clothing.
Instead of being left there to rot, his body was buried under a tree, and on his grave was a stone that was oftenly covered in oil and set ablaze.

Constantine was a badass ,but yeah the Roman empire was coming to an end no matter what.
Well, to be honest, Constantine XI did a great job protecting the city after so many attacks. It was inevitable when it will fall, but he didn't give up and fought until the end, even with only one ally. Truly a brave man.

More fitting end to Rome than Odoacer, having entered Ravenna, not finding the all-powerful Emperor of the civilized world, two Consuls protecting the Republic, or a King leading his people into prosperity, but a weak and frightened boy unable to protect himself or the people he nominally ruled.
Quite foolish of him to fight for the sake of a tiny land. He could've pray to jesus or something..

I found out about Skanderbeg and Ottoman early conquests through this channel. Skanderbeg quickly became my favorite historical figure from the Balkans. Keep up with the great content!
The history of hero that was forgotten.. Proud to be Albanian.. You can find for Scanderberg in youtube so many videos.
HAHAHA Cengis Khan was a hero and tmore then his army was Islamic people hahaha please dont comment stupid things.
If skanderbeg saw that todays albanians are 50% muslim he would be so sad
goran stojanovic did you know that in serbia there is a discussion about the Karageorgevic family? Some scholars claim they are Albanians. And No, they not albanian scholars, they're Serbs.
About the history books, Albanian history is written by foreign scholars, while the Srbian is written by ultranationalist serbs, or chetniks.
There are more churches then mosques in Albania......
If only you have same amount of subscribers as Logan Paul, youtube would be better place.

Fun fact: Mehmed ii is still 21 at 1453 :)
Yeah, probably should have mentioned that.
At 21 Mehmed was conquering the “City of the World’s Desire”. At 21 I was sitting like a useless duck.
Incendiary Bullet Also, he knew at least 7 languages. He was an engineer and designed the huge cannon called ŞAHİ that broke down the walls of Constantinople.
Incendiary Bullet Yeah. Tell me about it.:D Because of this conquerer fella, turkish youth is under constant pressure of achieving marvelous stuff at a young age. I mean there are even popular songs about it, saying: "You are at the age of Mehmed the Conquerer when he conquered Istanbul". I mean why are you shaming me for not knowing 7 languages, Advanced Politics and Advanced warfare at the age of 21. Obviously he is the one with the issues; I am not.:D
