Saw them in '75, when it was Lemmy, Larry Wallis and the drummer before Phil. It was at Maidstone College of Technology which I was a student. No one had heard of them and there were only a handful of people in the audience. I only went because I was a fan of the Pink Fairies of which Larry Wallis was a brief member. Anyway, they were deafening and by the end of the gig only me and my mate Chris were left and that was only because we had another hour to kill before our pre booked taxi arrived. After the gig me and Chris were sitting at the bar, our ears were fucking ringing. I got a slap on the back, looked around and it was Lemmy, he said to us, I owe you lads a drink, I said what for and he said for staying to the fucking end. So he bought us a beer each and ordered himself a quadruple jack and coke. He offered us a cigarette each and we all lit up at the bar ( you could do that in them days) we talked about the band and he said he thought the drummer was shit and he wasn't sure about Larry and so on. He was a real gent and we all chatted the shit for an hour then left in our taxi. and I never thought another thing about it. Fast forward ten years, 1985, I was in the St Moritz Club in Wardour street after watching Angel Witch across the road at the Marquee Club. Im buying a drink and across the bar I see Lemmy, he caught my eye and then came over to me and said ' Maidstone, 1975, I never forget a face, you owe me a fucking drink', On my mother's life that's a true story.
I suppose it's a matter of personal taste, but I saw the original line-up several times and I also saw the later, Wurzel, version. There was no contest for me. The original line-up was literally phenomenal. Much cleverer musically and much more presence.
Saw them at King George’s Hall Blackburn. 7th November 1980 some three months after this gig on the Ace Up Your Sleeve Tour. I began my devotion there. RIP lads.
My first ever gig was 1979 at the age of 15, the Bomber tour support Saxon at Sheffield City Hall. Changed my life forever, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen them after that. I have two of Lemmy’s plectrums, one from Rock City and one from the last tour before his death at Manchester Apollo. Now 59 I still listen to Motörhead every day and will till I throw a double six. There was nothing like them and there never ever will be again, massively underrated musicians and their music will live on forever! No disrespect to other members but this is without doubt the best lineup, no question. Motörhead forever! RIP 🤘
Can confirm! I was a punk back then and we considered Motörhead more of a punk band than a heavy metal group. Very very different then Maiden, Deep Purple or Rainbow 😅
Lemmy said that they had more in common with The Damned than with Judas Priest, so he clearly identified with punk. Hence their cover of „God save the queen“ too

Best band ever. Saw them live aged 16 with this line up. Better than punk and metal, this music inspired generations and even now, when I play my daughters Motorhead they're still amazed and shocked that this CD is from, say, 1978, 1979, 1982. This was the classic line up, but I think Phil, Lemmy and Mikkey were pretty amazing too!
What genre is Motorhead exactly? Heavy rock and roll? It's neither punk nor metal really. I once borrowed a Motorhead CD from a friend but I never gave it a second listen, it didn't really grab me at all. Lemmy was undoubtedly a great character/personality though.
@@1980extremeG Listen with some attention - you will hear elements of punk in many songs )RAMONES (tribute to Ramones), Sacrifice ( the riffs in the refrain) , sex and death (length of the song). Lemmy never hided his admiration for Ramones. Motorhead never really played those typical heavy metal riffs, so I'd say heavy, fast hard rock with punk elements. Still, I cant figure out any other band, with exception of Tank that played same style. Tank was a damn good band too!
@@delaBoujardiere Yeah fair points, they are punk influenced and a crossover band. agreed, the last real Motorhead concert was in 1982.
Lucky guy, did you catch Saxon & Tygers, Budgie & Ozzy around this time too? That period of time was wonderful, picked up all those records here in Canada as British imports as soon as they were released, I'm now an old &%$# of 62, miss the great music and hunting down lp's. Cheers.
@@robertzemko6590 Good to hear, never saw the Tygers of Pan Tang, did catch Saxon though, along with the original Paul Di'ano Maiden, I was a punk so it was mainly bands like Sex Pistols, Damned, Buzzcocks that I saw a lot of. Motorhead were a regular venue everytime they came to town.
@@RSR423 I was a fan of the original Maiden, Killers was and still is my favorite Maiden lp. Saxon released 2 great lp's in 1980 - Wheel Of Steel and Strong Arm Of The Law, I980 was an incredible year for heavy metal music.
Headbanging, one of the daftest painful fads of all time. Great gig, saw em on the same tour only at Leicester De Montfort.
These legends have past...
Heaven must be Thunderous!

Excuse que aime MOTHOH
Metropolis is genius. What a band !
Fast Eddie's tone is absolutely savage-but tempered with his bluesy style. RIP classic lineup.
merci pour la video vue en concert 19 fevrier 1980 a grenoble france concert magnifique+ ticket signée par le groupe vive le rock
The most best band in the Universum, Motörhead🤘
Mr. Fast Eddie Clarke R.I.P
The first gig I ever went too was Motörhead on the Bomber Tour at Bracknell sports centre. I can remember every single moment even now
Thank you for some of the most beautiful music in the world it will never be the same rest in peace
One of my biggest regrets in life will always be not getting to see the original classic lineup of Motorhead in their prime. Got to see the final lineup several times, but aside from Lemmy being Lemmy, & with the deepest respect to both, Mikkey Dee was no Phil Taylor & Phil Campbell was no Fast Eddie Clarke either. Excellent video 🤟
That was the real Motorhead. I had that album when it was brand new 💪💥🎸
MOTORHEAD, the unique of a kind!! REST IN POWER!!
pfffftttttt...theysuck

One of the magic things of Eddie is,cause his guitar playing style,he didnt need a rhythm guitar in solos...
This was the ultimate motorhead line up.Thanks for uploading.

Saw them open for ozzy in 80-1? Was killer loud band, glad I got to see orig motorhead..my ears rang for like 2 days....
What a beautiful, charismatic chaos. Eddie is completely lost on the first solo, and that's cool.
It´s Rock´nRoll🍻🙏
Saw them Live in Sweden 27 Nov 1981 for the first time and they stayed in my Heart forever after that and always will. R.I.P.💔
From Sweden.🤘☮
Step Down!! Too rare!!! THANX for upload !
This is the same year I saw them...possibly 81 on a short visit they made to Columbus, OH. Not sure why they were playing at a small local bar on High Street...but they were. I had not heard of them at that time...but was set back a little at hearing their new original sound. They were on a small stage (12 x 15 at most) rockin it. Cool!
