If you remember the US attacked the Zimbabwe financial system and caused hyperinflation, so I can see how they would prefer the Yuan. The big selling point is it is not controlled by the US.

The Yuan is one of the few currencies to have appreciated vs the USD over the past 20 years. The US still criticizes it for being artificially put down, meaning they think it should be worth more. However China's financial system is not as solid as the US and Europe and the Yuan will continuously gain more weight as a reserve currency for the years to come. You know what is not a good currency? The Indian rupee which lost almost half its value vs the Yuan in the past 20 years.
Yes, Yuan should be better in position where they are but it benefits china to lay it low. US can't do much but support another currency except Euro or dollar. Will they? Might not and will face the thing but seems like they can either choose India or Russia or Brazil lest choose best as they are developing in developing countries.
the yuan is unstable and always devaluating to sell their products abroad ..To be a reserve currency the money should be acceptable and strong even in times of wars.and recessions ..so many times the yuan suffered devaluations and unrealuable in times of crisis
The yuan is worthless. If they open up their financial system, the yuan would drop in value by 5x overnight. Everyone in China will sell their apartments and buy real estate in the U.S. The real estate sector will collapse and the prices will fall 10x. There is a reason why China has to keep their financial system closed and has to stop people from moving their money to the west. Everyone with a little bit of money in China wants to change it into the U.S. dollar and move it out of the country. Nobody outside of China wants the Yuan because it's worthless outside of China. Garbage toilet paper currency.

Point of correction.....im 31 years old and I have lived in Zimbabwe for as long as I can recall, but we never used the yuan. The economic system still uses the US$ and complements the shortage of the dollar using the local currency...NOT YUAN.

The main reason the US dollar is the primary reserve currency is because the US imports far more than it exports and pays for those imports with dollars. That's how the dollar became the main currency in a legitimate manner.

Today it's not about return ON capital. Today it is about return OF capital.
In this video there was discussion about the need for currency to be stable but no discussion about how currencies are backed. It should be obvious that currency needs more than just trust and faith in government to back them.. China and Russia have been encouraging their citizens to own gold. Both countries have been adding to their gold reserves. The US has not allowed Ft Knox to be audited for 60 years. These are all factors that should be considered when talking about the future of the world's reserve currency.

As an investor, I'd stay well away from the yuan. They may both be running the money printers like crazy, but at least the greenback is based on a transparent financial system.

Yuan does not threaten a Dollar in anyway. The current sphere of Yuan is still small compared to a Dollar.
Uganda still uses dollar as a reserve currency and only uses Yuan when buying items from China.
Good report, but you forget to take into account China's vast (natural) resources at home and abroad, their vast manufacturing capacity and accompanying infrastructure. Add that to their massive investments in renewable energy and them being a mayor food exporter and you get a pretty powerful position in my opinion. China will just bully everyone to use the currency of their choice for trading with them. So yeah, the Yuan poses a real threath to the US Dollar, and it's starting to show..!
Ah yes, investments in renewable energy, like that EV company that hoodwinked the CCP and reaped the rewards of the Government's money, only to declare "bankruptcy", and the shareholders leaving wealthy. I wonder if the renewable energy investments will finally stop their rolling blackouts due to their coal shortage and poorly managed electricity companies that are going under due to poorly made policies.
