As a fellow Congolese, I am glad you are sharing this info. Thank you for bringing up the sad reality that many Congolese children are living. This country is very rich in minerals,(gold, coltan, diamond, etc...)it was explored by Belgium and other people now while the local people remain poor.
no excuses, look at Ukraine, people are literally fighting an empire on their own. Only women were allowed out of the country. How long must Congo suffer because the men there won't do what's NECESSARY!?!? Look at Rwanda, Paul Kagame was a rebel leader, he took control by force, kicked the French out and it is now a success story. That's how you win your freedom, it isn't given to you, it is EARNED by BLOOD!!
The lack of a conversation around the cradle to grave impact of EV isn’t just infuriating. It’s also a sign that the real reason behind this push isn’t benevolent and is mostly likely a mechanism to increase control by completely centralizing travel.
The Centralizing Travel (really human mobility) is the CENTRAL thrust of the green revolution. Stupid people here in California US do not even think much at all beyond what they are told. Let alone this nonsense of disbanding sales of gas cars by 2030. What do they think will happen once everyone is forced to rely on electricity. We already don't have enough on a hot summer week, now they want to go green its so obvious what the plan is.
Completely centralizing travel by encouraging everyone to buy their own e-car instead of bus/bike? Cars that can be recharged by fuel from a variety of sources, hydro-electric or nuclear or trickle charge solar, rather than relying on a handful of big oil companies?
@@lukebryan1848 You make good points, but how many sources of 110 or 220V electricity does the average American have in their house or apartment block? Probably one power company. I don't buy into the idea that EVs are being used to control travel, but cobalt mining doesn't seem cleaner than the oil industry, and EVs aren't the environmental panacea they are presented to be. That cleaner future, I think, is still a long ways down the road.

@Edwin Maywa where does he get it then? GLENCORE still operates in the Congo. Luckily the DRC has decided to start taking a stand. They have halted all production of these minerals until renegotiations are made. The old president was a true coward who fed his pockets at the expense of his people but no more. @@MsSilkyJuneja the last thing I trust is mainstream media and randoms on social media. There are plenty of sources saying this issue is way overblown. Then there are the illegally and family operated ones, because people are poor and want find ways to make money. Big companies don't source from them. That's the Congo point. The EV point is utter BS. Gas cars use similar amounts of rare earths. The cheaper EVs all have 0 cobalt because they're LFP. Blaming the EV industry for poor child labor laws in a country? That is good reporting? It is not like all EVs use cobalt nor that poor labor laws effect cobalt only. Modern mining methods could be used. What is happening is not due to EVs but a poor government that took money from China which went to a corrupt government which than exploited the citizens. This is far from being unique to EVs and existed way before EVs.

Even though the name did not say it, they were all part of / under the control of / the Soviet Union. The largest country in this was Russia, which at that time, was communist. This woman is a badass. I agree with her on some topics and disagree (sometimes strongly) on other topics. Either way, she is able to take a position and defend it.
By defending it, do you mean she gave possible solutions, because I didn't hear one. While a tragic story, it's only one side. What of what governments can do, what about passing laws and hiring overseers at decent wages? Just sayin'.
"Either way, she is able to take a position and defend it"!? Not in this video! This video is so replete with falsehoods that it is painful to watch. The list of misinformation presented is so long that it would take a small book to refute, but let me point to a least one salient example where the narrator asks "...do you know what these batteries are made of? Rare metals like lithium and cobalt." False. Lithium is not a rate metal. It is one of the most abundant elements found on earth. Further, new techniques for mining lithium have recently been developed and are now rapidly being deployed that are extremely environmentally responsible. Cobalt, on the other hand, actually is, as the narrator claims, a rare metal that is obtained in an exploitive way. But it is also rapidly being replaced in modern battery chemistry. Newer EV batteries don't use cobalt. Finally, and most importantly, batteries are recyclable and it is estimated that within 5 years 95% of the metals within batteries will be reused. In contrast, how much of the petrol that gets burned in an internal combustion engine vehicle will be recycled in 5 years? None. Contrary to what is claimed in this video, EVs do not run on dirty energy and the blood of children and it is the oil and gas industry, and not EVs, that is the driver of human rights abuse.
Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the world. It’s shocking to see child poverty exploited in this way and still it goes on, the least they could do is pay them a decent amount of money and some tools to do the job. From UK

This actually makes a lot of sense
Completely centralizing travel by encouraging everyone to buy their own e-car instead of bus/bike? Cars that can be recharged by fuel from a variety of sources, hydro-electric or nuclear or trickle charge solar, rather than relying on a handful of big oil companies?

Electric cars probably are the future. But tell us the real costs to the world.
This is trying to bring down pollution by cutting down on the human population.
They are the future. But ethical sourcing needs to be taken in priority.
Many get it my brother. I think most people are seduced by advertising and doctored articles filling their heads with lies.. they'll slowly wake up to the truth when they discover that their ev is a cheap piece pf plastic that is too expensive to repair. They're not built to last 20-30 years like our low maintenance internal combustion engines
There are many fools repeating slogans like "ev is the future "'
They are the same ones that don't know that alloy wheels damage their bikes in the long run. They don't know that tyre spokes aree used in all mountain bikes and high end harleys because spokes help in load distribution. Fools are seduced by addvertisement/slogans . They just go around repeating slogans like mindless robots and they lack a certain ability to study a subject to find truth
What you fail to mention is that they are making great improvements with lithium batteries just look up solid-state metal lithium batteries they are 10 times better than what we have now and also hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are the future and Japan is already producing one

It is not about "EV", it is about the exploitation of the powerless by the powerful -- the inhumane activities which have been going on for centuries. World governments need to put laws into place about child labor. This has been true for too long.
Yeah, but its also about people's over expectation of luxury.
American's and Europeans want air conditioned, 500-1000 BHP EVs... to become environment friendly???
Truth is EVs are not supposed to be affordable, companies like Tesla are loss making companies who barely make it by selling EV credits (yeah, US, UK gov runs EV credit schemes).

Hats off to this channel- I’m your fan now
Same here.
It's dificult to find a real reporter these days.
Watch her video exposing China lab leak theory.
I wouldn't say it was professional at all.
It started well and is informative and correct in questioning this version/monopolization of the "green revolution" and pretend care for the environment, but the "report" instantly turned into a China hit-piece and she couldn't repeat "blood cobalt and China" enough.
“Electric vehicles have miles to go before they can proclaim to be clean” well said!
@Brisco Darling You're still driving around with a tank filled with flammable liquid anyway aren't you? Each cell in the batteries of EVs are fused and the battery itself is potted in resin and built like a tank so your points are moot.
@Brisco Darling Not to mention many areas of the US sole electrical source is either from coal or natural gas power plants. A coal-fired car wouldn't ever sound appealing, but it is the reality.
@Brisco Darling Sure they are toxic but normal people never interact with it. Way more people die from air pollution than battery poisons. Also fossil fuel makes climate change worse so even more deaths in the future.
Only cheap batteries spontaneously combust, cars don't. Also battery last more than 10 years. You dont need heated garage for ev.
These idiots know nothing but misinformation.
@@tom0516 Don't know why these idiots keep brining about coal power plants. Using a coal power plant to power ev is still way better than every car using fossil fuels. Ev are very efficient and electricity distribution loss is very less.
Right now electric is a lot cleaner than the old petrol car or bike no carbon emissions battery is easier to produce than petrol thats true. Lik in small scale like in electric scooter vs petrol scooter.. city drive I choose electric but for a long distance trip I choose the petrol ones. But soom Ice will be face out and lets welcome the electric era..
The problem here isn’t EV’s or using them. It’s the ineffective laws and government that can’t put a stop to these dirty companies exploiting children. If it wasn’t this resource,it’ll just be another resource that they’d be using to exploit.
How would you get cheaper stuff then?
Did you perhaps also consider that it is the American Corporations backed by the US military that creates these "ineffective governments and laws"?
Slavery is the only Green energy
Ev 's and what or where makes electricity? Yes they suck, and without charging they can say how far you can travel ?? if there are not enough charging stations, and the damage done by the batteries to the climate if that's an issue to the future !!!!!!
