- THE BEAUTY WITHIN by Nwabisa Mvunelo from Holy Cross Education Centre in Mthatha Education District. A student film from the 2016 Inter-School Short Film Competition and Festival in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. There were 18 short films were made with schools for the 2016 Competition.
High School Learners write and pitch their story ideas as short film screenplays. The most promising scripts are selection to go into production as part of the competition. Writers of the selected screenplays get to direct their own films with a team of learners from their school fill the crew roles of producer, camera, lighting, sound, boom swinging, art department, script and continuity, and clapper board operator. The student crews receive introductory training and support from a mentor film crew as they make their film. All actors are from the school, all scenes are created on the school premises, props are sourced by the learners, scenes plotted and rehearsed by the learners, and the film is shot in a single day at the school. The School films are a mix of English, Xhosa and Afrikaans.

Just reminded me of my self..guys body shaming is the worst guys. The things we go through as far people being made to feel less of a human just because of their body types and the way they dress .This thing leads to depression and suicide.

This is definitely not Africa😒. Maybe it happens in Primary school or Junior high school I don't know. But nothing like this happens here in my country.Some men prefer round figures to skinny figures🤔.So being plump is not a problem🙄🙄. After all,our African mothers are not skinny and they look amazing😏
That is wonderful if it is your experience! Some people have really resonated with the message of the film. It was made at a high school in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, and written by the learners.
It’s highly misleading to speak for an entire continent based on your experience! It diminishes and dismisses the experiences of many.
