    Loving your videos. I have a downhill bike and don't think I am using the suspension the best I could be. Can you do a video on how to set up your suspension for different terrain? For example, if you have too much/little rebound going down rough terrain, how will that effect the bike and you riding. How can you tell if you have set it up wrong. Any tips on suspension set up for going over roots, jumps, rough terrain etc. Thanks

    I`ve tryed all the think mentioned by you Neil, and by others too, seen every video, i do set my sag corectly, but unfortunately no one says that the sag should be less for and aggresive rider and more for a slowly rider or trail rider. I usually keep the 30%sag when going on trail and 25% when downhill . The forks are plush nowdays, but very stiff if sagged 20%.

  • @redtobertshateshandles

    I always load up the forks and see how much travel is used. I'm not into huge jumps so I like a compliant action for all the small bumps. The bump stop can do for the occasional bigger jumps.

    You don't mention to equalize the pressure every ~50 psi change in pressure, as the Fox manual says.
    Anyway I'm having trouble with the rear shock because my correct sag appears to be at max pressure, but when I remove the pump I always loose about 20 psi...
    I might need a beefier rear suspension

    On shapeshifter tech should you set your sag in XC or DH mode? Or does it not really matter?

    • @tannerhickman5986
      @tannerhickman5986 7 років тому

      I would say that the DH setting would be best because it is using all 160mm of the travel instead of around 130mm. Also the shape shifter on the Canyon Strive makes the shock during XC mode stiffer. To set sag the shock should be fully extended until you set the sag. I am not certain about this but thats what I would do.

    • @dos.1277
      @dos.1277 7 років тому +3

      What he meant by bouncing is when you get off, don't push into the bike to assist yourself off, as this will compress the shock further.

    • @ThunderStruckMTB
      @ThunderStruckMTB 7 років тому

      Which is what he did (after not pushing the o-ring up all the way just before dismounting)

    • @ryanemery3139
      @ryanemery3139 6 років тому +1

      No no, he meant bouncing, as in adding downward momentum into the bike to increase sag with momentum + gravity. You just want to isolate gravity of your own weight, without any additional downward forces. He jumps off the back end of the bike allowing the spring to recoil back into decompressed position. This won't affect his sag measurement.

    Trying to set up, rockshox recommends about 135psi but when I do that it is rock hard (like

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  4 роки тому +1

      Interesting one Ricardo! It might be equalising the pressure in the positive and negative chambers, but that shouldn't mean it looses pressure. It could just be that you've got a leaky air can by the seals or something!

    #askgmbn When I'm pumping up my rear shock, I get it to the pressure I want, but when I disconnect the hose, the shock loses about 20psi from a short little "psst" as the air leaks out of the connection. Is there a trick to not losing the pressure or should I just pump it up about 20psi too high and expect it to lose the pressure when I disconnect?

    • @degaboss
      @degaboss 6 років тому +1

      a little late but to my knoledge the "psst" that you are hearing while discconecting the pump is the air pressure that is held on the hose of the pump, you are not losing air pressure on your shock or fork, so you dont have to pump your shock 20 psi higher!

    is 150 travel on front and 140 travel on rear suitable for doing jumps as I did a run at Cannock the other day and I'm sure my rear shock bottomed out and as there is no o ring I can't be sure

      It really depends in the size of the jumps and your technique/skill level. Most bikes are safe to jump and its sounds like you have a solid AM bike so i would say yes.

      Tanner Hickman jumps aren't too big around Cannock but im sure I heard it bottom out, might just take it to local bike shop and get it serviced as it does make a slight noise when bike is being used , bike is a lapierre zesty 414 😀

    How much air will you loose when you dont have that smart valve on your pump?

    What's the difference between setting the sag on the fork and adjusting the knob for compression? Can't you just fine tune the travel with the knob instead of using a shock pump to put more pressure in?

    Do i buy a new hard tail or a used full suspension? I am only 14 so money is quite a big factor.

      lewiswebstermtb I just bought a used full suspension enduro bike for £450 I'm 13 so yeah second hand bikes are cheaper and usually only have cosmetic wear so you would get a great bike for cheap
