      GX's are the fleet pov pack units. They work on mine sites etc. The Patrol doesn't offer a cheap and nasty version. A Sahara is north of $120K so that's $50K of fuel and accessories you can spend on the Patrol!

      It should be that way. A proper Land Cruiser doesn't need all the luxury. It is a very good off road vehicle, that can withstand whatever you throw at it.

    The current Patrol looks a lot better than the one reviewed here. There was a change to the front bumper, headlights and taillights back in 2014. I am not surprised the changes were not released in Australia because there has been low demand there on this vehicle due to the fact that Nissan does not built Y62s with diesel engines.
    That being said I am a Y62 2015 Patrol owner and I absolutely love the car. Entry level here however is not as expensive as that one but is pretty much devoid of any features.

  • @adu919
    @adu919 8 років тому +28

    Wait. That Patrol is the outdated one. The Patrol has gone a major facelift in 2014 and it looks much better than that.
    -Abu Dhabi, Patrols and LCs roll a lot here and Patrol is the undisputed king in both driving and luxury.

    Have to laugh at the comments on diesels being a must off road or for touring, do some research people, modern diesels are more complicated and less reliable than modern petrols.
    There's also plenty of y62s being used to travel every corner of the country with no problems at all.
    it's also fantastic in real off road conditions, take the word of people that actually use them in these conditions and have done for years now.

      +Trav Giles AGreed mate, lot of people just bull shit around stating LC got Diesel. Does it really matter ? A Patrol Y61 3 Litre Diesel is a better buy than LC for half its price.

      I can’t believe no one ever comment how silly this is.
      I know it is 7 years later but let’s be honest if you go big hills, tight corners, big mid holes, shit spots USUALLY a good diesel works without effort
      Let’s just all love good times and a car has a choice and print point and that’s the main reason

  • @cwehbe

    I know it's not the same, but I own the luxury versions of both in the U.S. I have an Infiniti QX56 and a Land Cruiser 200. I got both used since I have 5 kids and my wife and I decided against a minivan. I take both off road about 5 times a month. We love to go on road trips and short weekends in north California, Oregon, and Washington. So, I had gotten the LC 1 year before the QX, and I thought it was the greatest off road/expedition vehicle ever... Until the QX came into my life! The independent suspension on all 4 corners is really good OFF ROAD! Believe me guys, there is a reason most new military off road vehicles are priding themselves on off independent suspension... It's good, really good. The other plus is that the QX is wider by about 3 inches which really feels nice inside. It's also longer which is perfect when you end up having to sleep inside the vehicle with the seats folded on a foam pad because of a bad thunderstorm and winds that could turn a tent into a parachute! The LC wouldn't have fit me in the back unless I fold over! Here in the U.S. we don't get a diesel SUV, so we don't get an advantage of one over the other. I think both vehicles are great, and would be very happy with either with a little more happiness with the QX which is a Patrol without the blanked out switches! BTW those switches that are blanked are all full in the Infiniti QX, they are for heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel...

    • @kiflizen
      @kiflizen 8 років тому +7

      That is not a fair comparison. You said luxury version, the luxury version of LC200 and counterpart of Infiniti QX56 is the LEXUS LX570. By the way we have the 2016 LC200 and I have no complaints. Sure the luxurious and more expensive brands of Toyota (LEXUS) and Nissan (Infiniti) should be better!

    Toyota fans failed to realise Nissan Patrol in this video is also a low range model as is the Toyota Land Cruiser. Both high range spec models are excellent reliable engine but honestly the Patrol is far superior in its engine, technology, speed and luxury. It rips the Land Cruiser. In Dubai the rich drive and prefer the Patrol. Most people in the West can't afford to run both these cars as they suck fuel due to their big engines. Most go for SUVs under 3litre engine sizes.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 8 років тому +4

      +Jimbob Toyota take advantage of the vehicle's reputation, R&D/Material costs don't justify a 63k base model price for a two door trayless ute.
      They're a vehicle targeted to a market that has barely been touched, they can charge whatever they want.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 8 років тому +3

      +Shaanan Birleson I'm certainly not, I understand the true value of what an item is worth
      and with the Land Cruiser you've always had a relatively shitty
      price/features/performance ratio.
      Look at the new Ford Ranger WildTrak, wonderfully built vehicle with a comprehensive technology package and it costs $3K more than a NEW BASE MODEL TWO DOOR LAND CRUISER that's reminiscent of the 80's..

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 8 років тому +1

      +Shaanan Birleson I hope you're joking.. It's medium-sized, the engine has 3 cylinders less, a 1.3L capacity difference than the 4.5L TD and makes MORE TORQUE than your beloved baseline Landcruiser and is better on fuel..
      Hills? I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.. Sand? Well.. yeah with the tyres it comes with but it isn't any less capable if both drivers have the same skill levels.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 8 років тому

      +Shaanan Birleson Right, well it isn't unexpected the stock tyre dimensions are kinda narrow. I've seen how easy they sink in. With the savings remaining from not buying a land cruiser 200 you could just upgrade tyres etc.. Ranger Wildtrak is like.. 62,000 brand new while a new baseline Land cruiser GX is like 84,000 which is the one on this video.
      If you compare specifically what you get for your money regarding the LC/Rangers with at least 5 seats, the wildtrak offers so much more for the money. For $20,000 less you sacrifice a tiny bit of offroad-worthiness but end up with a much nicer vehicle to be in.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 8 років тому +3

      Will you REALLY be better off? Justify your comments lol
      And yes I've seen the specs.. Higher fuel consumption, lower torque, doesn't come with a tray and only the essentials FOR 74K.
      I'm finding it hard to communicate to you that for thousands less, the ranger comes with EVERYTHING. If you want a better comparison, the baseline LC four-door ute is 74K right? Well the baseline four-door ranger is 42k. It makes no economical sense.

  • @Pr0crustesify
    @Pr0crustesify 8 років тому +20

    Hey guys!! I've just read through the comment section and I have to say it's pretty awful, I am a LandCruiser fan and the car is overpriced but those of you with any amount of schooling in economics under the belt will know the price is determined by the market mechanism NOT Toyota trying to milk old ladies! So as soon as they become less popular the price will fall. Both of these are great cars and I have no problem with the Patrol winning in the video, we are in a time in history where comfort and buttons mean a lot, but when it comes to handing over the cash I will choose the Cruiser and I have no problem if someone else chooses the Patrol, it is your choice. Lets not fight about these things and rather enjoy them together.

    I was set on a VX 200 series, drove back to back and there is simply no comparison. People need to wake up to the Toyota tax which is being placed on everyone. The V8 in the Patrol eats the Toyota alive. I have towed with both and with a 1.5T camper, the Patrol is only marginally more thirsty. Managed to pick up a MY15 series 2 Y62 Ti for 64K, brand spanka, bargain. The 200 Series is feeling very outdated and the seven seat configuration set up is shit house. For all those who have not driven one, Patrol that is, just test it and you will see.
    CarAdvice, it would be good to see a proper off road test and tow test and perhaps compare say comparative features VS price as i think the VX in a cruiser would be about 96K which really throws sand in Tojos face.

    • @17003719

      Wogs Put on some real weight, a 6 cylinder commodore will pull 1.5Tonne. Try 3.5 Tonne or more, it's a different world that would make a Y62 scream That why I didn''t buy a Nissan. If it had a Cummins 5 or 6 litre, I would of bought the Nissan
      Then that would be been a real world comparison, not the bullshit from Not so Good Car Advice

  • @RobertKunga
    @RobertKunga 8 років тому +18

    The Nissan has really bad fuel consumption and a small, single tank. That aside, I really have to agree with these chaps. It surprisingly is pretty good value for money in that segment and is incredibly capable off road. Had an opportunity to bash one around in my Home Country of Kenya (where roads are optional 😁) and it genuinely blew my mind. My only concern was "Range anxiety". You'd have to strap on some Jerricans for a long lazy weekend cruise to the middle of nowhere.

    • @alistairwhite2906
      @alistairwhite2906 8 років тому +2

      Mine has a 150L sub tank so 300L of fuel on board. Towing 2.5T it gets over 1000km per tank at 110km/h. Not towing, it's heading towards 1500km. Same or better range than a Cruiser........

    • @JackFN_VR64

    Things would be great if Nissan built the Patrol in a diesel version. The land cruiser has no competition here in Australia, and Toyota know it. So they charge a lot more than it's really worth. But as said in the review Nissan's main target with the Patrol is the oil rich arab countries where petrol is ridiculously cheap.

    • @aleckvill821

      Im a cruiser person, but Nissan really need that Cummins diesel, It must be so embarrasing for Nissan Australia, If I could of got a 4 or 5 litre cummins, I definately would of considered the Nissan, I pull a 3.5 tonne Van and no bullshit either that or the Toyota 4.5DTT would pull it and stop it safely

    • @s1rx79

      You pair are lame AF. When did fuel economy owning diesels & being scrooge tight old farts become the Aussie way? besides real world testing has proved touring & towing the y62 is very close to the 1VD-DUD & yet overall $27000 cheaper.

    • @dumdumbrown4225
      @dumdumbrown4225 4 роки тому

      Adam Moore - petrol’s nearly the same price in the UAE & Oz, dummy - When it comes to ownership costs, one’d have to run that V8 ‘Trol tens of thousands of kilometres before it even cost as much as that ‘Cruiser 😄 plus, diesel f***s up during snowstorm winters in the Victorian alps or the Snowy mountains - petrol doesn’t. I’m from NSW, however I’ll say what they say in the UAE - where V8 ‘Trols are everywhere - “...sure - take your Landcruisers, but have one Patrol to stay safe!”

  • @cwizardS
    @cwizardS 8 років тому +22

    great review!

  • @dumdumbrown4225
    @dumdumbrown4225 8 років тому +1

    Good comparison based on the price range / model level.
    Sure ... in Oz and NZ, diesels are more easily fuelled and the range helps - there aren't just as many petrol stations in our deserts as there are in the UAE or Russia.
    If people wanted diesel off roaders, then the cheaper option would be the Y61 'Trol. It runs a bullet proof diesel that could tow as much as bigger diesels from other car makers.
    In the price range at which this comparison video was based on, the Y62 'Trol wins hands down.
    Most drivers rarely venture into the outback where diesel is an advantage. A petrol engine is quieter, smoother and at 5.7L in V8 form, is quite the combination.
    Remember that this is a Nissan engine - back in the 90s, Nissan kept winning the V8 Supercars with a front-wheel-driven car.
    Nissan makes awesome engines.
    Obviously Nissan's price slashing approach makes the Y62 'Trol financially viable too.
    Then of course ... there is reputation - 'Trol's a 'Trol.

    After watching this video I went online to compare prices of entry level petrol V8's in both these vehicles, it seems that the Patrol was around $13k cheaper than the LC, 91k compared to 68-69k, plenty of extra $$ to spends on mods for that sort of coin.

    The LC 200 and Y62 Patrol are both great. The thing is, TODAY the base model patrol goes for 79k AU$, while the LC base model goes for about 85k AU$. But that's only comparing base models, because if we were to compare the base Patrol with the Land Cruiser trim that is most similar to it (VX), in terms of features and materials, we would be looking at a 102k AU$ Land Cruiser. 2 very similar cars but a 20k price difference.

      Joe Deionno It is relevant, cause they also compared the quality of the interior and exterior. Regarding off road capability, in this test, the Patrol needed to hold back not to use its off road mode. A 96K Land Cruiser would probably have those off road mode, so both vehicles can be tested to their best ability without holding back. Putting a same priced vehicle to the test, will give a better perspective on which car is the better bang for the buck in terms of its quality of looks and performance.

      There is no such thing. The base Patrol is sub-$70k, the cheapest LandCruiser is the one tested at $76,500. They both represent the base models of the respective ranges.

      well these guys are wrong in this vid anyway, Patrols have always been better than any cruiser. Its got the genius world records for the only vehicle to climb the sand dunes. This new one has the fastest 100m climb on the sand dunes aswell. Patrol wins so I dono why these guys say the patrol finally has a worthy recovery vehicle.... The only thing i don't like about the new Patrol is the fact that we don't have the solid axle on coils anymore :( which means less travel on the suspension. But then again its alot faster so they must put independent suspension in to be safer on the open road and high speeds. Only thing good about Toyota is a Supra, that's it!

    I've wanted a LandCruiser for a long time but every time I look at them my head says No.
    The new ones are too much money - even the new ones are old hat interiors, like things were 7-10 years ago. Not acceptable for the price asked.
    Then I looked at older ones and the price asked is too much. 10 year old, 200 000km for 30 000€.
    They last a long time but they have their issues - diesel especially. Fuel economy and performance are terrible. Off road great of course.
    So I'll just have to decline. Unless a bargain used should ever pass me by..

    That cruiser is used in reserve areas like Northern Kenya where you don't see tarmac for over 800km, so not having easily destroyed expensive leather but having easily cleaned seats is the best option, steel rims are easily and cheaply straightened in case of damage, and best of all, it can be done in the bush, electronics and sensors hate fine dust, that's why that landcruiser has to be so basic.

    Understandably you guys compared the two models that are closest in price but if you were looking for the closest version of the two cars to compare a GXL would’ve been much better. The price difference between the two is obvious but I would certainly put the land cruiser in a different class for quality in regards to the driveline and even the rest of the car. The suspension in particular would be far superior over the patrol when doing some real 4wdriving while the patrol would be better on road

    FYI, a lot of those blanks in a Nissan are just decorative and there for symmetry's sake. All Nissans, Quest, Murano, Patrol/Armada, , Maxima, etc have that set of 8-10 "switches" to the bottom left of the wheel, and even on the top spec LE/Platinum model with all of the options and accessories checked, only 4-6 of them are actual switches. On their smaller cars with center console storage trays around the shifter, there are also unfillable blanks where the popout cupholders would be on a Quest or Armada, also for the sake of aesthetics and symmetry. So, why couldn't they have done one row of 4 or 2 rows of 3, instead of 2 rows of 4 or 5, nearly half of which are always blanks? I don't know why, I guess the technology team and the interior design team must have been unwilling to compromise on their respective aesthetic choices. I personally like it though, quirks like that give a car personality without harming usability, and you don't get that feeling that a human actually designed everything to their own aesthetic preferences on a Toyota or Honda. I for one am glad that a bit of French strangeness has started rubbing off on Renault-owned Nissan, but notorious French build quality has not.

    Would have been interesting to know real world fuel consumption of these vehicles and in particular that patrol, as 14.5L/100km's as a combined figure will likely rise to more like 20L per 100km's around town.
    Unless you truly need that level of off road ability, a BMW X5, Mercedes GLE or Audi Q7 is going to be a lot nicer to drive and live with on a day to day basis......but that's just my 2 cents.
    Thanks for the review :)
