The misery was overwhelming to the German people. But these series are very useful and educative. They encourage endurance despite the situation

The misery could have been avoided. With one telegraph from Berlin to London. We surrender. By 1944 the war for the axis powers was over.

Three of my uncle's fought in the second World War, although I'd have loved for them to tell their stories, like many didn't talk about it, other than the few humours moments. Through those stories it became obvious, the majority of the German soldiers didn't like the nazis in their ranks and were just human beings following orders trying to stay alive. Its so refreshing hearing their stories . The moments of humanity shown by many German soldiers and the suffering needs to be equally remembered as should all the GOOD men regardless of uniform

Had an uncle who was evacuated through Memel. He was already wounded, and was piled on deck with other invalids…to be strafed by allied fighter craft. He got his head wound that way. He recovered and rose to a high position in the Munich city government.

Look up the battle of Memel on Wikipedia and Guy Sajer who's memoir is being read by a very good narrator.

@@tonyromano6220 Well it looks like that it is an audio-book which you can get & pay for on line if you like. I have just bothered to start researching after "watching" quite a few episodes. As I am learning French I plan to get both the original book and the english version.

I think 🤔 ive heard this from a book 📖 I had on audible. I really love this, and cant get enough of them. It's helping give me ideas 💡 for the novel I'm trying write ✍️ 😩. If I dont destroy it and start over after 10 or so pages.

@@LukeBoyles-z5u it hasn't. I keep rewriting the beginning, and changing it up. I actually just listened to the audio book of this again very recently. I think it's now in my top 3 favorite books. And might even be #1. I might listen to it again soon. Even when he's on leave there's action. I need to just keep going on one of the books that I'm trying to write no matter how many new ideas that I come up with. I'll never finish anything at this rate.

Thoughts hit you as you listen to this account:
What happened in the Soviet Union in 1941-1943, was now happening in Germany in 1944-1945. War is a terrible thing.
How did Sajer, a Frenchman, who himself fled before the Germans, join those who attacked his country, killing so many of his countrymen, and then accompany them to attack other countries? War is a terrible thing.
Does he ever explain what he was thinking?

"We clung to our guns with trembling hands" is a kind of nihilistic poetry. It may very well be engraved on the tombstone either of the United States or of our demented internal enemies. These videos are hard to w̶a̶t̶c̶h̶ endure, but we must do so lest ignorance of reality lead us to engage in such things in the future.
