Hello, Mr. Finnish Commando !! I think you may well want to read books by author Geirr Haarr. His books mainly deal with the naval aspect (and politics, somewhat- intertwined, naturally as happens...) of the defense of Suomi from attack by the Kriegsmarine. His books are very, very well written and not "dry" history facts. The man is truly talented !! You will be glad you have read his books, should you chose to...

The successful battles in Demyansk were in large part due to the efforts of the SS Totenkopf division which was basically destroyed in the fighting, and other combat units such as the one detailed in the diary. The Luftwaffe air supply mission was also extremely effective, both bringing in supplies and reinforcements, and evacuating wounded men. Unfortunately the same template was attempted at Stalingrad a year later, with disastrous results.

Interesting! They made a reference to Valenki's which are basically a felt liner that you would find in a Sorel boot for example - because the Russians found out that at below -20 C, or there a bouts, it is much better to just wear the felt liner ; your feet stay warm, and the snow is so cold that the felt liners don't get wet.
My father was a starving German soldier in Russia in the winter of 43. He said there was one time where both sides were facing each other across a snow blown field and then a rabbit ran between the two sides. He said almost immediately a white flag on each side went up, and then two guys from each side met in the middle and discussed who should shoot the rabbit. The rabbit was shot and each side got half a rabbit.

My mom's pop told her in early 43 about the scenario on the Eastern Front (.Russian , Soviet) , and how fighting was bitter ! He described how the Soviet Partisans coaxed the local peoples to help keep the Partisans stealth by their duty to " Mother Russia" in defeating the Nazi Soldiers ; euphemistically telling the locals how to be patriotic by being human shields , and perpetrating the burning of farm houses - huts of the Russian farmers , and it's inhabitants who lost their hm. " American Civil War" 1861-1865 where 720000 troops of Union , and Confederate troops perished ; the bloodiest conflict that USA endured !!

Sharing personal information/combat experiences making this documentary more authentic and possible. Had the blitzkrieg commenced May 22nd. The blitzkrieg invasion may have been successful??? Except for the disillusioned/arrogant WW-1 dispatch runner 🏃 corporal YHitler's orders for general Guderian. Not to invade Moscow (20) miles away. Thus Stymying the momentum of the blitzkrieg invasion. That was never to be regained. Giving general Zhukov ample opportunity to reorganize his demoralized forces. Reinforce Moscow's perimeters/denying general Gudarian's conquest to set up military operations command in the Kremlin. The rest is history.

Just another example of people repeating things they hear without question. Not even asking themselves "Is June 1st in the autumn?"

Russ were Vikings, probably related to Germans. Humans are genetically extremely similar. Brat is brother in Russian and Bratwurst in German, obviously means brother sausages coz they're connected. It's pretty obvious to me that Russia and Germany have some commonalities but don't say it.

Others have only spoken how glad the locals were to see German soldiers. Or how much lice were villages were infested with.
Everyone thinks only the SS committed atrocities. They fail to realize that the Wehrmacht were first on the scene. The Wehrmacht cannot be blameless. It's not the "good Wehrmacht" but "bad SS".

    By "police" he means Gestapo.
And being surprised by "policemans" answer "seen worse" … he wonders where cld hv it been if the guy hs not been at the frontline😊
Well, actlly could& was. They made it themselves (Gestapo).
But the upper class tank commander, additionally brainwashed by propaganda, could not picture/immagine it.
