Young bodies are miraculously able to handle awful "food" choices. But a few decades down the road, when your body starts failing, you wish you had made smarter eating choices. Excess sodium is probably OK when working hard in the desert. It's better to avoid pigging out on empty carbs, sugar, or chemicals you can't pronounce. I suggest procuring food at a food market, even if it takes a separate stop from fueling up.

@@-mkg6982 Lol, that formaldehyde thing is way, way overblown. There are far worse things you can do to yourself - drinking alcohol, for example. Any formaldehyde you get from breakdown of aspartame is trivial compared to the formaldehyde your body naturally produces and uses. Ingesting aspartame doesn't lead to depression or cancer either. Also note that you would need to consume 17 cans of diet soda within 24 hours to reach levels deemed unacceptable by the FDA.
Drinking 120oz + of diet soda in a day will give me a headache, but this isn't related to aspartame, as both Diet Coke (aspartame) and Diet Pepsi (sucralose) have the same effect. Too much caffeine? Too much liquid? Too much carmel color? Who knows. I do know that my headache frequency has gone down quite a bit since I've cut back on the diet sodas. I will say that I much prefer aspartame in my diet soda, because the sweetness doesn't stick around inside my mouth, embedded in every nook and cranny of my tongue, for endless hours. I wish Diet Pepsi would go back to aspartame. (On a side note, many soda fountains dispensing Diet Pepsi get the mix wrong now. The soda come out 70% fizz and foam, the end result being near-flat Diet Pepsi - yuck. I suspect this is a result fountains not being adjusted after the formula change.)
I drink massive amounts of unsweetened tea now. What happens when I drink too much? My mouth goes a bit dry. Strange, right?
I guess the key takeaway is this: practice moderation.

The first (well, only) time I saw a rig have to take the ramp was something else.
I was in a late 80s/early 90s Corolla on the 5 in Oregon (where rigs can pull three trailers) and I noticed all the rigs start to stack up in a diagonal crossing the freeway (best guess is that the truck in trouble called out for a road block, and all the truckers popped out of the right hand lane and filled in the freeway). I immediately knew something was up, slowed down, and cut over to the fast lane to give everyone room. My girlfriend started freaking out (tiny old car, in the fast lane, in the rain, was something we never did ... we always just cruised in the slow lane), and I just told her "something is up".
The rig took the ramp (literal ramp, probably 20deg), gravel was flying everywhere, and then they hit the gravel piles, and water filled barrels at the end of the ramp, and it was an explosion of chaos.
Ever since then, I always keep my eyes on truckers when I'm on the freeways; if I see more than one of them do the same thing, at the same time, I know something is up, and my head is on a swivel
