      I was actually thinking that the actor playing the more aggressive one captured _that_ to a 'T' something that Christopher Lloyd failed to come even *close* to in ST#3. But you're right, he _was_ trying to capture that.

    I just want to to say that the fireside chat with the Klingon and the Starfleet officer is some of the best Trek writing I have ever seen. To me, it's canon. It describes everything. I don't know why other productions haven't included references to this particular story.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  4 роки тому +7

      First, thank you for watching and commenting! I spent months of research when I wrote this-- watched everything professionally made (This was before Enterprise even aired!) regarding the Klingons, and then I crafted my story to include an explanation for everything we've seen-- especially the Klingons who went from human looking to bumby-ridge heads. My sole purpose in making this film was to provide the reason why Klingons were who they are-- and not just because "now we have money so this is the way they look". So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind remarks. The original version of this movie came out in late 2001, and I still think it provides an entire reason for everything to this day. (With the exception of the change to the Klingons in Discovery... I think of those guys as a rogue variant, and perhaps a genetic branch off from the main family.) Much appreciation! You've made my day!

      IMHO: Discovery is pure folly, the Klingons there are pandemic. It was bad from the start. Your work is not of millions as is Discovery and now Picard (🤮), but are from simple convictions with whatever is on hand.

So later, when Enterprise did their version of the cause for the change, it was thrilling, but I felt they didn't cover every aspect-- like why Kor became a "bumpy head" later on, etc. So, I'm pleased that i was still able to cover every angle for the overall continuity of Star Trek Klingons, more than the official version. I'm very proud of this. Whenever someone enjoys the film, it means a lot to me, as you can imagine, all these years later.

    You have to remember, UFP's Star Fleet is a military organization. If you are active duty or a veteran, you are well aware of height/weight standards. Many overweight people here and the captain's hair length, ( grooming; Hippy).
    Search your heart, you know this to be true.🥞🧀🍟🍕🌭🌮🌯🥙🥓🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔🥘🍲🍝🍜🍛🍡🎂🍰🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍩🍮🍨🍧🍨🍧🍨🍩🎂🍬🍭

      While I appreciate your watching and commenting on our film, here is my reply: Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek did not consider Starfleet to be a military organization. It was it's own thing. Even today, the weight restrictions have changed for both the military and the Police as examples of accepting different and heavy body types. But even if you didn't accept that-- in the actual filmed Star Trek, the acceptance of overweight body types still in Starfleet can be found -- like the older Scotty and Kirk and many guest stars over the years in professional trek-- that's what we aim to represent! My captain in this episode is an alien, and the hair length is the length of his species. So, it's your turn to search your heart and know I speak the truth. Thanks for watching!

    Do not read comments below as it may sway your view and experience of watching this.
    Ok what I loved about this fan film was that it had the feel of the original but also a strong sense of how every kid wanted to be on that voyage and why I felt so nostalgic about it was it seemed like the friends house where the parents were cool and your friends dad built a movie set in the rec room and you go over and the whole on game night shooting an episode and make no mistake you got in serious trouble for making too much noise when the ion storm was coming. It even appeared like dad made a set for the grand parents who were on a rescue in the same plot. lol

    This is my second time watching and and commenting almost a year later but this time I am not drunk lol
    I must say that the writing and gaps filled in on the history of the Klingon empire was pure genius. I don't recall them ever thoroughly explaining how the Klingons changed from the original series to something different in later series. I recall an episode of DS9 when they went back in time and a crew member asked Worf about the ridges and he said "Don't ask". Maybe it was explained but I do not recall other than the Discovery changes.
    I think a lot of people have no idea how much work goes into something like this. Even knowing how hardcore fans are hard to please and it can be a real task to keep the history and all the sub plots from staying within the story you are trying to convey.
    The biggest problem I had was I kept thinking " I didn't know Jesse Watters played in a fan film as Lt. Roth". lol. He never messed his hair once.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  4 роки тому +2

      Wow, Alex! That was one of the greatest comments I've ever gotten. I did months of research, and when Worf said "Don't ask", I knew that was the doorway to leap into for my explanation! I beat Enterprise and their explanation by a few years, having shot my film in 1999-2000, but I am the only one as far as I know that tried to give a FULL explanation-- why the originals became bumpy heads, etc... So thank you from the bottom of my heart! I can't tell you how much it feels to be appreciated, and the work enjoyed! Thank you-- stay safe and healthy, and know you made my day!

      Thanks. My film came out before Enterprise, but when I saw their episode dealing with the subject, I was sad that they didn't go far enough. It still didn't explain all the reasons for the different Klingons-- like how the original Klingons from TOS ended up with ridges! When I was writing the script I spent months doing research including taking into account Worf's comments regarding the klingons and why Odo didn't recognize them when they went back in to time. They only dipped their toe in the water so to speak instead of taking the full plunge. Thanks again for watching and commenting! Really appreciate it!

      @@GeorgeKayaian I thought it was mostly clear, not in detail but generally speaking, that the Klingons experimented with Augment DNA, which originated on Earth and was therefore human. I don't know how much drama they could squeeze out of that storyline, but from what I understand Discovery hasn't touched it, and instead gave us a fourth version of Klingons (after the Kelvin movies.) I refuse to watch Discovery because I feel that CBS is holding the franchise hostage to sell subscriptions. Maybe if they put it on regular TV their network would be profitable....

    • @MrTaxiRob
      @MrTaxiRob 5 років тому +2

      what you've done with the klingons here is pretty close to the Romulan/Reman origin, so it's still pretty close to canon, just not for their species, and that's still uncanny.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  5 років тому +3

      @@MrTaxiRob Thanks so much for watching and commenting. When I created this film in it's original version, it was in 2001, before anyone had attempted to tell the reason why the Klingons differed so much. The only thing filmed at the time was in the DS9 episode when they revisited the tribbles storyline, and Worf and Odo saw the original Klingons-- Odo didn't recognize them and Work said something vague, as if it were a shameful secret. That inspired me to write and create Incident at Beta 9. This version (Director's Cut) is the same film, just brought up to date with it's spfx and sound mixing and putting in some scenes that were left out in the first cut. After Enterprise finally addressed the Klingon issue-- I was sad to see they weren't fully covering everything-- such as WHY the great Klingons from TOS became Ridged Klingons, etc. They only tipped their toe in the water, where I tried to explain it all.And yes, Discovery has done their own thing now with the Klingons! Despite all the years that have gone by, you'll find my explanation at least explains it all... but I'm just a huge fan, not official... so it's up to the viewers to accept or not accept the premise.

    I remember seeing the original a couple years back. Still one of my favorite fan films! I do have a question though: how did you get such an amazing bridge!? I’m currently in the process of working on a film myself, and I’m still stuck on the sets. I’m probably just going to green-screen that, but I prefer physical sets, they’re just so much more real.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  6 років тому +10

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting! The bridge was built by me, using material bought at an art store. With little or no budget, I used material I could afford: Foam board, various thick colored paper materials, christmas lights, electrical tape, and panels I created in Photoshop and printed out. I built the set in my apartment and had to live on the set for a few weeks while filming. I love actual sets myself! The trick is to build them so they look good on camera-- and not necessarily the way your eye sees them in person. Careful lighting and filming, knowing the best angles helps! It's worth the effort to build sets-- the actors do a better job in a real environment. Best of luck on your project! I hope to see it one day! Thanks again-- awesome questions and comments!

    This is kind of a pet peave of mine, not just fan films, but all Sci-Fi, "Engines, full power.", followed by "Emergency Power.", followed by "engineering, I need more power.", followed by "divert auxillary.", I mean really, "Emergency power" kinda means throw everything you got at it. And another peave, "gravitational anomalies", gravity such as in a black hole, is limited to light speed. Star Ships have Warp Speed, okay, Warp 1.000001 does the trick, and ships of this era had Warp 6, Emergency warp 8, thats 216 to 512 times the speed of light.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  4 роки тому +1

      I like the way you think! Your points are excellent. My take is that there are unknown forces at work on the starship as well as what you mentioned. And we find out what caused this "gravitational anomaly" in the next film (The Final Darkness) which is also on my channel. And the nature as to what caused it, supports the idea of something alien going on in this case. The point is, it gave me the freedom to keep the ship in jeopardy far longer than a regular black hole type of situation. I agree that emergency power might mean "throw everything into it" but in this case-- the final request for power meant using their life support systems, a last resort. So we start with just the engines, then other systems, then whatever is left usually not considered except in the most dire of situations. I appreciate your comments and for watching. I hope my answers kinda gave you some insight as to what I was thinking.

I was scoffed at and almost kicked out of the class. I maintained that Star Trek has a history (Canon), which is widely known, and people will jump you if you get it wrong. It has it's own language (Klingon-theres actually a dictionary out there in Klingon), it has it's own law's (The Federation with its directives, the Ferngi's with the rules of Aquisition), it's own currency (Star Fleet credits, Gold Pressed Latinum), the main cast of Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, and Voyager border on being saints, not so much Enterprise or DS9, and it has it's own God's,(Gene Roddenbury, DC Fontana, Rick Bermon, Brandon Braga(sp?), and then there is the one thing that seperates it from Star Wars (Sorry folks, Star wars is not Science Fiction, it is Science Fantasy), plausability. I am also an Amateur Astronomer, have been watching the night sky since I was 5 or 7 yrs old, built my own telescope at age 10 or 12 and have bought others.....but lost the one I used the most with my house....I miss it. The other day I set out to find fan films I’ve missed and found this gem in the here, and now, a.k.a. “The past (February 2024)! So glad I did. Fine storytelling! I’m curious: This adventure was originally released in 2002, which means you beat Archer’s Enterprise to the genetic engineering take on cranial ridges by three years (ENT SE4 ep15/16, Affliction/Divergence). What gives - did you beat the franchise to it or did you both get it from B-canon novels? Anyway, I’ve got a bunch of catching up to do with you, and I wish you the best of health, happiness, and bold goings.

      Greetings! I'm proud to say I took on the Klingon challenge first. At the time nobody was doing anything about it! My film was written by me and is totally original. I actually did months of research for what had been filmed in Canon up to that point, and came up with the reasons why the Klingons differed as seen in the movie! When ENT did there take on the Klingons I was disappointed-- it was incomplete and didn't make sense regarding why the TOS Klingons had changed when they appeared in DS9. My explanation is complete and explains everything!!!! It even accounts for why Worf refused to explain to Odo why he doesn't recognize the human looking Klingons in their Tribbles sequel episode. Over the years my movie gathered up a loyal fanbase, and I was told by people actually in the industry that they were aware of my film and my other trek films and thought they were really good Trek stories! I was blown away. Especially for a no-budget guy like me! So thank you very much-- you made my day! And you are always welcome to my channel! I look forward to hearing from you again if you get the chance to watch any of my films!

      @@GeorgeKayaian thank you so much for that reply. I’ve watched a whole bunch of UA-camrs’ rationalizations of how those ridges changed over the centuries. We’ll just call it a bunch of fun rather than have me be a grumpy boomer. (In fact, I appreciate all Trek, even Discovery for at least trying something new, even it introduced a whole new level of confusion between the “pre-prequelness” and Klingon madness!) I’ve watched some more and will continue to. In short, for now…greetings from Chicago!

    Enterprise explained the Klingon event. Unfortunately, the Klingons seemed doomed to change depending on who's in charge with each new iteration.

    • @GeorgeKayaian
      @GeorgeKayaian  4 роки тому

      My movie was written and filmed BEFORE ENTERPRISE was aired! I'm proud to say, my story is actually more complete than their eventual explanation, as it explains why Kor, Kang, etc became bumpy heads, as well as the reason for the different Klingon types in general. It premiered at I-CON 4 to a packed audience, and was well received. Actually, despite the yers, my story is still the most comprehensive on the subject of the Klingons. It was created for the main purpose of explaining up to that point what the Klingon situation was, and how it came to be. This is the Director's Cut in which I was able to remaster my movie, and tweak a few things here and there, so don't be fooled by the date posted for the video-- it is still my old movie! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      ToS did not have the budget to make advanced alien makeups so they made do with goofy outfits and body paint. Coming The Next Generation we got the rubber forehead aliens. DS9 gave us better makeup jobs with the Cardassians. Enterprise could use computer animated Sectoid Xindi but we didn't see much of them. If we where to set up a new series today with a proper budget and respect for the original setting a lot more could be done. I do noticed that the short animated series used more "alien looking" aliens including a three armed guy on the bridge telling me that the ambition was there. I guess that a main reason for why we don't see odd skin colours much in the main cast is to avoid what happened to the character Rev. Bem in Andromeda that had to be dropped when the actor got allergic to his own outfit.

      Thanks so much for watching! The planet's natural chemical composition and minerals mess with the communicators and tricorders, causing them to work erratically. Sagan and Roth knew this, so when there was long stretches of no communication, there was an understanding why. As shown in the movie, during the campfire, they managed to talk on the communicators-- but only briefly-- long enough to make plans. Plus, at the time, each one had a Klingon on their hands to deal with-- (a tough situation for both of them). And yes putting out campfires is important-- but there was no danger in this case, since they were out on a dirt and rock environment, and there was no chance of it spreading. Thanks so much for your questions and comments. It's appreciated.
