Me and my father have camped on that island for almost 35yrs now. Long before it was a designated camping spot. We put the original toilet on that island, made all the tables and made it a home away from home. Glad to see other taking care of it like we do. So many great memories there and now get to share it with my son! He loves it. Did you sign the tree fort? My son and father built it!
Awesome, it was definitely a needed site with some extra luxuries. Are you part of “The Bent Fender Gang”? We didn’t sign the fort as we had no writing tool. We did enjoy reading the walls, and speculating on the origins of the fort. A great campsite for sure 👍🏼

It's possible the fireplace was built for the Prince of Wales because your close-up of the old metal badge looks like a crown with the Prince of Wales feather in the centre - originally white but faded away now.
@@hardclimate For sure 👍🏼 It’s a cool story with some conflicting information, but that adds to the intrigue. I have another video titled The Prince Of Wales Fireplace. It has some more history and photos of the structure. Thanks for watching. Dave.
it was built for the Prince of Waled but the group cancelled on the Ramsey lake portion. its believed that the locals burnt it down as a protest but in reality it was burned by the MNR instead of selling or leasing the property. .
@@simonlester83 I would say yes. There were only 2 portages, both very short. The first one at the dam is basically a road and less than 100 yards. The second one has the trolley track and a cart to pull everything across. It’s a great trip, Indian Lake was a highlight, and the train was great too.
you can drive to Ramsey so why take the train, you should use the budd car to travel between Chapleau and White River you will find more wilderness there.
@@eltrippers true enough i used to work for the MNR in the Chapleau district. I have many fond memories from my time up there. I was a conservation officers aide but i mostly did mercury sampling and cleaning up road kill moose and nuisance bears. The last moose i had to dispatch was in the town of Ramsey after it was hit by a train.
@@eltrippers yes the largest game preserve in the western hemisphere was a great place to play i also posted about a thousand no hunting and trapping signs on it's perimeter. I havent been up in quite a few years but i am thinking about a fishing trip up there next year.

Thanks for sharing!! Awesome video
🍻Cheers.
Brings back many memories of my fishing trips to Canada as a youngster with my family and friends. Thanks for the video. 😊
That's great, family trips to the outdoors leave wonderful impression on kids.
Hello! Looking for more info on moonshine island. Any chance you have coordinates or some sort of direction?

Would this be doable with 2 guys and 2 heavy (100lbs) fishing kayaks? Great video!

@@eltrippers thanks. Yes, looks like a unique experience with the train ride and having the trolley would be a plus for us. Really enjoyed the vid.

Could drive to Bisco too. Wanted to ride the Budd car, and wanted to paddle the lakes in that area. So 2 birds one stone.

@@Grant-m3j Thanks for the extra info, that would have been a great area for a job like that. So much outdoors to explore.
