Friends and family out and about in the Elliot Lake area, and beyond. A love of the outdoors, Ontario, and all of Canada.
Fish, hunt, canoe, hike, ATV, and just explore Northern Ontario.

McCarthy Lake, A Four Day Canoe Trip With My Friend Chris.
My friend Chris and I went on a canoe trip to McCarthy Lake and a few other nearby lakes. It’s just a short drive south of our homes in Elliot Lake. We mostly explored the area, but we also tried our luck at fishing. We found a few natural beaches, and the one we camped on the first night was absolutely stunning. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay.

Aubrey Lake Solo Canoe Trip - 4 Days of Awesome Fishing
Переглядів 2743 місяці тому
This is a four day solo canoe trip starting on Aubrey Lake in the Algoma region of Northern Ontario. Part of The Mississagi River route, this is a beautiful area to explore. The fishing was exceptional on this trip, as was the weather. A relaxing trip with no plan or destination. Thanks for watching.

Pike jumps out of the water, over the canoe, and back into the water. Just a small guy, but was still hooked up. Released for another day.

A 7 day canoe journey out to Georgian Bay and around Philip Edward Island. We started at the river access in Killarney Provincial Park, looped around the island, and back to the access. An amazing trip with so much to explore and see. We ended with a visit to Killarney Outfitters and the village of Killarney for a walk about ,and fish and chips. #georgianbay #killarneyprovincialpark #killarneyo...

On our Georgian Bay, Philip Edward Island 7 day trip, GoPro created this edit of the paddling on day 2. The winds out on the bay were quite strong so we went in and out of bays to stay paddling. A great day of exploring in the canoe.
The Dunlop/Mace Loop
Переглядів 3147 місяців тому
In early May of 2024 Chris and myself took a 7 day canoe trip around the Dunlop/Mace Loop. The weather was mostly cold, wet, and windy. But we were treated to an amazing Northern Lights show to make up for the weather. A terrific trip.

This took place on a 7 day canoe trip around the Dunlop/Mace Loop. My friend Chris and myself were camping on an island on Upper Mace Lake. With the fire dying and two tired trippers, we started to put out the fire, then noticed the beginnings of an amazing light show. These photos are unedited from our phones.

Beer Can Chicken on the Pit Boss Smoker
Переглядів 25610 місяців тому
I picked up a stainless steal beer can chicken roaster at a yard sale last summer, and never tried it out. With this crazy winter weather I thought I would give it a go on the smoker for St. Patricks Day. So a chicken, a Guinness, and some smoke on the Pit Boss and we're good to go.
2023 RECAP - Looking Forward to 2024

2023 was an awesome year in the outdoors, a canoeing 30 lakes in 30 days challenge, a canoe trip into the bush that started on a train, paddling in a crazy fog, solo tripping, and other Northern Ontario adventures. All while the forest fires of 2023 kept us on edge. Here's looking forward to 2024, and more exploring Ontario's North.
The Prince Of Wales Fireplace - Near Biscotasing, Ontario
Переглядів 24011 місяців тому
All that's left is this stone fireplace oddly facing the water. Legend says the fireplace and lodge were built in 1919 in the hopes that Edward, The Prince Of Wales would stop there on his Canadian tour. Newspaper records show he did visit spots along the way to fish and hunt, but did not make it to this one. There were likely many requests from towns and cities to stop and visit. The lodge bur...

you can drive to Ramsey so why take the train, you should use the budd car to travel between Chapleau and White River you will find more wilderness there.
Could drive to Bisco too. Wanted to ride the Budd car, and wanted to paddle the lakes in that area. So 2 birds one stone.
@@eltrippers true enough i used to work for the MNR in the Chapleau district. I have many fond memories from my time up there. I was a conservation officers aide but i mostly did mercury sampling and cleaning up road kill moose and nuisance bears. The last moose i had to dispatch was in the town of Ramsey after it was hit by a train.
@@Grant-m3j Thanks for the extra info, that would have been a great area for a job like that. So much outdoors to explore.
@@eltrippers yes the largest game preserve in the western hemisphere was a great place to play i also posted about a thousand no hunting and trapping signs on it's perimeter. I havent been up in quite a few years but i am thinking about a fishing trip up there next year.
👌 so bugs were good ?
For sure, pretty easy to avoid in the more open areas. A beautiful area.
@eltrippers yeah I saw a couple black flies in your video but I imagine the wind off of Georgian Bay would of kept anything flying to a minimum.
@@ktownc936 Yup, overall very few bugs for this trip, especially on the bay side.
Looks like an enjoyable trip. Thanks for sharing.
It really was. I will go back again.
Very nicely filmed. This loop is on my to-do list with a buddy of mine. We will also solo paddle, which is really the way to do trips if you can. Your detailed filming will be a great aid for planning. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, it was a fun trip, Upper Mace Lake has its own unique vibe. I watch many of your videos for ideas on destinations and filming techniques. Thank you 👍 I'm also a 1961 child.
Very nice trip report, the drone and pics at the end were an added treat. My tripping days are over @76 yo but I’m going to visit the Elliot Lake area next spring from here in Maine for a base camp trip. Thanks, I really enjoy your content.
Thank you. Just out having fun in a beautiful area of the country. Hit me up if you need anything from my end here.
Wonderful to have nice places to go close to home. Some real pretty lakes just a bit north of McCarthy.
@@donalddakota8069 For sure, Whiskey Lake comes to mind. 🛶
@@eltrippers Yes it does. Jon from Lost Lakes has a great video going through all those lakes. So does Explore the Backcountry, worth checking out if you have not seen them.
Which country is this in great video 👍
Northern Ontario, Canada. Thanks for watching.
Well done! I love seeing the opportunities available in our backyard. Thanks
Thanks, a fun trip.
thanks for sharing
Well done! I live in E.L. as well. I'm planning on doing this loop in 2025. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, it was a lot of fun, with options to extend it.
for the last 37 years i have fished about 1.5 hours north of your spot. for health reasons i couldn't go this year. this video makes me dream of next year. i love the north of canada.
@@bradbradshaw-i4n Hopefully all is well for a return. I feel blessed to spend time here enjoying the outdoors.
Love the lack of plans and just going where you go. Looks absolutely beautiful, anytime paddling and fishing is a great time. The loons calling and the moose in the water - I mean come on, it doesn't get any better than that! Heading up towards the Massey area ourselves shortly and your video makes me want to bring the canoe. 🎣
@@simplewoodslife the fall colours are really popping now.
Very relaxing trip. Great fishing. Nice video Dave!
Looks like an awesome trip Dave! Jealous!
Awesome video looks like a great rout thinking about trying it out in September. Just wondering about the boat launch on Dunlop shores road. Can you park overnight there?
@@dougdawson2873 Yes, people do regularly. Winter and summer.
Wow yeah I’ve always loved Killarney. Nice trip- those rocks are showing millions of years on gradual erosion.
@@jasonbeansguitars It really is a gem of a place.
I love the tactile feeling of conditioning wood. Those paddles are beautiful.
@@farrahtittle6675 For sure 👍🏼 it’s a warm friendly finish.
Great video. My wife and I were the couple that passed your site late that last evening.we found a spot not far. Beautiful area
@@scottmacgregor9385 That’s awesome 😀!! I have often wondered how you made out. The spot I was at wasn’t actually a site, just enough clear space for a tent and a fire on a rock. What a beautiful September weekend that was.
It's possible the fireplace was built for the Prince of Wales because your close-up of the old metal badge looks like a crown with the Prince of Wales feather in the centre - originally white but faded away now.
@@hardclimate For sure 👍🏼 It’s a cool story with some conflicting information, but that adds to the intrigue. I have another video titled The Prince Of Wales Fireplace. It has some more history and photos of the structure. Thanks for watching. Dave.
it was built for the Prince of Waled but the group cancelled on the Ramsey lake portion. its believed that the locals burnt it down as a protest but in reality it was burned by the MNR instead of selling or leasing the property. .
Hello! Looking for more info on moonshine island. Any chance you have coordinates or some sort of direction?
@@nicchevrette5714 The coordinates would be, 47.254761° N, 82.113924° W About 5km south of Biscotasing, and about 1 north west of Moonshine Lake. A kidney shaped island.
wooooo!
That was pretty funny. Pike sure do get lively once they see the boat.
Nice flight!!
@@JeffMacCullough Thanks. 👍🏼 it was a fun moment.
Nice! So much beauty. Thanks for sharing!!
@@supergoodcamping Thanks, it’s a beautiful area.
Some very nice footage. Thanks for sharing! I recognize some of the sites and landmarks from my voyages around PEI. Kudos for making the smart paddling decisions; even with my sea kayak it can get a little gnarly around the points.
@@kengtr Thanks, it’s an awesome area to paddle and camp. And, for sure, it can whip up pretty good.
I'm very much enjoying your videos. Your Phillip Edward Island one was particularly interesting, I hope to do some paddling there soon. But your Bisco video also brings back great memories of my trip down the Spanish. 👍
@@flynorthproductions Thanks so much. I see you have videos of some very interesting locations that I’ll be watching when I can sit down and enjoy them. Paddling season seems too short sometimes.
i love Noganosh , think I will be soloing there myself in late sept
Lovely video, kooks like a great trip!
Nice trip guys✌
@@OpenAirOutdoors Thanks it’s a beautiful area.
Would this be doable with 2 guys and 2 heavy (100lbs) fishing kayaks? Great video!
@@simonlester83 I would say yes. There were only 2 portages, both very short. The first one at the dam is basically a road and less than 100 yards. The second one has the trolley track and a cart to pull everything across. It’s a great trip, Indian Lake was a highlight, and the train was great too.
@@eltrippers thanks. Yes, looks like a unique experience with the train ride and having the trolley would be a plus for us. Really enjoyed the vid.
I follow you on Instagram and was recommended to your content by UA-cam. I am not disappointed at all! This looks like a really nice loop; thank you for taking us along. The access to Dunlop Lake looks too good to be on crown land. Is this loop on Crown Land or in a park? We will definitely be following your adventures going forward. Cheers ✌.
The access we used is a public boat ramp on highway 108, just north of Elliot Lake. The access is on Dunlop Lake which is a mix of crown land and private land. The first portage is into Ten Mile Lake which is almost all crown land. The second portage takes you to Ezma Lake and into Blind River Provincial Park. It’s a non operating park, so no reservations needed. You would be in the park until the 1.4km portage from Claim Lake back to Dunlop Lake. Thanks for the kind words. 🍻
OooooooooOooooo
What an amazing trip! Upper Mace campsite looked beautiful... it all did, but wow, just gorgeous. My brother in law's up in Elliott Lake, might have to bring the canoe up next time we visit. Awesome video. 🛶
Thanks. 🍻 Upper Mace is a real treat.
Just confirmed your subscription on Instagram saw you had a UA-cam so here I am and took less than 30 seconds for me to subscribe here , anything outdoors and I'm hooked and along for the ride. Have the notifications bell hit too. Awesome video.
Thank 👍🏼 I have done the same. Looking forward to viewing your videos.
@@eltrippers Thank you
Great video! Question: Do you normally portage once or twice? i.e. - once with the canoe and then go back and do it again with the gear, or all in one shot?
Thanks. At 63 I like go twice, the legs and back can cramp on long paddles, so a walk in the woods is welcomed. Being retired, there’s no hurry or desire to race to the end.
Thanks for the video! Many trip plans this year?
Well, we’re both retired so we keep an interesting list of possibilities, then throw a plan together rather quickly. We stick to places that don’t need reservations, crown land or unorganized parks. A solo trip or two is hopefully happening as well.
Great route. I did that same trip last year. Fantastic fishing!! Thanks for sharing.
I saw your video, thanks. 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing!! Awesome video
🍻Cheers.
Those photos are fantastic! How cool was that experience?
I stayed at this campsite last Wednesday night on my last night! Did you do a loop?
Yup, Dunlop to Dunlop. Did you do the same loop? Upper Mace is pretty sweet. Great campsite ⛺️. We had a crazy tailwind, and paddled the full length of Dunlop in amazing time. I live in Elliot Lake so it was kind of a backyard trip.
@@eltrippers yes. Stayed 2 nights on upper mace. Last night on claim. Great fishing!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

You're great. What a spacious boat you have, brother.
Thanks.
Not sure what's cooler; you saving yourself some of the chickens stout, or a yard sale find put to good use! This looks absolutely delicious, and the potato trick is genius!
Looks like an incredible 2023 season mate! How are you going to top that?
It was fun, hopefully there are no fires this summer, and we'll get out and paddle. All the best!
You missed a hidden jem. Moonshine is a small lake hidden back in the bush near your last campsite. Looked like a great adventure you guys had anyway. Cheers
We were planning on portaging into it, but time was getting tight with catching the train out. I did fly a drone out and over it.
Well, 2023 looked like a pretty good year! Nice new paddle, to boot. Here's to an even better 2024, neighbour!
Thanks. And you guys as well 🛶
Well sir, the ice fishing aside (still waiting for it lol), you officially have me missing the summer now. Cannot wait to get out in the woods with the tent and canoe. What a wonderful recap of the year there, looks like you had a blast!
Thank you. You are correct, the tent 🏕️ and canoe 🛶 are calling.
@@eltrippers even though I still don't feel like we've had a winter, I'm with you; bring on the heat.
Though I did spend 7 hours ice fishing today, after snowmobiling to a remote lake. But the weather forecast says I might be done now.
@eltrippers now you have me missing winter and summer. We've been in perpetual spring/fall for the last few months, minus a few chilly and unseasonably warm days. Supposed to be 15 today, -12 tomorrow. 😳 How'd the fishing go?
@@simplewoodslife That day was slow, they had turned off for some reason, but there were a number of friends out and the conversations were great. I did get a nice one for dinner though.
Northern Ontario at its finest. We are so very fortunate here. Going for walleye today. Great meeting you two fellas the other day. Great compilation video.
Thank you, great to meet up, and good luck on the walleye.
@@eltrippers thank you. Only pike so far, need to get on the board for other species. 4 days left of the derby. Started late. Keep on the great trips. Have you gone to Puddingstone Falls yet? Boland River Road, if I remember correctly.
We have been to Puddingstones Falls, yes 26 km in on The Boland River Rd. Well worth the drive.
That’s some great fishing! Have you been out yet this year? We’ve gone twice an hour up North, without success. We’d head out your way once there is more ice and bring the freeze dried.
Really slow fishing so far, sketchy I’ve had limited access to the better spots. Last year was a fun season 🎣
@@eltrippers super nervous for our favourite spots because of the ice. Still hoping to get to those spots soon.
