Every time I watch a TH video I'm amazed by your positive attitude, I mean as a man who hikes all the way carrying all those stuffs, sweating and having to film himself walking and then coming back to pick the camera, and then still being able to say to the audience "absolutely fantastic", you rock.
Wonderful. I am absolutely pleased that you were able to enjoy the beauty I grew up in and continue to call home. Looking forward to the rest of your videos.
It’s fun to see you exploring a landscape that I’ve come to take for granted. I live at the foot of the Cascades, near Mount Baker, and I really need to get back out in our gorgeous mountains again.
I really like the rock fall lines, you have them on the mountains opposite and they draw your eye down to the lake and the scene in general. Just a personal opinion obv. Wonderful.
Thomas. I love your videos. As a lifelong photographer, it was a particular pleasure to see you in my backyard. There as so many beautiful places here, my home. Please know it’s been a magical pleasure to myself visit yours. Glencoe is one if those ethereal places everyone ought to see one day. Throw in Skye, and it’s hard not to be in photographic heaven. It would be a joy to meet you at some Croft one day and go to shoot or you, here, to show you more places in the Pacific Northwest. Great job. Keep them coming.

Very proud to be from the Pacific Northwest. Glad you were able to experience it! Thanks as always for the videos! I enjoy them and have learned a lot from watching.
So I'm a photographer by trade. I make money dong events, portraits and weddings. But I'm also the guy who ALWAYS has a camera on him to shoot whatever comes across my path. My main reason for writing is to tell Thomas that his videos have always had a super calming effect on me. His voice, the music and the subjects he shoots. Its like listening to guided meditation at 1:25 am while trying to relax and find sleep. Thanks Thomas.
Welcome to the PNW Thomas! You could spend a lifetime photographing the endless compositions in the Cascades and still only be scratching the surface. The North Cascade Highway is the perfect place to start! Great video, as always. :)
Blue skies. Yup, welcome to the PNW in the summer :). It's so hard to get a good day with some interest in the sky when you're able to go out on the trail. It's either cloudy and/or snowed in for most of the year or completely clear for 3 months of the year. I also struggle quite a bit here because you have to stay out so late during the summer to catch the sunset and the good views are so high up. Hiking down a couple of miles is not fun when it's dark.
Thomas, I've pretty much learned the ways of landscape photography from this channel, since when it was in its infancy. It's been a few years, and I'd say I'm relatively proficient at getting landscape shots thanks to you. Now that you're in my backyard, and come to places that I've been to, it's interesting to see the similarities and differences in our thought process for the same location. Thank you for all you've done to inspire my love for landscape photography!
Nice location beautiful awesome video too will need to put this place on my bucket list I personally do like the smaller unknown parks for the very reason that you can find yourself alone there 😍
Glad to see you're spending more time in the US National Parks, they can be a rich photographic opportunity. Be careful hiking on those trails after dark, they are treacherous. Hard to tell from the environment, but I've seen some stunning images of stars reflected in the lake if the weather and ambient light cooperates. Enjoy your trip and I look forward to seeing more.
Do you prepare for wild animals like bears or cougars or do you worry about that? Walking down a mountain at night scares me a little. Great vlog once again Thomas!!
Well, this series is very fun for me to watch since you're in my hiking grounds. Life has unfolded in such a way that travel is limited, so I do not take for granted that I can hop in the car and be in the North to Central Cascades in very little time. The views are often overwhelming, and words inadequate. I last did the Heather-Maple Pass Loop Trail two years ago with my niece, who took it all in with every fiber of her being. It was very fun to see it anew through her eyes.
Awesome photo and i like this clear sky, a great contrast between sky and Earth and ahh... what a stunning place! Thank you Thomas . Safe and successful journey to you.
This is just great Thomas - Thank you for bringing this old man along - I once did what your doing, hiking the mountains in Colorado - in the fall; just beautiful. Thank Thomas.
I think this is a great NPS initiative. Your feeling about Yosemite mirrors mine about the Grand Canyon. Next April I'll be on Vancouver Island with Gavin & Grumpy for a workshop, and I'm looking for nearby travel & photo locations to visit afterwards. Northern Cascades N.P. appears not too far away. It's now on my short list. Thanks!
I had no idea that a polarizer only works on a portion of the image! This must explain why I sometimes get these pixelated, shadowy lines in the sky when I shoot wide on a clear, sunny day. So glad you explained that. See, this is why I watch your vids! (that and your images are gorgeous, of course...)
A polarizer filters out (or admits) polarized light across the entire field of view. However, the sky is polarized to varying degrees depending on the sun angle. A polarizer doesn't help a telephotoshot directly toward or away from the sun. A wide angle lens produce weird shots with a polarizer because the fov includes portions of the sky with a wide range of polarization (e.g. some of the sky will darken more than other portions.
@@erikswenson2659 Thanks, that makes sense. I was out late yesterday taking some handheld wide angled shots w the polarizer & noticed that while some of them came out fine, other shots had this weird grey pixelation near the top. With a circular polarizer, does it change things when shooting wide angle if you turn it all the way or less? Think I probably just need to do some experimenting.
The distracting rock fall you mention is called, in geological terms, a talus slope. They are quite common in North American mountains. Great video, very nicely composed.
Much better than Yosemite+1 The other half of the Maple pass loop is also very beautiful! This is the first trail that I have to stop to take pictures every five minutes. Waiting for your video at Sahale Arm campsite!
Hey Thomas, looks like a beautiful location. I agree that many great locations are now overrun. Part of the great landscape photography experience is being somewhere QUIET and alone to be able to soak in the ambience. Love the shot!
It was great to have met you in Seattle and look forward to more of your videos. I will watch for your Mount Rainier work and hope to run into you again some time.
Ale Rodrigues just doesn’t feel the same when you have hundreds of people around you when you come seeking solitude and the feeling of “the great out doors”
Nice! I see your point about the dull sky but those rocky glacial moraines in the foreground excellently reflect others you see coming down on the other slops, which is a nice feature of these landscapes...
Stunning Thomas. Was in Yosemite in May for two days and if you weren’t parked for 11am, forget it and that isn’t even the busiest month. To add insult to injury, I wanted to photograph from glacier point and it was closed but opened the day after I left. Anyway, this looks stunning, might research further. Enjoy!
I see nothing wrong with that image at all Thomas I think you will re evaluate that in time it's a beautifully subtle image shot at the perfect time . What a place too , greT to see somewhere different .
Don’t forget the Central Cascades with the Alpine Lake Wilderness and the Enchantments! One of the most beautiful landscape i have seen. If you ever plan a trip into this region let me know. Friends of mine have a hotel and a house in the Bavarian styled village Leavenworth. So you would have a place to stay. 🙂

Something about summer time maybe? It's a nice photo, and it's a beautiful hike and trail. I would love to be there. But I feel as though your final thought on the image are accurate. It does seem like it lacks a mood. Maybe if you're in the area there again in a different season, you might find something more magical. Still a nice video and a photo.
