Hi Tom we met at this location I was the camper in the soulo on the summit we had a brief chat and i forgot to mention that you were the inspiration for me to take up both photography and wild camping since youre Place fell video and im a happier person for it so thanks and it was so cool to meet you Tom made my day atb
Thomas, so happy that you post the trips that are a bust (yours are never really a bust) as well as those that are a success. It helps us regular folks to know that even the best do always get the shot they’re after.
I've been watching your videos for about 7 or 8 months now and you inspired me to go out the past week on a photography road trip. Thank you for continuing to make great videos!
Tom, you spend a lot of time camping overnight at locations, have you ever tried landscape photography at night? long exposures lit by moonlight could produce interesting results, especially the valley pano in this video.
Thomas, I was just thinking about your videos today and what I get out of them. While I certainly do learn useful techniques and ideas, what I value the most is the refresh of the passion of photography you provide. Thank you for that.
The trick i learnt was a pointy finger shot at each end of the pano, that way you don't try and merge them in the wrong order. an up and down would work for focus stacking i should think. thanks for another fantastic vid
Regarding sounding repetitive (and I'm certain I'm not telling you anything you don't already know), you never know who is watching your videos for the first time. I'm sure every time you've mentioned your pano tips they've helped someone- even the more experienced of us. So thanks for that!
Great to see you back out in your van and exploring the fells. These videos are the reason I started watching you years ago and they’ll always be my favourite.
Beautiful views from atop the fell Thomas. Pano image was very nice indeed. Got my calendar and looking forward to seeing more of your great images every day 👍
Hey Thomas Got my calendar last week, came the last day of my 6 day confinement because of influenza, so cheered me up. Unfortunately that enjoyment was short lived as the next day our beloved 85 year old Binna Burra Lodge was lost in a Forest fire here in Queensland along with 20 houses (but no loss of life thankfully). The fires are still burning now deep inside the World Heritage listed Lamington Rainforest which is very concerning. But your video and chat help us bounce back a little so thank you again.
Always interesting to see, that conditions aren't always good. And awesome to see how you adapt to it. I've experienced that recently. I'm about to move, and still try to get a decent "memory" shot of my current city. And now I have some free time, and have scouted some places from which I might be able to get a decent shot. But conditions are so bland recently... The sky has either been grey in grey or simply blue with sunsets without any interesting color... Well, you can't change the weather... Maybe I'll have some luck this weekend...
Haha, I was laughing so much about the noises in the video. First you in the water every step you take, then the sheep in the backround. Nice video as always. What a pity for the light at the boat... Such a nice scenery
I think the problem for many photographers is that too often we can rely on the location/event to drive our photographs but the reality as you point out is that we need a lot of uncontrollable elements to come together to give us our best shots. I live on the Somerset levels which is pretty flat and I often shoot the same landscapes but the difference between my worst and best images come down to, the Sun, clouds, tides and the wind and you can't control those, all you can do is 'repitition' combined with as much local knowledge as you can find.
So good please keep these videos coming such a Inspiration to us all to get out their and do landscapes, I learn so much from your videos, you are making such a difference to people learning and shooting landscapes I for one thankyou neil
It's funny how one photographers "hard time" could be anothers "good time". Having read the title to this video it preempts the headspace Tom found himself. I too like so many have been here and will be here again all too soon, but I watched the first few seconds of this videos and got a whole 7 seconds in and thought that the roadway, valley and tree would be a good starting point for a decent composition. Quite possibly it is me looking upon a UK common rural scene with southern hemisphere eyes and if Tom was in my corner of the world would be all excited for the new photographic subject before him. If you could bottle that adrenaline rush you get when you enter a new area into your everyday life you'd be raking it in! :)
The 1 portion versions are for when you need a meal after a flat walk, the 1.5 is for when you need that extra bit of refuelling after a tough hike 😉 Great video which showed how you made the most of the conditions you were given 👍🏻
I really enjoyed the video and the pano. Don’t beat yourself up about the sunrise shoot - you showed us how to make the most of it when the situation changes and the black and white of the boat is stunning 😉!!
Many thanks - no dramatic streaks of setting sun on clouds and hills but I think that is a really great pano of a beautiful, gentle, typically bucolic Lakeland scene
Really enjoyed this video. All of us have been there when the light or conditions are far from ideal. Appreciate getting your viewpoint on making the best of the situation, shooting B&W, etc.
I can totally understand your frustration on the Isle of Mull this week and its been tough to say the least, no sun rise worth shooting and same at the evening end, went out yesterday, shot a few locations got back and not happy with any lol thats the nature of the beast I suppose cant help what god throws our way just make the most of what we have time wise, which for me is a weeks holiday come rain or shine and theres been rain and wind in biblical proportions, enjoyed your thought as always, keep on keeping on !
When out and about and things aren't going your way, try not to be so hard on yourself. Always work with what you have and be open to the possibility of experimentation. You never know what might surprise you later. Besides, there are lots of tools you can use to work with your photos, and might produce some really interesting stuff in post. I do a lot of street photography and one of the things I love about it, is the spontaneity of things that I never knew were there when I took the shot. You should always challange and push yourself. Just try not to over analyze what you are shooting. Just go for it!
Love the hand trick. I have a similar yet different issue. I'm hiking, then after I have taken some shots... one of the children seems to always want to take a picture. I handle that by taking a picture of them between mine and theirs.
I really appreciate this video. I think that all things in life change, you don't always get what you want or expect. But you take what life gives you and make the best of it. The images are beautiful, even if they aren't what you were hoping for when you set out.
Besides getting to see my fiance, coming home to watch this is what gets me through Wednesday work shifts. Thank you for inspiration and entertainment!
Thanks for this video today, I really needed to see that this whole thing sometimes frustrates you as well. I spent the past 4 days backpacking through the Eastern Sierras with my camera and came away with almost nothing to show for it. I'll be making a video of it in the coming weeks, but because there's only a single ok image, I'm less than enthusiastic about editing together that video. So thanks for showing us that you too are sometimes disappointed in what you're able to capture.
Thanks for yet another video that makes me want to get in the van and get out there RIGHT NOW! Also this black and white blurry boat image gives me motivation to go for such shots despite wind and movement... I've abandoned so many shots for this before. Thanks again, please keep on sharing these vids and images!!!
Totally get how you were feeling but really appreciate the video, reckon the results had lots of potential. Not many people can do these videos as enthralling as you do, felt like I was there too. cheers Thomas.
Wednesday inspirational video 👍 great video Thomas, 2 beautiful images from your latest adventure the views from the top are amazing looking forward to seeing if you go back there in the winter 👍
Born and raised in West Yorkshire, a stone's throw from here. I do get a little homesick watching your treks, Thomas. In a good way. Mud. Cold. Rain. Ah, the sounds, smells, and solitude. Good stuff. I swapped it for Canada, and Niagara Falls. Which is beautiful, and I love exploring it most weekends, but... it's not the Lake District.
I wish I had those cloudy conditions you folks get over there I am still going through my head how to do the dry desert scape I have. Sheepies love that over there
It was nice to see you get a bit winded during a hike. I was beginning to think that never happened to you lol... great pano, thank you for sharing such a detailed video.
I was at Crummock water for my first solo camping and photography trip last Thursday...was just about to start my video editing of trip and thought I would watch your latest video for inspiration and boom you were at the same place! I am def inspired now!
You certainly capture the romance of landscape photography as a way of life. Really nice video! One small thought about the abandoned boat. Perhaps since the boat is a relic, it should be a bit blurry. Getting closer with a wide angle might accentuate the motion blur.
I love watching your videos and the photography is outstanding. I'm a brit living in the wilds of Texas, Panhandle to be exact. Keep up the good work. Oh thanks for the speedy delivery on the 2020 calendar it's great.
I love you videos Thomas. They are top dollar. The thing that makes them for me is the outdoor lifestyle, and the overnight wild camping.. Apart from the epic photography, that's what really interests me. I'm moving to the UK soon from a country where we overnight camp a lot in the bush. One thing that bothers me continuously when watching your videos, is that you are always eating out of what looks like single use instant food plastic bags. Are you aware of the problems of single use plastic bags? Or do you think recycling it will make it go away? Convenience is killing the planet - please look into alternative ways of storing food. Cheers. Stu
I was struck by the contrast of your hike up the open grassy slopes, compared to your hike through the trees in the Cascades (my neighbourhood) and your bear sighting. Nice to see that you still have your long handled spoon.
Awesome video Tom. That black and white of the boat is beautiful. And the pano at the end was, dare I say Pan-tastic! 😂 The end screen shoutout was very nice. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thomas Heaton, you took the words right out of my mouth! "That's enough moaning! Let's just shoot the boat!" You're there aren't you?! Shut up moaning about the bloomin' light (or the lack of it!) LOL. Love you really mate! And your videos!
Just a little advice here.. I also used to shoot a "hand image" to conclude a sequence. Sometimes I would even go as far as to put my lensecap on for an image. However, I started to realize that its easier if I use the rate-button on my Canon. Nowadays I always tap the rate once at the last image of a sequence and so I can clearly see in Lightroom, photoshop and even in the EOS import program, where my panos end and the next sequence starts.
I must admit to really liking the black and white boat photo. Surprised you didn't choose one with more of the sunset light for the last photo though. Obviously the light wasn't right. Beautiful spot though. Looking forward to seeing it with snow :-)
No naan bread with your curry Thomas? 😀 I love the Lake District! Just come back from there on Saturday. Going back at the end of next month for a long weekend. Can't wait! Great video and photos
I know this is redundant and you're probably tired of hearing this, but.....once again, another great video! Thank you so much for the wonderful content! I'm looking forward to getting my calendar! Cheers!
Quite a good scene. Something to look at when you are in a big busy city and wish you were there. I notice that you have quite a few home comforts? Go on, really rough it....
Since i have been working i can only photograph in the weekend, but every single weekend from summer, it has been raining, frustating:) but i am positiv, lol, great video Thomas as always!
Morning Tom Welcome back to the Uk Autumn welcomes you with its challenges. The Mr Grumpy title is all ready taken ! ( Adam Gibbs) but good try. Hey Thomas! Love your photography and the channel. Would it be possible for you to put the ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed values under the photos when you show them in the video? It would help me, and probably everyone else who is trying to learn photography, a lot as I'm still trying to understand what settings to use in different situations.
Liked the video for showing that I'm not only one that suffers from those days of poor light. Here in NW Ontario Canada at this time of year you get days of dark, wet days. I still get up at 5AM in hope of heading out in the boat and catch those early Ray's of sun through a mist, you never know. Like the B/W idea. Thank you
As always Thomas what a beautiful locations, sweet photos! And i think, when the camera is in your hands there is never bad air, there is no bad light. Everything just perfect! Both photos awesome, but I am impressed by first photo, it's like something from the past... Great B&W photo. Thank you so much for your all videos. Good luck!:)
Hi Tom we met at this location I was the camper in the soulo on the summit we had a brief chat and i forgot to mention that you were the inspiration for me to take up both photography and wild camping since youre Place fell video and im a happier person for it so thanks and it was so cool to meet you Tom made my day atb
Love your videos Thomas, and I LOVE the photo at the end. it must be hard to produce a great photo AND a great video. I sure appreciate them.

Left hand at the start of the series, right hand at the end of the series
@@henrymc5733 maybe a slate with the location, shot name, photographer and take
You’re probably glad you didn’t have an extra half serving of less-than-average Chicken Curry. Cheers!
That boat ... black and white medium format film... square format...
Beautiful views from atop the fell Thomas. Pano image was very nice indeed. Got my calendar and looking forward to seeing more of your great images every day 👍
Your hard time makes it easier for us when we take pictures. You motivate the rest of us to take more pictures and try new things.
Thanks Thomas for this simple episode. I agree, shooting that scent in winter with some snow caps would be even more beautiful.
Can't thank you enough for this video, shows what it really takes to shoot ONE beautiful image. Have a great day!
Hey Thomas Got my calendar last week, came the last day of my 6 day confinement because of influenza, so cheered me up. We all have hard days with photography. Its how you deal with those days and learn from the experience and progress, that matters...
I am enjoying watching you change into an adventurer and growing landscape photographer! Keep up the great work and stay on your quest!
Haha, I was laughing so much about the noises in the video. First you in the water every step you take, then the sheep in the backround. Nice video as always. What a pity for the light at the boat... Such a nice scenery

I loved the black and white. It doesn't matter that the light didn't work out. This photo has so much character! Well done!
The 1 portion versions are for when you need a meal after a flat walk, the 1.5 is for when you need that extra bit of refuelling after a tough hike 😉 Great video which showed how you made the most of the conditions you were given 👍🏻
I agree Wayne. I often take in lots of extra calories to fuel up for the next long hike.
I really enjoyed the video and the pano. Don’t beat yourself up about the sunrise shoot - you showed us how to make the most of it when the situation changes and the black and white of the boat is stunning 😉!!
Best photography videos/lessons/inspiration ever. Very entertaining and educational. Keep them coming.
Many thanks - no dramatic streaks of setting sun on clouds and hills but I think that is a really great pano of a beautiful, gentle, typically bucolic Lakeland scene
I've been using that exact hand trick for years myself too. it REALLY REALLY helps!
Really enjoyed this video. All of us have been there when the light or conditions are far from ideal. Appreciate getting your viewpoint on making the best of the situation, shooting B&W, etc.

First class photos Thomas, and another very enjoyable video, thank you so much , always take something from them.

super chill to see an old skool Lake District photography video again! I just love the way you show the calmth in your videos.
Really like both pictures! And ever since I'm watching your videos, I also always end my panoramas with a hand-picture, very helpful!
Of all the vistas I’ve seen in your videos, there’s no place like home. What a stunning view from up there.
Love the hand trick. I have a similar yet different issue. I'm hiking, then after I have taken some shots... one of the children seems to always want to take a picture. I handle that by taking a picture of them between mine and theirs.

Hi Thomas, I love that you're shooting more and more panos, they really look great and inspiring! And this one makes no exception.
Another peaceful zen like video from the master. You consistently remind me why I chase this art. Beautiful :)
Sooo inspirational Thomas, thank you for all your videos. Loved the shot beautiful
Totally get how you were feeling but really appreciate the video, reckon the results had lots of potential. Not many people can do these videos as enthralling as you do, felt like I was there too. cheers Thomas.
The drama of a cloudy sunrise landscape hehehe. I totally understand you here tom.
Wednesday inspirational video 👍 great video Thomas, 2 beautiful images from your latest adventure the views from the top are amazing looking forward to seeing if you go back there in the winter 👍
Thomas, Summit to Eat, Chicken Tikka... It's the best dehydrated meal I've ever tried, so not to be passed up! You're welcome 😉😀
As u said in winter with snow and pink light it will be awesome but it will be probably even diffiicult hike in winter... iike that boat composition
Thoroughly enjoyed this Thomas. Gave energy to get out this weekend! Thanks!
Lovely pano and a great video as always. Thanks
I just watched “How to Train Your Dragon 3” with my kids and I just realized that Thomas Heaton *is* Hiccup!! It’s uncanny!!
Born and raised in West Yorkshire, a stone's throw from here. I do get a little homesick watching your treks, Thomas. In a good way. Mud. Cold. Rain. Ah, the sounds, smells, and solitude. Good stuff.

No naan bread with your curry Thomas? 😀 I love the Lake District! Just come back from there on Saturday. Going back at the end of next month for a long weekend. Can't wait! Great video and photos
Nice Feathered Friends bag next to you. I was at the store last weekend. Love their stuff and gong to buy a puffy jacket from them soon.
Exactly the same as what happened with my plan for the same place up on low fell, you’ve reminded me to go back, cheers :)
Autumn Equinox is September 23rd;) Better conditions are around the corner! Glad you are making the most of what you have.
Awesome video, Thomas! Keep it going!
Back in the van! Very good pano. I cannot say the same for that curry :(
I know this is redundant and you're probably tired of hearing this, but.....once again, another great video! Thank you so much for the wonderful content! I'm looking forward to getting my calendar! Cheers!
Brilliant location Tom and loved the final image and would have loved to have seen your image as the sun went down as well 👍🏽
Nice landscape shots though the conditions where not perfect in the morning. Like your Videos. They are very inspiring for me.
Great vid and image Tom , what a fantastic view
Nice! The pano at the end appeared to be one of the earlier shots judging by the cloud presence. Rock on!
Really like the boat shot! It turned out well in the end
This flat water slowly starts to look old school for my taste, i like the natural look much better.
At 18:48 - "And I'm not using any filters". You're such a rebel Thomas! :-)
Great video Tom, loved the images especially the b&w. Looking forward to your autumn vlogs for inspiration and ideas.
at least walking back to the van your not going to get hit by a car , nice loud jacket.👓 Great photos. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Quite a good scene. Something to look at when you are in a big busy city and wish you were there. I notice that you have quite a few home comforts? Go on, really rough it....
Excellent video, as always Tom 👍
I hope you always in the good health to share more the passion :)
Since i have been working i can only photograph in the weekend, but every single weekend from summer, it has been raining, frustating:) but i am positiv, lol, great video Thomas as always!
Morning Tom
Welcome back to the Uk
Autumn welcomes you with its challenges. The Mr Grumpy title is all ready taken ! ( Adam Gibbs) but good try.
Good to hear cross over quotes between you guys - it’s all in the light, light, light. It must be true.
Keep stretching those creative brain cells you know it will pay off in the end because you are well, good.
Looking forward to your images.
MJ
Beautiful video mate, we all struggle with the elements sometimes. Just have to keep pushing and make the best of what we get! :)
Hey Thomas! Love your photography and the channel. Would it be possible for you to put the ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed values under the photos when you show them in the video? It would help me, and probably everyone else who is trying to learn photography, a lot as I'm still trying to understand what settings to use in different situations.
Thank you for sharing this 👍, I m glad to see I m not the only one collecting epic fails 😃😃😃🤭
