  • This is a documentary film of us seeing first hand the upsetting reality of the devastating earthquake that hit Southern Türkiye one year later.
In 2020 we stayed in Hatay and filmed the remarkable vibrant city of Antakya.
On February 6th 2023 a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit the area in the early hours. The destruction and loss of life was catastrophic as the world could only look on in horror.
A year after the earthquake we returned to find out how this region is and how those who remained are coping to rebuild their lives.
We also met up with the founder, Mehmet Ali Gümüş who also works as a lawyer, of Buradayiz Hatay to explain how the non profit charity they set up is helping the people of Hatay.
The film compares to our video from 3 years ago with how it is today. PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO!
To donate to the none profit Buradayız Hatay Organisation/Charity please
    CLICK THIS LINK www.buradayizhatay.org/
Every donation or sponsorship received goes directly to help the people of Hatay.
The world has not forgotten you....

Best Trudie and Mick, It is incredible, astonishing, wordless, incomprehensible. It looks like an atomic bomb has been dropped in the HATAY/ANTAKYA area. Tears flow from my cheeks watching this video, it tears my heart apart, there are no words to describe such hell. More than 50,000 dead, it is indescribable, even more injured and then all those houses, apartment blocks and much more that have collapsed. I hope that the soul in the area of HATAY/ANTAKYA can return to the way it was. I wish everyone all the best ! ! !

You've done, again, a wonderful and informative job. Thank you for your efforts, thoughts, well wishes and support. It's such an experience to follow your updates. People of Hatay and the neighbouring cities affected by the earthquake will overcome it with the grievances embedded deep in their hearts but the important thing is to be able to take the lessons out of this disaster and don't let an earthquake turn into a disaster again.

This is video is heartbreaking, so much devastation and loss of life but the resilience of the Turkish people shines through.
We booked in winter 2022 to visit the SE, Antakya being our main historical town of interest, we would have been staying in the old town. Unfortunately we had to cancel the whole trip as we just couldn't face going after the devastation. Another year maybe Mardin, Sanliurfa and Gaziantep but it will take a long time for Antakya to get back on its feet.

Mick , Trudie , my wife and i were there a year before the quake and often wondered about so many of the places and people we meet whilst there for the few days ...very good to see the museum survived , an excellent museum so rich and well laid out ..the mosaic floor collection must be the best in the world and very good to see St .Peters church also survived ..we recognised the staff member who lost so many loved ones on that morning and later . The video really has to be award winning , covering every question one could have about Antakya be fore and after the quake , whilst being realistic and hopeful. We went to the monastery of Simeon Stylites the Younger near the Syrian border which was particularly rememberable , i have often thought how much more its ruins suffered particularly its pillar on that day ....We dont speak Turkish but you really were able to bring the warmth of the people out with your video .

But it's hard to fit in even though we are Turkiye born. We are very worried about war, fires, more earthquakes, etc. We are at the mercy of what the globalists want. Hawaii fires, food factory fires in the USA, 100 fires lit spontaneously in 2021 in many European countries starting in Marmaris, Mugla. These fires are not accidents.

Thank you Mick and Trudie. This is an incredible and emotional video to even remind us Turks about the situation in Hatay. It's also very nice for you to point out the need for donations. Thanks.

Thank you very much for the update; so happy those mosaics are still there... Very sad and unimaginable destruction and loss of life! Glad the people effected in Turkey got some help so that they can carry on to some degree, unlike those unfortunates next door in Syria due to mainly the political situation there! It will take years if not decades, effort, resources and special skills to rebuild! As usual love showing us the foods, roasted chestnuts, Dut .... etc. I think you covered all 👍Will be re-watching both of your videos of the region and taking notes ... ! Thanks again for taking us with you.

Mick & Trudie thanks so much for this, the most detailed report I've seen on the effects of the earthquake. I'm not an emotional person but I admit I shed a tear when you interviewed the security guard at St Peters Church. Çok teşekkür ederim.
