The start of my weekend, watching Aslan and Kevin, thank you. I am always amazed that watchers can't be bothered to click on the like (thumb's Up ) icon it's so easy
I always do, but I think people forget! When I watched this, it had 19K views but only 2.1K likes. Can't believe 17K didn't like it, I mean what's not to like!!😀
Your Rugeley mooring was about 50 yards from our house, as the crow flies. Just beyond the canal side row. Loved your take on our town. The new moorings you passed were put in in 2022. The gang moved to a stoppage at Wolverley but they'll be back in March to finish off.
Chugged past the Armitage Shanks factory last year and it was obviously Quality Control day. Repeated smashing sounds. Then much further along north of bridge 36 near Branston a heap of smashed WCs at a landfill site to rival the Great Pyramids. I feel privileged to have experienced the birth, use, death, and burial of a (once) British icon 🚽 😢
I love the sound of Asland chugging along. I'm actually embarrassed to admit how much I look forward to a new video. Keep it up. I'm excited to see what's cooking up next in the galley.
I feel the same way Karen. I sincerely enjoy spending this time with Kevin. He seems like the nicest, most regular guy (in the best way). Plus he has awesome taste in music.
One of my favorite things about Travels by Narrow Boat is that it allows those of us on the western edge of the pond to see glimpses of real life, everyday England instead of just seeing videos about history, royalty or tourist sites.
That beautiful, calming sound emanating from Aslan’s engine is all due to the internal timing of the crank. You are correct in that the sound is transmitted directly to Aslan by the way the engine is secured. In the states we had John Deere Tractors that had a similar sound in the 1950's. Aslan sounds strong and should last for years to come as long as you perform regularly scheduled maintenance like oil changes and replace the occasional parts that ware out like your injectors or pumps. Keep chugging.
There is a rather splendid little farm shop near the end of the Ashby canal with rather splendid pies on offer… there’s a sign on the bride and handy mooring space too
I must say that at the opening of this episode, when I saw the pork pie, I had to chuckle. I know you love them and what better way to celebrate the New Year. Enjoy it Kevin!
Sincerely, This is one of the few places where a refuge of peace exists on the Internet, so I can’t imagine how nice it is for you in real life. Thank you for sharing it with us.🙏
Just got in from walking my dogs, made a big pot of Yorkshire Tea, thought I'd sit down for half an hour before I head into my shed for some some woodworking, switch on UA-cam and there's Our Kev and Aslan, Cushty!! Always a pleasure sir!
Hi, Kevin. It makes it a nice Feb 24th watching you ring in the new year. I loved ' Warning No Stupid People'. If only we could enforce that. Stay well. Leigh
Glass of wine, GHG video and a newly arrived "lock up your pork pies" t-shirt (very nice quality by the way)...perfect start to the weekend. Happy New year 😊
We have been watching you and Aslan since the beginning. Love all your videos and your sense of humor. Keep up the good work and thank you for everything.
Hi Kevin. Lovely way to spend New Years Day afloat. It was nice to have a look around Rugely too - and yes, you made the right decision with the pie (I would have the pie any day) !! Great video - look forward to the next one. Regards RickLG
It's Saturday morning another crap week in the rat race behind me and a pile of invoices to sort ...Depressing! Then a notification pops up that country house gent has just posted another episode .... My mood lifts and the bloody invoices can wait ..... Kevin you're an inspiration ..
Hi yet another informative article on living on the canals of this country..I am glad that you informed people about the engine noise given off by your boat ASLAN. .. Long may you enjoy the life you have chosen ..all I can say is that I'm looking forward to the next episode on your channel..
I do look forward to your videos. The sound of the engine is almost hypnotic. It’s cold & rainy here so I’m going to binge on your videos. Have a great weekend.
Always glad to see a new video is up. Aslan's chug chug chug and a big cup of coffee makes a perfect Saturday morning- thanks Kevin, for another beautiful- yet chilly - view of the countryside from the canal!
What a nice start to the new year……..just so much that was pleasing………I know I would have made a great gawper looking at other people’s houses and gardens. Who could resist.
Hi flower, your looking well. I am in bed with a sore throat and the lurgy.Cant wait for it to warm up,enjoyed your vlogs I'm a nosy bugger and love seeing people's houses and gardens xx
Thanks Kevin, the pie looked absolutely marvellous, I'm pretty sure that Aslan's engine will always have sounded very similar to how it does now as it's a huge twin cylinder diesel pushing out shed loads of torque. Apart from the rain this has been a great cruise. Take care and all the best. Stevie
I LOVE watching your videos. The little history bits about the towns and villages that you visit are very interesting to me. I have been to the UK many times but mostly for work and didn't get many chances to get the real flavor of your beautiful country. Well done as always!
You're my #1 narrowboat vblog. Your weather there in January is just about my weather here (SW Chicago) at the end of Feb this year. Other parts of the country have had horrible winters and still are, but here it has been unseasonably warm and basically snow free. Looking forward to another season with Aslan.
When I got the notification for the new episode, I pulled it up on my phone at work, plugged in one ear bud, and hid my phone kind of under my monitor so it couldn't be seen by anyone walking by my desk...lol...I guess you could say I was excited. 😊 As always, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Maybe even a little more because I was being kind of naughty watching at work...😇
@CountryHouseGent I'm always talking about your channel to my coworkers...hopefully none of them have started watching and reading the comments or I'm in trouble! 😱
Hello Kevin nice to see you’re back in action, we love watching your adventures. I noticed you passed a statue on your travels today. It reminded me of a Led Zeppelin album cover. The stair ways to heaven.
Kevin, Although we are well into February, and almost March, I wish you a very Happy New Year, in keeping with the times of this episode. Well done, and remember, always look on the bright side when it begins to sprinkle... we can all use a shower from time to time... ROFL... Cheers from Tennessee, USA
James, please look up "Author Tim Cohen " channel on You tube. Look for his video " The fourth horseman, the anti christ named death" Please watch it and share with your brothers and sisters in your community. ✝️ 🙏
That is one of the most beautiful stretches of canal that you have ever videoed! It was a great place to celebrate the new year. Thank you for a great ride.
Perseverance paid off for you and Aslan. By the way, I thoroughly love the sound made as the engine performs its duties! The Before you know it, you’ll be posting the next one and I’ll be able to catch up with what you’ve been up to. Oh, as you came upon the third sharp turn, I said to myself there’s another one of those and then you blew the warning before I finished the thought. I got a chuckle out of my narrowboat knowledge coming to the fore. See you next time from here in Portland, Oregon.
compelling episode, Kevin!! masterful camera work under trying conditions, the element of tension (apparently present anytime one is upon the canal system and subject to myriad unforeseen events) caused by the weather maintained interest throughout...checked the amazon archives of season 1 (episode 6) and determined that you seem to have passed along the T&M in full summer that time, which could account for the unfamiliar feel of the area now...
Hi Kevin. Love your show. So relaxing and enjoyable! I was just watching this episode and you ask why Rugeley has nothing but the church left from the 14th century, well, that's because In 1709 Rugeley was hit with two disasters. One was a fire that ravaged the town (the town had been hit by a fire sixty years prior to this too, making this the second such disaster) and the other was when the Rising Brook which runs through the town broke its banks and flooded the town. Poor old Rugeley! Happy trails.
So great to see you again. I have always enjoyed your travels and watching many of your journeys over and over again. I don't get tired of watching your watching. You have the perfect demeanor, approach and views of life!! Thank You again for WA in the US.
Nothing like the sound of Aslan's motor chugging away. Thank you for the video - hope your doing well. Take care - Be Safe. From Spin in the Midwest Northwestern Illinois.
Another entertaining and enjoyable Vlog and thanks for sparing us by not filming the utter devastation of the countryside that the construction of the new HS2 (High Speed Train) has caused. So many old trees have been felled, and what for? - just to get to London 20 minutes quicker! Those moorings by Wood End Lock used to be lovely and peaceful, but not any more.
@@CountryHouseGent LOL. I'll do that! We were sitting outside the Swan pub when you expertly made the turn into the Coventry Canal. I shouted a hello but you were concentrating, and filming at the same time too 🙂
I grew up in the UK, it is full of character, but I yearned for somewhere that wasn't so cold and bleak. I don't live there anymore but do really enjoy the place vicariously through your wonderful videos. thank you.
Another relaxing episode Kevin your fountain of local knowledge as you make your way along is always helpful for those of us who do not know the area. 👍
Hello from Baltimore USA. Love your work very much. I've watched most all your videos and a few seasons on Prime. Especially appreciate the historical locales and fine scenery. Cheers.
Good morning Kevin My preferred way to start a Saturday morning is a nice cup of coffee and a new episode of Travels by Narrowboat! And as you talked about last episode, your travels do give us the much needed view into those Better vanished times Cheers 🍻 from Napa
Hi Kevin. That pie looked delicious. Thanks for sharing another varied episode. Glad there was space for you at the place you wanted to moor. Take care. Nick
The chug of Asland helps me relax
The start of my weekend, watching Aslan and Kevin, thank you.

We watch using a streaming stick in the TV so Like is not so easy.

Aaaaaaah! Three a--OOOO-gas, the chug-chug-chug of Aslan's engine, and a pint of the black stuff to top it off! Life is good! Thanks, Kevin!
Love that Ooga horn.
Love the sound of that engine.
Armitage Toilets: "200 years and still going strong." Ummm, perhaps that's a better slogan for their customers." 😂
Is that the office building featured in The Bargee with female staff waving at Harry.H.Corbett?

At least the snowman had a good grin
There is a certain synthesis between the bungalows next to the canal and the boats on it.......Life in the Slow Lane
Aslan sounds in fine form. Love that sound❤️
...that's Aslan's heartbeat. YOU will know when it sounds off.
I love the sound of Asians heartbeat soothing
