Travels by Narrowboat - "The Call of Nature" - S08E14
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 чер 2022
- The town of Stone on the Trent & Mersey Canal, has been my stop for the past 5 days. Now the weekend arrives and it's time for Aslan and I to continue onward, towards Great Haywood Junction.
After taking a brief look around Stone, we move on and head for the tiny village of Weston-Upon-Trent.
Having originally intended to do the 2 locks before Weston and then moor up, I decide on a whim to cut the journey short and instead moor for the night, at a fabulously beautiful, peaceful and rural location.
Moving on the next day, I travel through the outer edges of Weston, passing one or two gorgeous and 'exclusive' houses - later dropping down through 2 locks. At the second lock, I'm greeted by a viewer, bearing gifts.
The episode ends whilst I'm passing and admiring our great British union flag . . .

So when can we expect a new "Cooking with Kevin"episode?
Hi Tony. I'll be doing more cooking later in the year.
Cool looking forward to it
i love those videos!
I just got on with the same comment!! I love your down to earth home cooking!
Here here!
Truly the best of England. I am impressed by the kindness of strangers.
Thanks Kevin for acknowledging "Rose Of Parbold" in TBN video: "Six Things You Didn't Know About CHG." This charity provides a safe, friendly canal boating experience for people of all ages with disabilities and other special needs. Those people will have the same opportunity as anyone, for an "amazing life experience" on the UK canals. Seeing the "Rose" in your video, had a special meaning for my family. Discovered the "Rose" because of you Kevin. Thank you, "Gent of the People."
The "Rose Of Parbold" has wheelchair access throughout the boat with ramp entry.
My pleasure Bill. Always happy to give 'screen time' to worthy and hard working causes.
Had no idea about this organization. Good to know.
Hi Kevin 👋 just us 2saying hi 👋 and thanks again for very enjoyable video update 👍 den and sue keep safe say well and enjoy your lifestyle and travels 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🚌🚌🚌
2 words Kevin, Bloody Brilliant.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson stated, “The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood.” You are a true lover of nature thanks for sharing the scenes.
Thank you Debra. Fact is I look at nature and humanity as one and the same. It's just that most have lost that instinctive connection. 🙂
How appropriate for Aslan the pin & fur.
Stone looked lovely
Finishing work in 15 mins, this will be just what the doctor ordered on the London commute home. Have a good weekend Kevin!
How cool is that Rob - you'll be watching me travelling, while you're travelling. :)
1:55 When I saw the front hull of that old boat "Rebekah" being used as a sign holder, it finally dawned on me after all these years of watching narrowboat videos: It finally clicked as to why I don't like the classic decorative patterns of the old days as that has. The costume of the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when he's handing out the candy, etc
20:40 How appropriate. Lion tiller pin for a boat named Aslan.
😳
You speak excellent "cow"...😊
What a lovely vlog..what a excellent day...Love seeing the country.and hearing Aslan cruising along at 4mph...Wonderful for lifting the spirits of this elderly lady....
It creeps up on you ..you know...
Im so very happy your still on the cut....And share as well as you do as you can... Great job doing it too...always a pleasure..🥰
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH KEVIN AND ASLAN!
Hello Kevin, I’m watching your videos start to finish for the third time. I particularly like this episode as I am a Staffordshire girl born and bred though now in Devon (no canals😔). Keep well and happy and Aslan, keep on chugging!
Loving the new series . Nice and relaxed . Thanks Kevin. Saves me a fortune and time I've not currently got but can still enjoy !!
Some really grand houses Kevin and even more lovely scenery and how gd of the guy to give you the Asian tiller pin will use it and the cuddle lion too people are so kind I wish we could cruise with u but I guess we do in a way by watching your lovely vlogs tc keep well Ann nDavid👍😉
Oh and great Tom Waites impression!
Gorgeous country side. So relaxing to travel this by narrow boat.
You have a good eye for what is interesting for us to look at. 👍
I'm very pleased to hear that, Art. You're very kind, thank you.
Seriously good vlog….thanks ...all the best...Chris 🇨🇦
Lucy meets Aslan - how appropriate!
Happy weekend to you Ann
Thanks Kevin. Have a great weekend.
Wow what a beautiful canal! enjoy your break! ❣❣❣
Absolutely love that stretch of canal.
A very passable Peter Criss, but I don't blame you for not attempting a Geddy for the Tom Sawyer boat.
great fun...cheers.
Indeed, I wouldn't foist my Geddy impression on my worst enemy. 😆🤭
I wish this country would of saved their canals like you gents have, I relished your video with a couple of cheeseburgers and coffee. Thanks Kevin, cheers Charlie from Pennsylvania!
My great great (+) grandfather Charles Ebdy moved to Pittsburgh in the 1830's from London. He's buried in squirrel hill apparently. Similar surnames 👆🏻
@@jeffebdy do you know where he was originally from, what country is your background?
Hello from West Texas-- I realize this is your JOB Kevin, but I could watch this kind of scenery with the background of birds & Aslan's chugging for hours. I swear it brings my blood pressure down 😄 Enjoy your break - burnout not allowed so take as long as you need - we'll see you on your next trip. P.S. Love the gifts, perfect for Aslan.
I love that old "Buda" putt-putt! Reminds me of those old one-lung engine crabbing boats on Lake Pontchartrain from waaay back!
Nice video… beautiful locations. Thanks for sharing!
Hope all is well...All the best, Mr & Mrs Neil.....
Kevin, greetings from New Jersey and thank you for an especially engaging episode! The scenery is gorgeous and I especially enjoyed seeing the animals -- hearing your cow impression always makes me laugh. I think we'd all like to hear you sing (and play guitar) more; you certainly have an encyclopedic knowledge of genres, but no pressure. Glad to hear you're taking a little break--you deserve it. We don't want you to get burned out! Cheers!
Many thanks Pamela. Happy to hear you enjoyed watching. 🙂
Great job as usual Kevin! Thanks!
Thank you Anthony
Who would have funk it, the Trent & Mersey being so picturesque and wealthy? Thanks, Kevin delightful ride along. Cheer's
Have to agree with you Kevin that was one beautiful journey you shared with us this week. Thanks for taking the time and effort to take us along. Best wishes, Deb
it was the lyrics that made me Subscribe 🤣 thanks! 👏🏽
“And I'm movin' on, movin' on from town to town” - Ralphs. Man I do love the perpetual motion! Moovalous.
Great vlog Kevin , thanks for sharing 👍
Good stuff 👏
thanks Kevin for another relaxing vlog, keep up the good work
Thank you Roger.
Great work, Kevin.
I used to look forward to a Friday night out, now it’s a Friday night (or Saturday or Sunday) in to watch TBN! With a cheeky ale, of course 😉🍺👍🏻😎
Very happy to provide some Friday night 'entertainment' Pete. Same for me, in my younger days nothing beat a great night out (except feeling ill the following morning). Now I much prefer an early night, a cuppa and a favourite youtube channel or ten. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent Spot on Kevin. And big respect for your free spirit life and ideology pal. It’s nice see 😊 Safe passage onward.
Best wishes to you as well, Pete.
Almost as relaxing as actually being there.
I hope you understand the amount of envy you cause those cows to have when you mooo at them. I'm sure they're thinking: "Hey! Why does THAT cow get to have a narrowboat?!"
Crikey Kev you can only have been just ahead of us going down the T&M - we were looking out to say hello but you obviously, wisely, outran us 😀
9:52 " there's no substitute for a bit of clean, fresh air, greenery, and the sounds of Nature"...accompanied by the lovely view of an Amazon delivery van speeding by on the roadway!
Wow! This was the perfect balm for a rather stressful Friday. I think I watched your whole video with a smile. I particularly liked the cow who yelled something cheeky back at you as you were sailing away. Thanks for working so hard to make all of our Friday afternoons peaceful and pleasant. Now it’s your turn. Enjoy Great Haywood 😌
Drink one for me Kevin ice cold 🧊 thanks for the video. Stay safe
Haven't seen this one yet as my wife and I just noticed you are back on and we're catching up on the videos. Always enjoy watching them! - Massachusetts, USA
Another narrowboat YT once said there was a section of canals where you can go 70+miles without a lock. That would be for me. I am lazy.
Lovely looking bit of canal that Kevin. I have lived outside of England going on 23 years now and have been fortunate to have lived in several beautiful countries, Canada, far north of Japan, southern India and now Austria and can say with experience that the UK’s landscape is almost unique ( almost as Ireland is very similar) and in the countryside very beautiful still thank goodness!
I always tell friends in the countries I have lived, spend one day only in London then go out and explore the UK’s countryside and small towns and villages as they are far more interesting and beautiful than London could ever be.
All the ones who have done so have come back raving about the countryside and to a person said one day in London was more than enough and that when they will go back they will avoid it like the plague!
As to silence, I am so lucky living in the Vienna woods and by the Danube as at night it is absolutely silent, people in small villages in Austria tend to not be out late I have found.
That was an amazingly beautiful stretch of canal. Thanks Kevin for sharing.
It's great to have your vids back on a regular basis Kevin! I always look forward to some quiet and peaceful time with you and Aslan when I see that notification!
I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery in this episode. Speaking in "UA-cam time," I hope that you have some enjoyable days off.
Cheers for watching 🙂
Enjoyed
Great vlog Kevin, been passed that pub in Stone many a times on the road to and from Glossop 😍
Beautiful canal. Enjoy your break. Be safe we want you back on the job.
Hi Kevin! The scenery on the Trent& Mersey is truly stunning.
Wide White Top - the Union Jack looked properly hoisted to me :)
Very enjoyable, lovely weather, beautiful scenery, birds singing. What more can one want. Loved the town Stone. We all need a break sometimes, so enjoy! 🦁🙂
Thanks Kev, take care mate.
Thank kevin, makes our family day watching your videos. Such a beautiful area.
Beautiful vlog. Enjoy your break. We be looking forward to your return.🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
thank you mr.shelley for providing us with a peaceful and serene video ,we loved it. cheers ; ]
Hi Kevin. Thanks for another episode of Travels By Narrow Boat. My wife and I enjoy them all, as we are avid boaters, albeit a different type of boating on Lake Michigan. We also enjoy small lakes, rivers, and canals. One suggestion for you as far as a generator. I'm not sure what your power needs are, but there are some very quiet inverter generators around 2000 watts to 2500 watts, that weigh about 50 lbs. We have a 3500 watt inverter generator sold by Harbor Freight we use for our camper, which is very quiet, weighing about a 100 lbs. There are various makes, Honda being the most expensive, but very good. There are many youtubes comparing and rating these inverter generators. They are much safer for electronics as well, because they maintain a constant sine wave. .
Hello Kevin. That was a really great video. I can’t blame you for waxing lyrical, the scenery was superb. I did enjoy seeing the contented sheep, lambs, geese, swans and ducks. And the birdsong too. Stone looked like an interesting town, but too much rush, rush, rush! I much prefer your quieter way of life. Enjoy your rest. Hope to see you cooking again in one of your videos. Cheers and love for now.
Hi Kevin! Hope you have had a great week! I have saved this to watch this evening when I get home from work! I love Friday's ❤Best to you from Tam and Mike in Oklahoma, USA!!
Have a great weekend Tam and hope you enjoy. :)
Sunshine, beautiful scenery, & some wonderfully sung Kiss!! Well done, once again! Thanks for taking us along!
Cheers for that 😁 I tried to capture Peter Criss's gravelly tones. 😄
Oh, Kevin, old son, you just made my week! Thanks a mill for these lovely videos. The English countryside is sans pareil as the Fwoggies would say.
That is GORGEOUS there. Looks like Heaven or a dream land. Wow! I will never see it in real life, so bless you for your time, dear Kevin 🙏.
~Leilani
Another marvellous episode Kevin. I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos, so thanks v. much.
Well, I've immediately time travelled from your Living Alone Doesn't Have To Be Lonely (on a narrowboat or anywhere) . . . in 2018 to present Episode and am so pleased to see that you are still enjoying it five years later. I can only dream... Good luck!

Thank you Graham. Indeed, I can say with absolute confidence that buying Aslan was the best move I could've made. 🙂
Afternoon Kevin " our sunshine" thanks for the video, a treat as always, dollying along the canal, slower pace than "everyday" life, countryside, bird song, peacefulness and Kevin......PERFICK COMBINATION. Glad to hear your taking a break, as much as we are all hungry for more of your videos, we are not going anywhere. We have the ease and pleasure to just relax in our comfy chair, cuppa to hand and drift along with you. You are the one doing all the work, looking for content and editing, which all takes time out of your daily life as a LIVEABOARD. I would hate to think it all becomes too much and you don't enjoy the lifestyle you have chosen. You take time Kevin, FREEDOM OF TIME, is something most people crave yet seldom find. Make sure you keep that FREEDOM for you and enjoy this beautiful country we are lucky to live in. Keep smiling, keep safe and keep travelling. All the best Flossy & Jan x
Many thanks Flossy and Jan, I'm always delighted to read your appreciative comments. Thank you and thanks for watching.
Thank you Kevin, I paused the video to see what you ment about the “Flag being up side down” and I just noticed that there is a difference 😄
Currently working my way through series 8 (for some reason I stopped watching at the end of S7)
It's like meeting up with two old friends again - looking forward to catching up with the rest of the videos including S9. All the best.....
Hello from North Carolina USA. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching your travels over the past few years! Love seeing the beautiful countryside.
You're very welcome Steve and thank you for watching. 🙂
Here i am a few days late...What a wonderful little show around of Stone...I do like looking in on all the towns near the canals...Beautiful area ..lovely countryside...You never fail to please your audience...I love the sound of nature and always enjoy Aslan chugging along at 4mph...
Lovely Countryside video..and your company is always a pleasure...Thanks Kevin!! So very much...😊
Good evening Susan. Agreed Stone is a characterful town, with so much canal industrial history and it's always lovely to hear that my regular viewers have particularly enjoyed a video. It is truly appreciated amd I mean that. 🙂
such a peaceful installment!! beautiful green country vistas, posh-looking homes, augmented by Aslan's powerplant ticking along -- have to agree with your statement that this was some of the most picturesque scenery you've shown us -- don't blame you for wanting to take a rest, it's an ongoing indulgence for an old-timer like me (slightly older than the Petter McLaren B2 ) -- looking forward to next week's post...
Very happy to hear you enjoyed the vid Larry. Yes, all work and no play, as they say. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent of course, would like to see some more cooking content, but all in good time...
Brilllllliant Kevin - such good medicine for the soul - thanks for sharing 👍
Hi Kevin 👋hope your well and life is good 👍 xx
Hello Tracy. Yes all is very well, thank you. Have a goodun
It is difficult, no, imPOSSible to know the time that passes on the canal side when following a narrowboat channel. When you moor up and we see you set your mooring pins, you could moor up for a week, a couple of days or 15 minutes. Occasionally we can rule out 15min if the sky is significantly different but that is the only solid clue we have. To hear you say you have been working the canal(s) for 7days a week is mind boggling! The first reason that it is baffling is because there is no rush (to my knowledge) to be anywhere within a certain amount of time. Why push yourself? Somewhere while following you around the UK, I got old. Not sure how it happened. So I am outside the window of pushing and spend what time I am not doing something by doing nothing. You have a few decades yet, before you realize the benefits of the occasional break. In the meantime, the occasional break insures that you have the ability to continue your videos for many years. Hopefully, I will still be watching your videos. GOD willing, we will both be around another 30+ years!
How incredibly thoughtful of that gentleman to pick up a replica of Aslan’s namesake and even more that he was able to locate and then decided to purchase that tiller pin. You touch so many hearts, Kevin, and what a generous and thoughtful man!
Great video! I hope your break doesn’t keep you off UA-cam too long but however long you are away, keep well, enjoy your time off and I hope you spot something that gives you joy at least twice each day. Ta!
love the KISS reference!
Lovely cruise, some great scenery and some fabulous architecture. A viewing pleasure.
That was some great scenery and listening to that Petter Maclaren is so relaxing to the ears😊 the tiller pin was very appropriate for Aslan
Hi Kevin. I’m really enjoying the countryside around Stone. It certainly looks like a nice place to live. Hope you did manage to take a break for a while. Take care. Nick
Love the cruise everything is pretty and green 😊 hope you have a wonderful break and relax.. thank you 😊🤩..
my best you tuber´s make breaks 😭, i understand you and hope you going to do more vlogs in the future , take care 👍for your vlogs
Just watching your series on Prime. “Is there such a thing as a lady cave?” Pahahaha. Yes. Yes there is ;)
Yes I don't know what came over me that day, Julie. What was I thinking. Too much summer air, possibly. 😆
That flag was the right way up. Great vid as always, Kevin, I always look forward to the notification.
I think he was just trying to make people (non-Brits) look to see the difference.
That was just a total joy to watch. Many thanks for all your efforts to get your videos to us, they are so relaxing.
Hey Kevin, Bummer of a life style, But hey someone has to do it! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
What a lovely stretch of the canal, and all that wildlife too. Hope you definitely have taken time to take a break and enjoy your time. Don’t work too hard on the videos. Thank you again 😊
Another enjoyable cruise.
It also annoys me when our union flag is flown upside down. Although in this case the flag was the right way up. (The side nearest the mast should have the wider white stripe on top).
Keep up the great work.
Me old Dad taught me 'broad white stripe against the flag pole' and yes this flag is indeed up the right way. If flown upside down I believe it indicates you are in distress!
I just discovered you on Amazon prime video, you don't look any older than 5 years ago and i can see you are definitely more relaxed, chilled and at peace with life - a real inspiration, thank you!
Many thanks for that and welcome aboard. Yes it's even surprising to me. I often wonder where I'd be now, if I hadn't chosen to take the plunge. 🤔
lovely episode, and what a great guy who handed you the lion tiller pin and stuffed lion, just the nicest people out there sometimes
I knew you would enjoy the trip down from Stone. It's a lovely area to travel through. I have have had many a day enjoying the views and peacefulness of the countryside. Glad to see you enjoying the journey. Many thanks for this week's installment as it reminds me of such tranquil days. A joy to watch as always, and may your travels continue. Best of luck and cheers to you. Sean.
Beautiful countryside Kevin! Thank you for the much needed break from reality!
Thank you for a really lovely vlog, it was so picturesque and Stone was just has we remember a Market Town…Well done🙏✝️🙏
Great vlog Kevin. I look forward to watching each and every one. I’ve binge watched all of them. Keep them coming. Your personality and presentation is superb!
Cheers for watching, Ron. 🙂
Hi Come on Kevin the flag was the correct way up < Wide white band to the Top > . I remember drinking Russian Stout it came in Half pint or Nips 1/3 of a pint, never Pints . I was Very Ill. !!!!!!???? Cheers
Greetings from across the pond! We have been watching since you began on UA-cam. I couldn't help but notice that when you pass other boaters that are traveling in your opposite direction you are opposite the motorway travel.
Good evening Brian and cheers for watching and following. Passing on the right is an international agreement for all vessels. Avoids the confusion of trying to figure out which side for which waters. 🙂
I do like the “tours of the town “ and the inside of the shops and such. Every day hum drum for you but new and exciting for me.
Yes it's easy for me to take for granted the everyday hum drum, as you say Brian. I'll endeavour to include more of the 'ordinary' stuff. 🙂
Another fun ride and great video!
Thanks Kevin!
👍👍👍👊😎
I love when you show walking around towns and villages.
What do you think if you should have dog for a walk
How fitting for Asland to have a lion tiller pin.
I can't think of a smart aleck remark for this episode but it was just exactly perfect and made my Friday. Thanks!
Well I was originally going to call it 'A' Call of Nature, but thought that might be taking the p**s. 😉😆
