When HS2 began devastating the woodland some protesters camped up in the trees. HS2 employed a security company and they stopped friends getting in there from the road, to give them food and drink. So what did they do? They brought a narrowboat along the canal and got the food to them that way. Brilliant and fair play to them.
Well not exactly brilliant! This nonsense, and it’s delays, are part of the cause of the soaring costs. The security companies should receive NO payment because they did not meet their targets and goals, by not having enough brains to foresee that. If some Dooley with a barge can think of it, surely some company with a map can think of it and whack a big barbed wire electric fence up before it happens. I know change is difficult for some people, but the fact is if we don’t do this, our infrastructure will be strangled for future generations.
That's fantastic, but if they bring in this 15 minute commute thing like in Oxford, who will be able to use this train? You are only allowed so many trips out of your area, then you have to pay, and it's big buck's. They should put things right before destroying everything else. Take care stay safe XXX

The main road you passed under and then alongside, is the busy A38 trunk road and named Rykneld St because it’s an old Roman Rd and that was its name.

Loving this new season Kev and that bloody HS2 is a right blot on the landscape there and elsewhere. I can’t for the life of me see why they needed that lovely lock cottage at Woodend. Another piece of canal history being lost
The cottage will be re-inhabited and so will the moorings when HS2 have finished devastating the adjacent land. It's because the HS2 building work is preventing access from the road that is the reason they aren't currently in use.
State side politics has had me in such a bad mood all day that I desperately needed a smile. Asland & Kevin have done the trick. One of the main reasons I retired on my boat was to get away from drama & politics. But, alas, I must have been dreaming. So thank you for much needed smile and a big exhale of relaxation

Hi Kevin! Another enjoyable visit to the English countryside. Thank you! I watched at work again...lol...but I wasn't too stealthy today. It's the slow season in my line of work and "the powers that be" took this Friday off. My kids and grandchildren are all in town this weekend, so this afternoon was my only chance for days! I hope you have a lovely week! March is definitely a lion here, hope it's better there.
The cottage at Wood End Lock was a rented property and the lady who lived there also looked after the moorings and landscaped the land around the lock with flowers and plants. She was a cabinet maker/carpenter and ran her business from an outbuilding behind the cottage. She’d been there for years and was devastated when she had to move out. The cottage will be re-let or sold once the HS2 work finishes.

Hi Kevin, I loved the sweetie boat. It was a pity about the man with the cough, but you were probably wise to avoid any germs flying about! Aslan is sounding in fine fettle. As you are too. The HS2 seems to be a colossal waste of money and has also ruined some wonderful landscape and woodland. Sigh. 😒
What more can you say ? Another CHG video, to sit back and enjoy, even if the weather was not the kindest ! What a SUPER Sweet Shoppe boat, ......... No, I really mustn't, I'm supposed to be losing weight, NOT putting it on ! Such a variety of sweet comestibles ! Lub dub dub dub ! Take care ! Stu xx
Hey, Kevin, how do you do it? Everything sparkles through your magic lens. Mind you, that pub lacked life; perhaps your coughing friend cleared it of other patrons. I took in some Oxford towpaths on my cycle ride today, which is a bit dippy (or slippy) in late winter, and it was all rather drab. Got to Hawkesbury Junction for lunch - it was dead. Decided to go a little way up the Coventry and before I knew it reached a little arm - actually the start of the Ashby - it’s teeny! Enough of that after a couple of miles - got back on the road, which is a treat after towpaths. It was nice to return to your new episode, for which many thanks.

Hope you enjoy, Tam.
None like your first time down the river that was epic!
Love the video as always. We used to drink in the mucky duck 40 years ago so bought back some happy memories. Look forward to next videos of this section of canal,
Cheers, Steve&Wen
Thanks Steve and Wen. Hope you liked what they've done with the interior. Had a complete spruce up recently and look to have restored much of it's original character and 'warmth'.
That sounds something out of the Godfather, an offer you can't refuse😂😂
It makes you wonder.
that reminds me of a quip i heard from a more libertarian person once... Q: what is the difference between government and organized crime? A: nothing. ;/
Another pleasant stroll ( so to speak) along the canal. Thanks Kev!
Good day Kevin, from Ohio
Hi Kevin, I loved the sweetie boat. It was a pity about the man with the cough, but you were probably wise to avoid any germs flying about! Aslan is sounding in fine fettle. As you are too. The HS2 seems to be a colossal waste of money and has also ruined some wonderful landscape and woodland. Sigh. 😒
Perfect weather! You sound in good fettle ... 😃
Cheers Karen. Yes, managing to keep the old pecker up.
Great viewing as always... so relaxing too..
Another government boondoggle apparently. On a happier note, your videos always make me feel better. Thank you for posting.
By the time it's completed people will be using other types of transportation.
Take care !
Stu xx
Yes, it was like an oasis of sugary distractions, a type 2 tunnel to brain fade, and so on. :D
That engine sound is similar to a narrow gauge loco at a heritage railway I used to work at!
love the intro song! i wish you would play more!!
Great stuff!
Thanks!
Very kind Lee. Many thanks indeed. 🙂
Happy belated birthday, Kev. I've still got a few years on you.
Many thanks Mitch. Time is a relentless master.
Thank you for sharing, God Father of the Canals
Nice nice
Thanks for the ride, my friend
You're welcome Frank.
