In this episode of my podcast, I had the honor and the pleasure of talking with one of today`s time philosopher I admire the most: Dr. Michael Huemer (University of Colorado Boulder). He is an ethical intuitionist in metaethics, stance which claims moral properties, like goodness, cannot be explained with or reduced to natural terms or properties, and therefore have to be known by intuition. He defends the principle of Phenomenal Conservatism in Epistemology, according to which one should not be skeptic about an appearance of something unless he has a good reason to be. Dr. Huemer is also famous for his arguments for souls and reincarnation and for his libertarian political views, defended in his book "The problem of political authority", where he argues there has never really been a Social Contract and the government`s authority is a myth. In this deep conversation, we explore these bold positions and other important themes, such as why time has to be infinite in both directions, the problem with Augustine`s account of evil, the problems with Tomist philosophers, why God cannot have been the creator of time and morality, the nature of beauty, and the nature of ethical intuitions.
