  • How to Setup IP Cameras on Roku TV: I am pretty excited for this Video. I have had three (soon to be four) Foscam IP cameras set up with a Synology Surveillance center for about 9 months now and the set up has been fantastic. They are wireless cameras recording 24/7 and storing all information to my Synology box which has two RAID 1 mirrors 3.6TB SATA drives.
    The software on the Roku that I am using is the IP CAMERA VIEWER PRO. The Pro version is ($5 USD) but there is a free version as well. I would recommend using the free version to make sure your individual cameras are supported.
    It took me a while to figure out the correct MPEG link to use with my Foscam cameras. I would recommend experimenting a bit with your cameras to figure out the correct link. Also in the video, there are a few other suggestions.
    /cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?usr=UserName&pwd=FakePassword&cmd=snapPicture2
    I tried to get the ONVIF to work with my Foscams but was unable to. If you are able to get this working with your particular cameras, set up might be even easier.
    COnfig
    Once the cameras are set up with Synology and configured with the Roku app, you can then add them to any TV where you have a Roku streaming device. For the bedroom TV, I have this application as the screensaver so when the TV is idle, the front camera shows as the screensaver. The Synology system also has a variety of clients including the Windows Client (shown below), IOS, Android and also has EASY integration with Home Assistant.

    I realize this is an old video but the app seems the same today. Can you clarify if the port the App is asking for is the RTSP port (554) , the Data port , the websocket port or the HTTP port (pretty sure it isn't this one)? I've tried multiple ways and can't get anything out of it. Discover doesn't work and I've tried using the "Stream URL" and that won't work either

    • @vCloudInfo
      @vCloudInfo  Місяць тому +1

      After revisiting this for about 2 hours last night, IP Camera viewer (and the Roku) only support HLS streams and really old ones at that. The stream URL needs to be an HLS stream (no RTSP unfortunately) or a snapshot stream that it can pick up. I am working on a solution now to help get my Frigate streams into the Roku that once I have nailed down, I'll post a new video on it. So short answer is 'The HTTP port is your best bet'.

      If it is RSTP, it should work. But the cameras need to be RSTP compatible.

    I have meshare/zmodo cams that I currently can view wirelessly through their iPhone app... trying to see if I can view them on my Roku.. I’ve dl’d Rokus IP cam viewer & trying to connect but not having any luck.. I’m also not that familiar with all of the tech-y, ip, configuration, etc kind of lingo... lol.... it asks for the IP address of the camera (not sure what that may be) and also the TP port (no clue).. tried googling how to find that out and it just gets more confusing, plus I’m a little leary on messing around with internet code stuff when I’m clueless...... any ideas/helpful info you could give me would be great!! :)

    • @vCloudInfo
      @vCloudInfo  4 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately not all cameras are valid IP cameras. it's possible your cameras do not support RTSP output. That would make it tricky to get this to work. Try googling your camera model and RTSP.

    Do you know any workarounds to get nightowl x on roku? The dvr uses it's own subnet so cameras arent viewable on my LAN. The DVR is, but the cameras run on a network within the DVR (170.20.14.*)

      Sorry Jim, I don't. I use a Synology for all my Camera DVR stuff and it uses standard RSTP for viewing on other devices.

    Do you need a Synology server and the Home Assistant to view cameras via IP Camera Viewer Pro? I'm hoping to set up cameras in a livestock barn - recording isn't important at all for what I hope to accomplish - just want to be able to view live feeds. POE cameras would be connected (ethernet) to a switch at the barn, with the switch also connected to a wireless bridge to the house. The house and barn are on the same LAN subnet.

    • @vCloudInfo

      No. No synology needed. Just cameras that support RTSP feeds.

      @vCloudInfo  5 років тому +2

      The IP Camera Viewer has an interesting option for Picture in Picture using a Pi. I haven't explored that since the split screen stuff is sufficient. The Synology stuff is not on the cheap side but it works really well. The dang camera licenses are the biggest cost really. But I'm happy to not have a monthly cloud cost. That was the justification for price. Bigger up front cost instead of bleeding me dry month to month with cloud costs.

    Most dvr/nvr units should have a "channel zero" stream that is a single stream of all your cameras in split screen. in theory you should be able to set that up as one of your cameras in the app and use it for the screensaver if you really wanted a 4 way view.. it's not ideal, as it only supports 4 cameras to begin with, and I'd hate to eat up one of them with a redundant split screen... I'm gonna download this app tonight and I'll try it out to see if I can make it work.

      @@vCloudInfo I haven't gotten that far yet.
      I did set it up last night on both roku units in my house. Couple things, if you're going to setup 4 cameras and type in all those ips and ports, and credentials, download the official Roku remote app for your phone so you can use the on screen keyboard. I did the first one with the regular roku remote and was about to say screw even doing the second one last night but then remembered the app and the onscreen keyboard makes it a snap.
      So in a matter of 20-30 minutes I had both rokus setup.. everything was working perfectly, then my internet went out for about an hour during a storm last night and since then, neither roku is connecting to the cams. They're still up and on the DVR and I can see them from the phone app, so I'll have to poke at it again this morning and see what's up.

    Plse. plse. answer this if you can Carlo since I am unable to contact the developer or find the answers by searching the web: I have the Amcrest ProHD camera which I purchased because I knew that it would work with IP Camera Viewer on Roku. It does - but without any audio on Roku, which is essential for me. I am unable to find out if it is designed that way or if it is supposed to have audio but something is wrong with my setup. Also, I am unable to find out if the PRO version would be any different. Finally, I am unable to find out if enabling audio would require software and/or tweaks that go beyond the technical abilities of the average user, which I certainly am one (at best). Can you shed any light on this? I'll be grateful.

    Thanks for the vid and info. Not to bust balls but I think you definitely need to find a more secure power option. Cameras systems are worthless if a thief can just unplug the camera before breaking in. Worst case scenario you could cover outlets with electrical boxes and pipe up to the cams. I always run pipe if wires are low enough to be cut easily, and it also gives it a professional clean look.

    • @vCloudInfo
      @vCloudInfo  4 роки тому +2

      Agreed. TBH though, these are more of a 'Keep an eye on the kids' kind of camera. Our front and back camera are plugged into the eves outlets. Running pipe is a GREAT suggestion. It'll better protect against the elements as well. I'm going to put it on my list. Also on the list is Computer vision trailing to tell if the wooden gates are open or closed. It's obvious you've spent a lot of time and effort putting this out for the masses, even though many negative-nelly keyboard warriors just seem to want to ding you about having outdoor plug-in cams, totally missing the point of this video. I have outdoor wireless Foscam's as well, but they're plugged so high it would take a good sized ladder to reach the plug, at which point another cam would be recording the action. But you can't tell a "know it all" anything. Spreading negativity is their forte'.
    I'm having a dickens of a time connecting my Foscam's to the Roku IP Camera app, but hopefully I've narrowed it down to the streaming URL to concentrate on. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

      Thank you for the positivity. And yes. YOU understand that this video is really about the ROKU app. :). I do have a task to run POE cables now that it’s winter time in Florida. :). Good luck figuring out the URL. I just added my WYZE doorbell to the Roku so I am going to make a video on that as well soon.

I found the video, along with all of the information within, to be very helpful, as well as, super informative. So, with that being said, could it have possibly been that you, yourself, just was NOT paying attention while the video was playing??? Perhaps you were distracted by something and you might have missed an important part of the video??? Just a thought. Also just keep in mind that, maybe next time, instead of “wasting” even more of your precious time, that you evidently have so little of, with a condescending and ignorant comment, you should be using that time to do more research on whatever it is that you didn’t get from whatever it is you clicked on the first time!?!?!? Just my 2 cents… but, then again, you probably don’t need it because clearly you are already rich with your very own knowledge.🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂💯💯💯
