    No bad tunes with Rainbow. Evolved with their different frontmen. Ritchie is a legend.
    “Man on the Silver Mountain” with Dio is a rocker.

    I love every era of Rainbow. One of my favorite bands. Of course, this was Ritchie Blackmore's band (original guitarist from Deep Purple). He called all the shots. Heavier Rainbow songs from the Dio era: Stargazer, Kill the King, Tarot Woman, Sixteenth Century Greensleeves. There are more, of course. Dio left because Ritchie wanted to move to a more radio friendly style. Ritchie succeeded, and so did Dio by being the replacement for Ozzy in Sabbath. Other good songs with Graham Bonnet: All Night Long, Lost in Hollywood. More great songs with Joe: 'Death Alley Driver' is faster and heavier. Other good ones are: I Surrender, Miss Mistreated, Can't Let You Go, Jealous Lover, Desperate Heart, Street of Dreams.

    • @headlibrarian1996
      @headlibrarian1996 Рік тому

      And then Sabbath fired Dio two years later :(. They managed to push out Ray Gillen after only a few months too, and re-recorded his tracks. Given what I've heard on the Badlands albums he would have been far superior to Tony Martin, though I suppose he would have been forced to leave the band anyway due to the health issues that eventually killed him. So dysfunctional on the part of Sabbath.

    A nice power ballad with all pyrotecnics coming from Ritchie`s guitar and of course, the blasting snare/ hi hat/ bass drum patterns with Bobby Rondinelli. Sounds like Deep Purple in some cases, speaking about the guitar riffs and solo work. Another Purple musician here, the one and only Mr Roger Glover. There`s nothing left to say, guys.

    Rainbow tried to adjust to the sound of the 80s hard rock stars in that decade, which I honestly think they did succesfully, and for that purpose a couple of new singers with that style were hired. Besides, there was this guy, Russell Ballard who composed quite an array of hits of which Rainbow got great benefit with tunes like: ’Since You’ve Been Gone' and 'I Surrender'. Great songs! ... BTW, Kiss's Ace Frehley also had his Ballard moment with "New York Groove", also worth checking out

The song "Ariel" is great song from his vocal era with Rainbow. My favorite era will remain with Ronnie James Dio on vocals with songs like "Stargazer" (in my opinion their very best song), "Catch the Rainbow" and "Temple of the King" being other epic songs. Where do you live? I'm only asking because in Europe and Japan, Ritchie (note the spelling) is one of the most famous guitar players who ever existed. It's only in the US that this is not the case. By European standards, it's probably just Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton that supercedes him in fame and influence. Eddie Van Halen is maybe, but not definitely, up there alongside him and someone like Jimmy Page is not even a blip on the radar in comparison.

      @stevenfellows1633 Рік тому

      @@erikthompson619 Was originally from the UK so grew up with the "British metal scene". My comment more directed to those top guitar lists you see which mostly seem to bypass Blackmore for guitarists from other more "trendy" rock bands. Guess a lot of those lists are American generated and by younger people. While guitarists on those lists certainly merit praise few have Blackmores distinctive style and blues/classical influences. Interestingly though readers of "Guitar world" had two of Blackmores solos (while with Deep Purple) among the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of all time. ("Highway Star" ranked 19th, and "Lazy" ranked 74th). "Guitar" magazine also ranked at 16 his solo on "Child in Time" in a 1998 Guitarist magazine readers poll of Top 100 Guitar Solos of All-Time.

    Good Rainbow ballad. For some great rockin' Rainbow go back to the first album with Dio singing Man On The Silver Mountain. Another one to check out is All Night Long with Graham Bonnet singing.

    Joe Lynn Turner is one of the great guys in Rock & Roll. Saw him interviewed recently on the Real Music Observer on YT. very down to earth guy who’s very aware about the state of affairs of the world. His most recent album demonstrates this very powerfully.

    A truly underated harder tune with Joe Lynn Turner would be Death Alley Driver. It touches back upon Blackmore and Glover's Deep Purple days in a similar style to Highway Star. Another fun tune is their live-version of Spotlight Kid with JLT from their Finyl Vinyl album. Oh and as for lead singers, Rainbow is still going on and is on their 5th lead vocalist. Doogie White was the 4th and Ronnie Romero is the 5th and current. There's not a bad lead vocalist in the bunch.

    I have read that Ritchie Blackmore wanted Rainbow to have hit singles, which is why he hired Joe Lynn Turner.
    It didn‘t work so well. This hit #1 on the Rock chart, but only #40 overall. When the next lead single ("Street of Dreams") couldn‘t even do that, despite a lot of MTV airplay, Ritchie was open to getting Deep Purple back together.
    He still liked JLT, however. As I mentioned on the "Burn" reaction, when Ritchie fired Ian Gillan from DP (again), he hired Joe Lynn to replace Ian.
    (My flow is showing me that Glenn Hughes sang "Burn" literally tonight in Bratislavia. Slovakian fans work fast, it appears. Have to check that one next.)
    Plenty of Dio-era Rainbow to hit- "Man on the Silver mountain", "Stargazer", "Kill the King", "Long Live Rock N Roll" (I sort of recall a few of these. If you did the reaction and its blocked, that is different, obviosly)

      Rainbow was Album-oriented rock, getting a lot of airplay in the US on AOR radio stations. "Street of Dreams" hit #3 on the Rock Albums & Top Tracks chart. Other US AOR hits were "Jealous Lover" and "I Surrender", the latter reaching #3 in the UK. "All Night Long" and "Since You Been Gone" were big hits in the UK Top 10.

    Great reaction. Rainbow was formed by legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore after he left Deep Purple. Some of the rockiest Rainbow songs are those where Blackmore's guitar riffs or solos seem to underpin the structure of the song. Examples are "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Stargazer", and "L.A. Connection" (all three with Ronnie James Dio); and "All Night Long" (with Graham Bonnet).

    Saw them in concert for this tour. Great line up. They sounded great LIVE. MTV used to show a LIVE concert of this tour years ago too. Ritchie Blackmore - guitar & Roger Glover - bass, are both from Deep Purple.
