10 second PB while holding up a camera for a fair bit of the race, as well as jet lagged from the time difference, and also eating foods you’ve never ate before, that’s impressive. Congrats.
Congratulations for PB. Because PB is PB ;) For the majority, the sub2:10 runners will be never in reach and it is why I think you and couple more faster guys are such an inspiration for us.
@@Bulldogrunner Yeah I know :/. I am not the slowest guy as well but what I meant, that people have more connection to ordinary guy than to All-Star runners and Bens evolvement in last years can give you a better push than their progress ;)
Great run! Epic video! Japan is one def one of the places in the world where no matter the weather (even if it’s so gloomy) you just feel like every moment is such an occasion and attached to so much history. Beautiful!
Awesome run mate. In the nicest way possible I know you’ve got much quicker in you, easy sub 2:20 this year (you heard it here first). Keep smashing it lad! Also loving the pod xx
Cheers Cole! 2:20 is certainly still a goal but the marathon is a humbling distance. Give me a few years to master it and I’m sure I’ll be closer to 2:15 at max potential. Looking forward to the next. There bloody addictive 😂
Amazing Ben! The pace your running is mind boggling whilst filming, just incredible. Watching this as I’m running in 2025, it fills my heart with joy that I get to run in Japan, seeing this video is awesome, all the best for your next endeavour 🚀
The fact that you were able to run that fast for that long while holding a camera is absurdly good. The only thing in the Osaka Marathon that beats that is Takanobu Minoshima running the entire marathon wearing traditional Japanese sandals (made of wood)
The filming, solo in the morning of the race must have been so hard. So tempting to sack it off. Amazing work commitment. Thanks for the filming and taking us along.
Fantastic Ben. Well done! Amazing result given all the travel, sponsor / media time and jet lag. Really enjoyed the vlog = combination of travel vlog and race vlog. Love it👌
Your the man Ben! I just ran my first sub 21 5k and ever since I saw your video when you went from 22 minutes to 15 I've been chasing it! Keep killing it Ben :)
Congratulations Ben, you put in a hell of a time and to get a PB that makes it all the more sweeter! I love how candid you are before the race showing your preparation and some of the challenges that you're mentally preparing for, it's a great help for amateurs to get an idea what it is like to run a major marathon. I think as Tom said, you are exactly the same person from Tube, to Pod, to in person so don't change man and keep it up!
My summary of your Asia adventure. You looked and sounded very nervous on the morning of your race. Absolutely smashed a PB at a world marathon major on a different continent is amazing. You’re definitely living a dream and well deserved. I look forward to seeing what the rest of 2023 has in store for you.
Ben, just brilliant content of your trip to Japan. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Jet lag def put paid to bigger pb. The Japanese music just made it even better. Well done in brilliant videos
Ben I love watching your channel, I've been on a bit of a couch to marathon adventure over 10 months myself. My race is on May 7th here in Toronto Canada. My training was going well I had a bit of an ambitious goal of sub 4 hours. Doing ~300km monthly for mileage. I've had to back off in February due to bad weather and fatherly responsibility while my in laws and kids were sick. I clocked in just 100km in February and with 9 weeks out I'm feeling like sub 4 is just unobtainable for me for this race. I'm not overly obsessed with the goal and I have nothing riding on this race other than my personal pride. No one even knows I entered this race. But the training is something that I have without questioned loved. There's no other repeated task I've willingly woke up at 4am for. (Minus wife falling into labor). And there's this sense of owing it to my training. It's been incredibly frustrating with weather sporting 50+km winds and -10c temperatures. Of course as runners we make due. Your Osaka videos have been giving me some really good vibes leading up to your race. I'm really nervous about summoning my "race level intensity" it looks so impossible for me right now in my winter training kit. But it's easy to forget what a huge difference race day kit makes you feel. I love your inspire motto, it really resembles the spirit of running. The outright action of chasing dreams. Thanks for sharing your journey, even though we share our workouts on strava no one truly knows your day to day battles. It gives us all a reminder, someone else is thinking the same thing and whatever the skill level whether you consider what you're doing a success or failure the satisfaction is in getting it done.
Thank you, Ben! Your videos and progress give me motivation and hope that I will resume my training someday when the war will be won in my country and the Ukrainian runners with all their gratitude would visit races in those beautiful countries that help us at the moment. I planned to run 4/5 Superhalfs in 2022 and beat my 1:19 PB but... For now - I am glad about your achievements) Great video!
I saw you at the start of the race. You were a few rows in front and I noticed you were doing some filming. I wanted to say hi but it was a bit too far. Anyways congrats on the PB! It was a nice day out there.
Awesome job! Inspiring run and I’ve enjoyed watching the entire process leading up to it. Looking forward to hearing more details of the race and the shoe review.
Thank Ben for great atmosphere in the race, Could you share some key of your training, eg. key workouts, mileage, intensity distribution, and typical training weeks also, to break sub 2:30 marathon. :)
Brilliant getting a pb, your pacing sounded far more intuitive based on how felt in your head than relying on watch stats. Well done on trusting your own emotions rather than the watch. Massive Congratulations!
Wow what a Rollercoaster ! 🎢 I was so entertained I forgot to comment first! . Amazing Experience for sure love how they picked you off the finish line . . Excellent video Benji-chan Sugoi!
Congrats Ben! I was so happy to see you got a great race. Looks like the crowd atmosphere is a bit more subdued compared to other races. Definitely a different cultural vibe. I loved seeing Sarah as well in the video. I am a big fan of the Running Channel. You put in a lot of hard work and I am glad to see you get a good result. I love your production on this too -- very professional and I loved seeing the course and such. Hopefully you make it to the western USA at some point. Cheers Ben and keep on running.
Brilliant mate well done 👏 incredible racing!! im keen to see a comparison on the mizuno racer to the vaporfly and others as it looks from your videos as super squishy!
Congrats on your PB! Nice vlog of your marathon with race footages. I also ran the marathon but did not met my goal timing. Hope to see more of your training and race vlogs.
Excellent video, and great result, well done Ben. I'm sure Mizuno must be happy with the results and you get more of this kind of sponsorship in the future.
Congrats on the PB! Osaka marathon was great and I loved it too! But the portaloo situation was bad. Nonetheless, still an enjoyable race with cold weather!

Cheers Gary! Not the perfect race prep but it certainly was incredible to race on the streets of Japan
I was thinking the same thing. Ben’s just built different!
That is an amazing time.
He will run faster with the camera , as he knows we are there with him. When Ben is suffering he will talk with him for support… 😊
Congrats Ben, a PB is a great result. Second marathon of the year already. 😊
The behind person wearing white shirt at 8:57 was me haha thanks for your video!
Well done Ben, it must be nice experience doing marathon in Japan 🇯🇵
I did my park run this morning my time was 37:52 my best time
Since watching your videos I’ve gone from 3k to 16 k runs in 5 weeks my goal is to be running a marathon by end of 24.
