I can’t recall when a performer on the tonight show got such a round of applause. Carson was impressed enough to let him perform two numbers back to back; a full 7 minutes to own it.
Yes. Johnny must have been impressed to allow that.
Kid Creole and the Coconuts .. one of the finest, greatest acts in showbiz!
i know I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream new series online?
yes right up there with prince...the charisma is dripping wet
Prince and Morris Day owe Kid a debt of gratitude.
Kid creole and the coconuts one of the baddest music band ever and August Darnell is a true showman, wrecks a stage, respect

Had the pleasure of seeing Kid Creole at a live concert at the South Street Seaport in NYC back in the 80's. A true original. As a bonus, Cory Daye made an appearance. Unforgettable performance.

From David A. Wood: The melodiously sublime 1984 song by Kid Creole & The Cocoanuts, "My Male Curiosity," happened to have been, and still happens to be, one of my favorite Latin-influenced R&B songs from the 1980s. Hell, it is still one of my favorite songs in September 2024! "My Male Curiosity" was one of the songs that came out of the hit 1984 movie "Against All Odds," yet, regrettably speaking, unlike the Phil Collins song, "Take A Look At Me Now," Kid Creole & The Cocoanuts' "My Male Curiosity" did not chart at all. Which was truly a damned shame because "My Male Curiosity" was, musically speaking, a much more superior song! I both first heard "My Male Curiosity" and saw the song's very entertaing video on a repeat basis Cable TV's Black Entertainment Television (BET) during the Summer of 1984. I enjoyed it ever since even though the song was difficult to access. I only found it through my Smart phone's Google app. Another thing that was and still is puzzling to me was that the musically scintillating band that was Kid Creole & The Coconuts was only regionally famous in the US Northeast, Florida, and California, which meant that the band did not receive much airplay in Ohio as it should have rightfully received. Indeed, back in the 1980s, I expected that that band would have been regularly heard on Dayton's WDAO and Cincinnati's WBLZ, which happened to have been those cities' top R&B Music stations back in the 1980s. Perhaps Kid Creole & The Cocoanuts was unfairly ignored by the more conventional R&B Music stations because of that group's notably Afro-Latino influenced music. Which just goes to show you just how stupid is the sin of Prejudice! Nuff Said and Peace Out from Kettering, Ohio, everybody. ☮️ 🇺🇸 😃👋✌️👍
Yes number one fan and was an English teacher at my high school Hempstead

Back in the VHS days they released a concert video called The Leisure Tour. It was wonderful but somehow it never made it to disc. The percussionist is Andy Hernandez, one of his band mates from the Dr. Buzzard's Original Savanah Band days.

I had the pleasure of seeing him live. He was excellent
Doc with the wicked chops
SO TIGHT! SO Entertaining!
I've always loved Addy's brilliant choreography for this one, particularly.
Doc's trumpet appearance is pure joy! And the Kid cuts a mean rug here!
Looks like Davey Boy on drums, too! I'm quite happy to see this clip 'cuz I missed it when it was televised back then.
Y'all absolutely killed it, BRAVO!!
Thank you, we gave it our all, as always, but somehow just did not get into the American living rooms.
You mean Addy wasn't just a song?
@@loveprotectionsociety777 More than a song, Adriana is seen on Kid Creole's left side in this clip. She was the main choreographer/Dancer in the Coconuts and also Kid Creole's former wife.

It's widely rumored that Prince saw them perform in New York in the late 70's, and subsequently developed the idea for Morris Day & The Time.
I believe it.

Another great one, already published on youtube but great to watch again !
Well, with such performances on large audiences shows, America should have known better and greet the band with open arms and filled theaters...
These yankees really don't know what is good for them (just check their presidents...;-)
It takes lot of promotion to get into living rooms of people
I made my parents stay up this night to watch him. I knew he was coming on the show. I was so excited. They didn't like him. Lol. My father said " You call that good entertainment?"

It's so strange, that he just used these white women, to elevate, but never always wanted his queen 😀
ART has no color! have to reply to this statement, I am Adriana Kaegi the co-founder of the band. The Coconuts were my creations I am Swiss therefore white. The concept for the Coconuts created by me, was to have three look-alike girls dancing in perfect sync, never cracking a smile. The Bands concept was always that of co-existence, and we made sure that all band members came from diverse backgrounds, religions, and skin tones since this seems to be the very topic you are incorrectly referring to. So I hope to have cleared up your assumption. Not everything in life is black and white, educate yourself and you will find out. I hope this helps you understand, what Kid Creole and the Coconuts were and are about.
IM AMAZED TO LEARN PRINCE (aka The KID) "stole" a buncha stuff from KC!!!
