I’ve never heard it out in front as you play it. I didn’t realize how good this bass line was. That band was lightning in a bottle and the very best was still to come. Jacksonville funk/rock!
Outstanding, Troy!!! Leon RIP was a total badass. This is my favorite LS tune and you showed how complex and athletic Leon's bassline really was. I have it on good authority he used Scott's Liquid Gold of all things to wipe down his flatwound strings before he played!
+Eddie Pecchio Thanks a lot. Yes, I knew the bass line was involved but I definitely underestimated it when I finally sat down to learn it. It was a real eye (and ear) opener. When I was young, there was a spray on lubricant for guitars...I used it a couple of times but have forgotten what it was called...fast frets or something.
Im lovin the Skynyrd covers lately. Leon Wilkeson was a badass and highly under rated. Id like to see you try I Know. A Little. That one will get your fingers working for sure.. Great job as always. You rock!
Great playing! Leon Wilkeson was overshadowed by three guitarist, a great singer/songwriter and powerhouse drummer. Many times Bass guitar gets lost in the mix and not noticed as much as other instruments. He was an unsung hero in Skynyrd.
Skynyrd back in the day was a disciplined, tight band and a lot of their basslines were really good. Somewhere on youtube is the isolated bassline (not Leon) for Freebird, and it's so good, it's almost like he's making the bass cry. All these years and I never noticed it until I heard that, and that's a song most of us who grew up in the 80s can't stand to listen to after they overplayed it on radio, but that bass track puts new life in it.
