    My 4.25 has no play. Bought mine in December of 2023 and after 1400 rounds have had zero fails. Ignition kit and sear spring tuning smoothed everything out. Tuned to 3.5 lbs, but changed to 5 lbs. (for carry and damn that took 2 hours to get !!!) as I carry the weapon a lot. Its a learning curve to maintain and tune the pistol but well worth the time. You folks are great as I have learned a lot of things from you. Thank you for all you do !!!! 🙂

    The SRO overhangs over the chamber indicator, which blocks all those gases from getting on the window

    I never even shot mine stock, lol. I polished the feed ramp, chamber and barrel, atlas trigger shoe and bow, egw internals and ambi saftey, adjusted the sear spring and changed the recoil spring and mainspring. I have shot almost 13k rounds between both of mine and have loved every minute of it. Why not just buy a staccato, you ask. Because I already have one. I shoot those two guns more than any other gun in my collection now.

      How would you say the prodigy, with all the mods, compares to the stock staccato?

      @@stephanox758I feel like if the Stacc was better he would say that he shoots it more.

    Bought mine specifically with 'tinkering' in mind. Extremely happy with the result. It's a shame that you had (the common) problems with your 5 inch gun. It's good that SA fixed it up for you. My 4.25 was trouble free right out of the box as is most common with the 4.25's. I use mine two or three times a week in steel comps and will be using it in upcoming USPSA matches.

    My 5" has ran flawlessly, I do have the disconnect or issue, but when you run it it's not felt. I am gonna replace all internals and trigger this weekend.

    Good review. I got the 4.25. I anticipated issues and sent the gun off to have it worked with EGW ignition, new trigger etc. as soon as I got it. The only thing the original smithing did'nt catch was the disconnector drag. Solved it with a Marvel cut. The latest issue is mag tuning. Hopefully the mag spacers solve the rounds nosediving and failing to chamber. Only happens with JHP but the spacers should work. I think it's a decent base for someone who knows they're going to modify. Definitely not for people who will leave it stock.

      Where did you send it off to get worked on?

  • @Avg_Vet
    @Avg_Vet 9 місяців тому +2

    I had one malfunction with about 1500 rounds. That was a failure to extract within the first 200 rounds. As for it getting hung up on the disconnector, mine did it as well until I pulled it apart to replace the trigger. No issues since then. Dropped in a reddirt trigger and now I have a 3.5 lb trigger pull now. I love my gun and it’s not $1000 worse then a staccato p. And you can build it up better than a staccato for less. And yes my tolerances were extremely tight, but that’s the case with all my Springfield guns (hellcat and echelon.

      Same here !!!! My Echelon AND Hellcat RDP are just as you said ..... tight as a drum. The hellcat is the most frustrating as I have a lot of rounds through it and has seemed to not looen up at all ................ 😞

    I have the same issues with mine. But really enjoy how it shoots! It getting caught up on the disconnector actually makes the gun feel softer than my buddies staccato and dip less when the slide returns to battery! Nice little feature there 😂

      Hilarious! Springfield should use it in their advertising as a performance feature...😂

    My 4.25 was a little tight and got a little stuck but now flows smoothly. Eventually i would like to get some parts for it and really get it where it needs to be. Great video.

    The first production lot had tight chambers. Had mine fixed by Springfield and it has been 100% since. Took less than 2 weeks from my shipping it out to getting it back.

    Bought my 4.25" Prodigy approx. 5 months ago. I took it home and the thumb safety fell off after I flipped it up and down a few times. I sent it back to Springfield and they fixed and returned it inside of two weeks.
    I regret buying it because if the thumb safety falls off under minimal force, what will happen once the MIM parts are under stress?
    I have yet to take it to the range.. I'm going to send it out to be completely overhauled.
    If you know how to do the work on these 19/2011s and are willing to drop $ into a "build", I suggest buying one used and starting from there. There's absolutely no point in getting a new one.
    Also, the red dot housing that it came with feels robust, but the glass clarity is awful and the red dot itself is eh..
    So definitely get dot from a reputable manufacturer.

    All true, these guns require tuning and not recommend for first timers. Mine needed the infamous disconnector adjustment and constant initial cleanup because of the cerakote on the rails. My trigger pull now is around 2.7 pounds consistently.

    • @wongkeebs4327

      Whats the disconnector adjustment?

  • @Erebus_DE
    @Erebus_DE 9 місяців тому

    I bought mine in middle of 2023, in Germany.
    My Prodigy has only 3 pound trigger pull weight as standard.
    The only issues I have that time was the "slide stop". It hang there, when still one round in the magazine.
    Other than that, no problems were encountered.😉

    Mine has all Night Hawk internals. Now DMP has a guide rod and spring kit for the Prodigy. then it should be finished, all but still deciding if I want to put a red dot on it.

    Good review, BUT if the disco wasn’t causing it to slow or hang up on every round, that means it’s probably not the disco but a feeding issue. Could be both…. Only custom tuned big dollar 1911s don’t need tuning, and even some of those do too.

    Awesome review! I was considering getting one to play with (maybe as the LO option for me instead of cutting the TSO or CM to add a dot, or just adding a magwell to the S2 :)). Time will tell.

    for USPSA, do you prefer the Shadow 2 or the prodigy? Assuming the prodigy is upgraded.

    • @TheGentlemanGunner
      @TheGentlemanGunner  6 місяців тому

      Assuming we’re talking about Limited Optics… the Prodigy. After I made the video with Prodigy where we upgraded it… I was impressed with how easy it was to be consistent and prefer the balance especially when you’re transitioning from target to target.

    • @EDnesss
      @EDnesss 6 місяців тому

      @@TheGentlemanGunner yes LO. I do have a Staccato P now but wanted something maybe to tinker with. The other option is the CZ TS2 orange/shadow 2 orange and mill for an optic/SAO conversion. So it's between the TS2 and a modded prodigy.

    My 4.25" was purchased the day they released it and has been back to Springfield for warranty 3 times. I have real 2011's so I doubt I'll upgrade (aftermarket) or tinker with my Prodigy and just consider it a sunk cost.

    I have the 4.25 and have over 600 rounds in it and have never had a malfunction. Only problem o have is when ejecting the mag the 1st bullet gets pushed forward. But get some staccato mags and that fixes that. But reliability had bee. Perfect for me and shoots better than my staccato. Now I carry the Staccato, but love the prodigy.
