- The hymn 'All creatures of our God and King', an adaption of St. Francis of Assisi's (1182 - 1226) 'Canticle of the Sun' poem by William Draper (1855-1933), set to the tune LASST UNS ERFREUEN, a 17th-century German tune adapted by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872 - 1958).
This was sung at the Service of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, which took place at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 29th March 2022.

Indeed, but it's not merely the organ. It is a congregation singing in unison with the great instrument in a vast reverberant hall.
There is nothing quite like this particular musical tradition.

No one else does anything like the like us.
Amazing that a culture that has gone so secular and non-Christian still sings the great hymns of the faith. May the Lord bring to mind these hymn-texts and open these lovely people’s hearts to the Good News of our God and Saviour.

You can separate culture from religion
Being more secular does not stop the granduet of these hymns. They are beautiful no matter what.
I was thinking the same, looking at all the faces and realizing most of them virtually never attend church
or sing a hymn. Nor are they likely to do so again except possibly at great events in which it is required.
How wonderful to see the dear Queen here, despite rapidly declining strength,
with only 6 months to live.
So fitting she could give this last tribute to Prince Phillip.
It's almost like she was wrapping up her solemn duties:
She survived and saw the nation through Covid.
She buried her husband April 2021 in poignant isolation, but later:
Attended this, his memorial service, her last, in March 2022.
She celebrated her Platinum Jubilee from the Palace balcony in June 2022.
Stood to receive the new Prime Minister at Balmoral with a radiant smile September 2022.
And 3 days later she quietly departed with no fuss.
Perfect to the end.
A lady of grace, duty and service...we'll never see the likes of her again and the world's a lesser place for it.
Well, technically, she was the head of the Church of England. Aka the Anglican Church.

was wonderful it could be the memorial service for Phillip that was not possible when he died a year earlier.
I love listening to hymns from Westminster Abbey or St Paul's cathedral. They are the best❤

@@JoeDoe2 they are organ stops that produce the lowest of the low notes. Organs that have these (not all do, some have multiple 32' stops, such as Westminster Abbey pipe organ) produce the notes that 'rattle the pews' especially those that have very strong fundamental tone.

All except one: not a word about Ralph Vaughan Williams! A good melody doesn't exist without a good harmonic setting and Vaughan Williams made a most inspiring one. I'm specially excited with those wonderful descending lines in the pedal section.
As an amateur organist I more or less manage to play along with this video on my own digital church organ: what an experience!
This was the Memorial Service for Prince Philip a year after his death. Seeing Her Majesty looking so frail I could tell she was heartbroken and she didn't have much more time til she joined him.
Yes, she entered from the side door as it was a shorter distance to walk. I believe this was the last event she attended, although she appeared on the Palace balcony a couple of times during the Jubilee in June. Died in September.
I had an NDE a few years ago during an operation. It was pure joy and love and I connected to every living being on this planet 🌎 and out into the universe. Everything was producing such incredible energy and music that was just a joy to experience. This piece is the closest thing I’ve heard to what it feels like outside this human meat vehicle: Pure freedom and total euphoria as we really are One Love ❤️

Quite so. In my opinion, at its best there is nothing in all of music to equal the tradition of congregational hymn-singing and organ. Ever. Anywhere. It belongs mostly to German and British Protestants, and the British took it to heights of grandeur.
As a tourist I happened to be in Leipzig during a regional church music conference. A service I attended at Thomas Church was basically filled with choir members from many churches, i.e. very few mumbling laggards as in a normal congregation. And the sound was simply astounding. I remember a German lady near me quietly looking around in wonderment.

Prince Philip is remembered as someone who was very dedicated to nature, and this hymn of all creatures sums it up.
As a Catholic, this hymn unites us dear Protestant brothers and sisters! Mr. Bean really did make a great job popularizing it lol

I was raised loving some of Charles Wesley's Hymns Composition 🥰❤️🙏
Dad was raised straight after birth by his Uncle, his mother's brother who was a METHODIST Catechist far from his island from 1934-1952, used to remind me, it is in the Inspired Classical Hymns, The Holy Spirit inspired Holy Sanctified Men & Women to write & compose these Divine Inspired Classical Hymns, and in Singing or listening to them, You meet God while singing it inductively & meditatingly🙏.
While Growing up as a tiny toddler, my Dad played only The Westminster Abbey Choir from England & King's College Choir till at 10 years old than included Centenary Methodist Church Choir of Suva Fiji, till today, though he taught me to be a Sabbath Keeper. He was the only Senior Cambridge Music Student of Queen Victoria School of Fiji from 1947-1952 where their Exam Papers are marked in England. Below are his beliefs in Classical Hymns;

This hymn is attributed to St. Francis of Assisi. The church I think was Roman Catholic prior to being Anglican so maybe all the statues were not taken out. A lot of high Anglican Churches still resemble Catholic Churches
The words only. The music no. The statues you see and the altar and the choir stalls and organ screen and the monuments within camera view are mostly after the Reformation.. In other words Ch. of England. You are NOT looking at Left-over catholic church art. That was removed or destroyed (with a few exceptions) during the Reformation and what was left destroyed by the Puritans of Cromwell in the 1600's. The Victorians and later generations improved the Abbey to a higher church decoration, and it is (apart from royal tombs and the chapels) all Anglican.

Any religion or school of thought that brings one closer to God and a feeling of being loved and cared for by God, and helps one to love others, is right for that person. Sometimes one thing can be good for a time but not a lifetime. One can be born into a religion that may be good for a time but then comes a time to leave it
Some of these people could show a bit more joy in the words they are singing! Every believer should beam with joy singing praises to God!
