ROASTING FALL 2020 NEW YORK FASHION SHOWS (when miley met marc and christian siriano's mess)

- In the first installment of our Fashion Week coverage, we are taking a look at some of the designers who showed during New York Fashion Week. There was Christian Siriano's take of Margot Robbie's "Birds of Prey" movie as well as Peter Do, the up and coming Céline alumni that everyone is talking about. New York's Fashion Prince, Christopher John Rogers showcased commercial staples and Project Runway's Brandon Maxwell keeps trying to be the next big American brand, but has very little to actually say. LaQuan Smith, another young favorite showed slink and sex, but it didn't exactly hold up well and Oscar de la Renta missed the mark when they tried to tap into Truman Capote's famous "Black and White party" from the 1960's. Prabal Gurung shone when channeling New York's energy and Marc Jacobs was a dud, even though he got Miley Cyrus to walk his show. All in all, the New York brands need some help!

Im confused by the disproportionate empty space on top half of this view... But Luke is a beautiful weirdo creature, so the odd framing get a pass.
Luke is skinny.

I wish that when designers sent more than one model down a catwalk they were in sync when they walked. It's very jarring when they don't.There's just too much movement in all directions. Particularly if they're doing their "signature walk" walks.
Totally agree! I also think there's so many models now with terrible walks that continue to get booked. They should all have to go through mandatory walk lessons with Ms Mariacarla Boscono

You can clearly see a gap between her and the other model's sizes tho. Not saying she isn't "normal sized" as you say just that she's bigger than what they usualy go for
Yeah she did a video with vogue a while ago and I think she’s a us size 8. It is confusing as she is on the smaller side of “plus size” haha

I loved the Do collection but I will defend runway shows over lookbooks. I thought Iris Van Herpen was interesting, but when I saw how it looked when the wearer moved, it was breathtaking. I think you just get so much information when you see someone walk in the clothes.
Luke has put more thought into the brand direction of Brandon Maxwell than Brandon Maxwell

I am actually stanning a LOT of that Do lookbook. I want those shrugs and the shrug/cami combos DESPERATELY.

I feel like most of these collections lack a storyline or even a theme.
It's as if they're just putting up clothes that make no sense together.
Even Oscar de la Renta who could've done so many interesting things in combination with their location and its history only had a couple pieces reminiscing that. I feel like Peter Do had an interesting story to tell and you could somewhat see what thoughts went into each piece.
Completely agree with that. Some looks were ok, but nothing really forced me to focus which a consistent theme would've facilitated. If you mixed some of these collections I wouldn't have even noticed tbh
I felt that with most collections too. Except Marc Jacobs, which I actually like. The clothes were commercial (which is expected for NYFW), but the concept was there. The collection was inspired by the 60s (and the fashion icons of that decade, like Jackie O), but also had a nod to the beginning of Marc Jacobs as a brand and designer (ex. pieces that were more minimal or seemed that like a "refined grunge")
I would buy Peter Do. Wearable, interesting, can be seen "out in the wild"

when designers uses tess mcmillican as a “plus size” model it makes me mad cause she’s not plus size!!! she literally a size 8! plus size would be 14+. i get it, most models are 0-2 but an 8 is literally not plus size and she should’nt be considered to be. i’m glad oscar used her tho, i love tess. but if you need plus size models they should use paloma she’s a great model that needs more runway work!!!
it's unfortunately industry standards :/ sizes 0-2 are "sample size", sizes 3-6 are "standard size" and then anything after 7+ is considered "plus size". however in this case, tess is plus size compared to the other models. it definitely needs to change.
I just finished watching next in fashion and I feel like those designers did a better job putting a show together in three days than most of these designers did in months

I liked peter do's collection and approach- but im kind of annoyed when a designer says they are inspired by something like horror movies for a collection and imo that doesnt show at all in the clothes. Not that inspiration for something needs to be super obvious or surface level and I dont even mind if its so covert that an inspiration has to be explained to be understood but as a fan of horror movies who would really enjoy horror inspired clothes I just don't see how any of it is referencing horror movies

Edit: but not exactly couture bc I really can't afford it and I would love to wear something like that
it looks a lot more psychological thriller, sci-fi or retro futurist. (think blade runner 2049, parasite, sixth sense, etc)
Watching some of these models walk reminds me of a new born giraffes. I kept waiting for someone to fall. It looks odd and I don't find it attractive at all.
