    My Earthquake was the best purchase I ever made in my own personal war against weeds, baby trees, and prickly vines. It goes everywhere and doesn't mind bedrock sticking up out of the field. The worst thing that happens is you replace the cable, which is easier to do than a weedwacker.

    • @imperfectfarm3436
      @imperfectfarm3436  Рік тому

      Yeah I am happy with it. I use it mostly for cleaning up the fence line and getting to tight places that the mower can't fit. Oh and rough terrain.

    Man. It's hard to start because you have the cutter engaged !

    • @imperfectfarm3436

      Yeah, I figured that out later. Used to my mower that needs the handle pulled to start.

  • @twagner6155
    @twagner6155 Рік тому +12

    You don't hold the handle down to start it, that engages the trimmer lines. Mine works fine.

      Yes, I am used to a lawnmower requiring that, I realized it later after thinking about why do I need to hold it since the cutoff switch is separate.

    FWIW: I bought one in 2015 from Menards. Other than usual maintenance (oil change, spark plugs, lube) and one cable line to the clutch, it has performed beautifully. Starts every year, keeps my fence line clear. I'm 70-year old female and have no trouble starting or using it.
    BTW: he said he was going to read the instructions, then didn't.

    • @Danesft
      @Danesft 4 місяці тому

      There's a diagram on the side of my mower saying exactly how to string the line AND its in the instruction manual. Once again, he should read the manual.

      @@Danesft I'll look on the side of the mower, I've done it enough now to remember how to do it. But that is a good tip thanks.

    ibve got that almost exact same one, but it is a bit older, and with a viper 150cc engine, so a teeny bit smaller, but it runs great and I love it. Hope you do too, what is ur 11 month follow up?

    Be careful operating around loose wire. It can violently pull the trimmer from your hands with enough force to break an arm.

    I'm looking at the Earthquake string mowers now. Please tell me the reasons you decided on the Briggs and Stratton engine over the Viper engine? TIA

    • @imperfectfarm3436
      @imperfectfarm3436  Рік тому

      I wasn't comparing engines in this decision, however my model does have the Viper. I was looking at reviews comparing the string mowers based on feedback and also price. I had looked into the DR string mowers and comparable but more expensive. This does everything I need, I do wish it was self propelled but that would have pushed it beyond the budget as well. I did get a spool of Cyclone Desert Extrusion CY155S3 .155" x315' Commercial Line that is so much better then the type that comes with the model.

      I've used mine for going on 9-years. Everytime I replace the trim line I go ahead and clean out the weeds wrapped around the shaft. It's almost always after I run through Johnson grass...

    How does this compare to a 50cc brush cutter? I am really considering this type of mower for efficiency but something is holding me back. Will I be able to push it on rough terrain or does the terrain need to be flat?

    • @imperfectfarm3436
      @imperfectfarm3436  6 місяців тому

      I push mine over rough terrain and it works well. There have been a few times that I could see a self powered one would be nice, but then you get more cost and heavier to handle. I don't have much that is flat and even around here.

    I have the same make and model. For the most part I realy like it This is my 4th trimmer mower , I have had 3 different kinds, I like how it starts up so easilyl and keeps on running. But here are a couple of things I don't care for in this one. First of i relly really dislike how you put on new twine. I use the 1,55 thick as I have lots of stuff to cut down You have to form a pretzel to get it attached to the machine. terrible, the worst of all th4e ones I have owned. Needs to be changed badly. The wheels are hard to work with. I have to go over a few roots here and there and the tires just don't want to roll over anything, and heaven fiorbit you get it in a crack or small hole. won't roll out you have to almost pick it up to get it out. ONe more thing I wish was different. I have to mow against some walls, trees etc. the "arm" is not an angle or enough of angle, so that you can go straght along the wall and have it cut the grass down. I have to go back and forth to get it cut all the other ones I have h ad,, were turned out farther and it was so much easier to use I wish it was better but I will keep it and wear it out and then back to one I hve had before I you look at what i have said about some of the problems, I would come back but some how I don't think you wi9ll

    • @imperfectfarm3436
      @imperfectfarm3436  Рік тому +2

      No, however I have had bad grass allergies and the mask helps contain some of that. I actually just mowed today with my zero turn and wore goggles, hearing protection and a mask. I probably looked like an alien but with being end of season it kicks up so much dust that it creates a dust cloud.

    Do not buy this this is a scam they have it set to low on rpm and won't tell you how to adjust governor

    • @imperfectfarm3436
      @imperfectfarm3436  Рік тому

      Hmm. How do you mean? The RPM's were more then enough for cutting down anything except mature blackberry vines, they more or less were like cables and just wrapped around the spindle.

    • @twagner6155
      @twagner6155 Рік тому +5

      Governors have been on small engines since the '60's at least. The governor lever is there to limit the revs because small engines are not made to rev too high so you can avoid destroying the engine. It's on the left side if standing at the handle. You can take a wire and add a few more RPM by putting one end of the wire in the spring hole and the other end in something that won't move, pulling it back toward the handle. Mine is fine where it is and works.

    • @braddemoss8208
      @braddemoss8208 Рік тому +1

      I have this exact model, and I’m delighted with it. The RPMs seem to be more than enough for Rose Of Sharon, maple, mimosa, and elm saplings as well as overgrown grass and thistle.
