Hi John, I'd like to get your opinion on the Ruby plugin versus the Morgan Amps Suite from Neural. I'm a big Neural DSP fan and still think they're are the big ones in the plugin industry, but the Ruby plugin sounds very promising!
rI have both - they're relatively different amps. The Morgan suite has three amps, so it's more versatile. but if you wnat a VOX sound, the UAD is much closer to the real thing, IMO.
Of the three it really seems like lion would be the most versatile. You stick an EQ after it, and you can dial in some of the chime and some of the brightness of the fender and the vox, but it also can do Eric Johnson lead tone, Van Halen, and all of the higher game stuff you’d wanna do, especially if you stick a tube screamer in front of it. I’m kind of leaning toward just buying lion and making presets for everything. Do you think that would work? Also, would you wait for an enigmatic plug-in. If you were thinking of buying these right now.
I’ve always assumed they would do this. I also assume they will have their own MultiFX (Helix/Fractal like) pedal at some point. They have a substantial number of amps, their own proprietary cab simulations, and plenty of effects that could be put into one box. I’m a long time Helix user, but I might consider making a switch if UA does that and the price is right.
how come u dont have the input gain set like on ur video on 'how to set input gain on amp sim to sound real'? in this video do u just fail the gain on ur interface?
The biggest drawback to buying plugins instead of a pedal is the inability to resell it if you decide it's not for you. You can always chuck a pedal on Reverb and get some of your money back.
As long as theres been DRM (games, music, user accounts), there's been trading accounts. This applies to plugins as well - the way you can resell your plugins is to lump or reassign the account to a throwaway email and password. And then have the purchaser sub in their information. For Ilok or similar plugins - you are able transfer them as well and also remove hardware access. Modern problems - modern solutions...
I agree plus there is always the possibility that the plug in fails to work with future updates of an operating system and issues with changing computers. Personally I no longer use a DAW for recording (except maybe mastering) and use hardware due to potential sale on value if I don’t like it. I would love for some plug ins to make it to pedals but none of them are amp models. UA of course did put out pedals of some really good fx plug ins but hampered them by not including MIDI.

Bought this yesterday. Got it for $72 with a voucher from UA. Your demos were very good. But when I tried recording guitar in a mix it was very fiddly. You have to record so low out of your preamp to get a clean sound. Many presets do not cut through a mix. Then I had to gain stage more then add a compressor and boost level to hear it in my mix. Also maybe it’s my guitar which has ceramic strat pickups. Sounds quite brittle. I guess this is the digital dilemma. Found it overall somewhat disappointing but I’ll keep going. Spent a few hours last night and I did manage to get some tones but overall I find it weird

Nothing wrong with the plugins. The full price is lunatic (327 Euros, seriously). Not a Neural fan at all, but their plugins cost less and come with a ton of extras.
