Have been using all of the new ua amp pedals along with York audio ir’s. They bring all the pedals to life. Have been hearing tones I never could achieve before Adding the pedals to quad cortex effects loop. Your guitars come to life. Truly amazing. Try the York’s. So clean and clear. Add some cortex effects Add the ox stomp and disengage speaker sim on amp pedal and use other mic and cabs on the ox. Huge variation of sounds I have conquered the app troubles. You must come in clean with no pedals listed on your Bluetooth list on your device. Open clean app with no pedals listed and follow pairing process. Works flawless every time. When finished delete listed pedals from app and sign out of app. Go to Bluetooth settings and remove listed pedals so none are listed. Then start procedure all over again. Seems to be trouble with software reconnecting to existing pedals listed. Clear out all connections and things work as they should. Hope this helps with other peoples troubles.
This is what I don't like about UA pedals: it's like they go out of their way to limit functionality. You can save presets, for example, but there's no way to recall it such that you can see what the settings actually were. It's a digital pedal! Leverage the advantages of being digital!
You are simply being sold the same device over and over again. Every single UA amp pedal is exactly the same physical device and they could run all of the algorithms in all of them. But they make you buy them over and over again. How is this a cool thing?
@@TheMasonator777 Adding midi and having the knob settings visible in the app would not make it more complex or add to the option paralysis. The presets are there, the app is there. It would just make what’s there vastly more useful.
This is my first UA pedal, I've been using the Strymon Iridium for about 4 years. I love the clean tones of the Enigmatic, and love the overdriven sounds...that is up until either the volume or overdrive knob goes past noon, at which point a very strong hiss starts and only gets worse the more overdriven it gets. I don't understand why, I can hit the Enigmatic with heavy overdrive from my sunset, and as long as the volume and overdrive knobs are lower than noon, its quiet as can be when my guitar volume is down. But the intense hiss that happens when trying to overdrive the enigmatic, makes it unusable in a live setting, for my purposes at least.
Bluetooth app has been historically inconsistent. They now have the amp sim pedals as plug ins now. Not sure why they can't figure out a desktop app for the hardware.
I like how I have to treat these like real amps. They feel like learning and actual amp, since you can't rely on presets and recall. Sometimes I miss the recall thing though. I had a Kemper Stage before with thousands of profiles, it was a bottomless pit of meaningless tones and endless tweaking and menu diving. It had potential but I hated the experience.
@@joeltunnah they are expensive plug-ins. I can’t justify spending thousands on them when I know I’ll want to try something else in a couple of years. Each to their own but 99 quid a year seemed like a bargain to me and that was before they added the best amp sims out there 🤷
I think the point of these pedals is like a set menu. You get a small selection of cabs, tones with some pre-sets you can add via the app . I like the simplicity of that opposed to the 36 page a la carte menu of a Helix, Fractal. Kemper et al. And I think that's the point (or the market segment maybe) Yes they are expensive on a £/feature comparison but that sort of misses the point. With an FRFR cab you can have maybe the 'curated' best of a Dumble, Marshall, Fender, Vox or EVH (so far) at your feet in simple format. That's quite a nice set of choices?
Now I know it’s a budget unit, but I recently got the POD Express to do what the UA pedals do sort of. I thought I’d find one good tone and just use it with my pedals that I already have. But I found that all the functions it has, which are even less than an HX Stomp, solved more problems than I was even aware of. Having a few great amp sims plus good effects was more than a significant benefit. I sold pedals now and am happy with just the PE. I’m saying that because even if people think, “I don’t want a lot of functions and stuff,” they may find that if they give stuff like a Fractal, Helix, QC a try they’ll actually see it solves more problems than they were aware of and they’ll still sound great. And that leaves the UA stuff at a distinct disadvantage for being limited in functionality.
Great playing, great sounds !!! More harmonics and more dynamics, more alive than anything you compared it to.. First time UA sounds like a big evident yes to me
I agree with the point of losing the settings once a preset is saved, it would be nice to have them show in the app. What I have done with mine is on my HX Effects I've created an effects loop block and plugged the Enigmatic into that, now I can put the HX compressors, overdrives etc. before the Enigmatic and add the delay and reverb after it, this seems to work quite well (for me). I have recently added the UA Evermore to the other effects loop in the HX Effects, allowing me to add that in as well. Just an idea for anyone who wants to try that 🙂.
I think the beauty of these is to just treat it like your amp. I’d prefer to use a tube amp, but I got this and the lion to use in my home practice space where the volume needs to be controlled a bit more. They work great for it, fun to play, but just don’t expect them to be a tube amp replacement
My experience with the Enigmatic? Sounds great and I thought it was going to be the solution for me. Then, I realized I hadn’t played the Grammatico GSG in Helix yet. WOW, I’ll be darned if Helix don’t sound just as good or better. Well…off to Reverb 😂
very interesting video - I think the combi of UA Enigmatic with Fender FR is very interesting and promising. I’m planning on bringing my Enigmatic (and power supply) to a local shop that has the FR amps. I’m very curious. Possibly a *useful* poor man’s Dumble that’s gig ready for under $1k!
I've been using a 600watt behringer keyboard amp(which is basically a PA, has a 10-band eq and some effects on board) for the last few years with my iridium, love it. basically gives modelers and 'amp in the room' vibe. Even better, I got it on craigslist for 250.

@@67er_matze97 I went to Five Star Guitars this afternoon with my UA pedal… the FR10 was sold right before I got there, but I messed with the FR12 for quite a while. In short: I FRIGGIN WANT ONE! It sounds killer and an employee came over to why his gear was sounding so good. My only concern now is how to do effects. The FR doesn’t have an effects loop, so do I run the Enigmatic first, or last on a little pedal board?
The fact that you said you preferred the Enigmatic “in some cases” to the Fractal and HX Stomp doesn’t sound promising. A stand alone unit dedicated to emulating only ONE amp should blow jack-of-all-trades units completely out of the water in all cases.
It's extremely flexible and easy to get great sounds and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters, while jack-of-all-trades units aka "more amps" doesn't necessarily mean more good amps.
Idk Fractal is awesome. A pedal that competes actually sounds really promising to me. My Fractal lives in the studio, I don't wanna lug that out with the guitar cuz I'm lazy. An amp pedal that sounds good is a great alternative for me.
Got a Crazy Tube Circuits Unobtainium Raw. I’ve heard Dumbles live and Robin Ford’s specifically at about 8’ directly in front of it. I can say the Unobtainium definitely takes the fender deluxe and makes it sound huge. And the Klon circuit boosts nicely. It worked great with a Carr Viceroy too. Try one if you can.
Nice playing John! Great jazz chord structure! I don't know John theres some magic that happens when you are on that SS!😀 Can't ask for better tone really! Sometimes with all the Dumble wanna-be pedals, it gets a little overwhelming. The UA is just fine.
One of the things that killed using Pedals for me was the inability to save and recall Presets I invested a lot of time creating. Modelers solved that problem for me. Regarding the effect of volume on tone, I've had some good results by turning up the level a few dBs on the Output Node of my HX Stomp unit. But that doesn't seem to work on Helix Native, which sounds like it just turns up the volume without affecting the tone. YMMV
UA Amp Pedals sound awesome... but sadly are nearly useless for people that need flexibility. They are only useful for people that want one or two sounds and don't play a variety of tones. They need midi switching BADLY.
Ironically this is the very thing I like about the UA pedals. All the engineering on the amp sim pedals went into figuring out how to model that one amplifier.
In general, “most” people who play only analog amps usually just have one, and they do everything on that one amp. That’s the demographic that the UA pedals are aimed at, not people who prefer to work with DAWs and like to have thousands of software options, nor people who work in the covers industry where they need to be able to dial up an entirely different sound for each song they play in a live setting.
In my own playing as I get better at recording, I’m noticing that my solos are much less boring when I throw in interspersed chord chunks and double stops. Added benefit is doing so really makes you look at the fingerboard in terms of chords rather than patterns. I noticed you seldom do this and have you thought about it? Still planning on trying my new Enigmatic with a FR 10 / 12. Will report back if anyone cares.
This is a pedal. It’s meant to be a pedal. Some people don’t like “more functionality” all the time. Option paralysis is a real thing, efficient UI is a thing. I have modellers and I have a pedalboard. I spend more time playing and less time tweaking a pedalboard, and I get better sounds more quickly. This is not comparable to a Helix or Fractal, and it shouldn’t be. It sounds as good as a modeller but it has knobs and switches. Sign me up. Edit: Value isn’t an issue for any budget if you buy wisely. I’ve done the gear chase. It’s fun, but “value” has nothing to do with that. An HX stomp is a value if you want everything in one box with almost no tactile UI. I want more tactility and less options in purpose built things that sound good at almost every setting.
I don’t know about everyone else but I am beyond bored with the unobtanium “dumble myth”. What we really need is for JoBo or Mr Ford/Carlton to say “yes it sounds like mine” and then we can all go back to enjoying the lovely playing on this channel. Next…
They are ripping you off. All of these app pedals are running a computer algorithm, not a capture I would add. Line 6 Helix anyone? Better buy a tonex and have all of the best captures available to you from all of the best people capturing apps. Such a simple equation
