This was the first concert of their 10th Anniversary Tour..I flew out from the UK to be there....And then 10 months later..I flew out again to be at the last concert of the same tour at Yokohama Arena which was even more amazing...I've heard many bands over my 55 years ..like many others...And I would never of traveled to the other side of the world to see any of them...But BAND-MAID are different...they truly are special to me..Long May They Reign!👑

When Miku started the band, she was already signed as a singer to her management company in a 3-person girl group known as Lil Cumin. It wasn't too her liking, so she pitched the idea of Maids playing cool music to management. Miku can talk your ear off & she's very determined. So eventually, they agreed ! 😏♥️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘
There is another version of *"Puzzle"* you should consider watching. The lyrics are about a woman who's found her missing puzzle piece but _he_ doesn't want his wife to find out. There's a lot of sarcasm and anger in the way it's delivered, and amplified in the guitar solo. They have also done this song as a duet, with Saiki singing, and Kanami playing acoustic guitar and singing harmony. The same lyrics, melody, and chords but entirely different emotions; disappointment and heartache. It's stunning, too. When Miku Kobato (小鳩 = Kobato, and 小 = small and 鳩 = pigeon) moved to Tokyo, she worked in a maid cafe in Akihabara. While she was there she entered a singing contest and was picked to be in a idol trio "Lil Cumin." She quit waitressing and did Lil Cumin for a year, then quit that and applied to Platinum Passport. They asked her what she wanted to do and she saidi she liked the "cute outfits" of the maid cafes, and the contrast to the hard rock that she was listening to. They signed her and she recruited Kanami to be the guitarist. Kanami had worked with Akane as a drummer, and Akane went to school with MISA. After a few weeks, Miku decided they needed a more powerful voice and they selected Saiki who was already signed with Platinum Passport. They originally all wore the same outfits but pretty quickly started customizing them. MISA and Saiki have always worn black and their style has changed from the "French maid" concept. They've updated their stage dress almost every year, and what you saw in this video is what they wore in 2022 and 2023. They had new outfits for their last big concert in November 2023 so they'll be wearing different dresses next year. Kanami (aka Mincho) is now "dark Mincho," for example.
Their outfits change regularly, they started out as fully matching maids but have evolved largely to suit their personalities. The outfits here only lasted about a year as they debuted new gear at the 10th Anniversary finale at Yokohama Arena back in November, Saiki and Kanami's ( also known as Kanamincho or just Mincho) new outfits are particularly stunning.
Welcome to the land of the Maidiac - they are breathing new life into hard rock, they're music will lift you up every time, and their musicianship is out of control great. And yet, it's their songwriting that you may appreciate the most as you continue your journey - they don't write bad ones and they have over 130. I am completely addicted and have no desire for that to change in any way. They are both a musician's band and a band for everyone. The world needs this band!
And a thing about the maid outfits, Ace & Lady Kagome: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!
I've heard of Larry Carlton, but I don't think I've ever heard anything by him. I've heard Carlos Santana play a couple of songs, but it's been so long I don't really remember

Great reaction! Herman Li of Dragonforce wore a maid outfit when he interviewed and auditioned before Band-Maid's Miku and Kanami, so you are in very good company.
The Band-Maid journey is long and rewarding! With over 120 awesome songs to choose from, you really can't make a bad choice! You should check out the song that saved the band from being dropped from their contract, "Thrill", and it set their path to the awesomeness we Maidiac's have come to appreciate from these ladies. "Domination"(live), "Play"(live), the combo of "Dice-Hate?" from Lollapalooza in Chicago this year are great! I also would encourage you check out some instrumental songs from them, "From Now On", "Onset", and "Without Holding Back" will get you started and you will want more, trust me!
The Ladies ALWAYS change the second verse. The DO NOT do cut paste like some bands do. While they do adhere to some of the standards of song writing, they often add in changes. And yes they each have their uniforms specialized to their individual personalities. There is an older, no longer on UA-cam version of this song which for many years was the standard version. Which has a little more "Oomph" in it. It is from their 2017 Studio Coast concert and if you can find it, I suggest you also watch it.
The thing with maid cafes is that the girls perform cute pop songs while making your milkshake. There's even bits of footage of Miku doing just that. But while walking home, listening to her favorite rock bands in her earbuds, she pondered, "Wouldnt it be great to have a band where we can wear cute outfits but play cool music?" Oh it's no big deal for me. I dress up on Twitch occasionally. I have a maid outfit, an Alice in Wonderland outfit (that's what the wig is from), a Pikachu onesie, and a Goku outfit (wig and all)
Ace, Kanami, the lead guitarist, has a nickname of Mincho. It means shorty in Japanese because she's so short. I personally call her the "wonderful little genius" because she composes all their music. She was a classically trained pianist who studied the instrument for decades, before picking up the guitar. What a transition!!!!! Miku, the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist, wearing the red rose, writes all their lyrics. Saiki, who is called the "Ice Princess" is their lead singer. Misa, "barefoot assassin", the bassist, is considered one of the best bassist in rock. Akane, the drummer "the gorilla", is one of the best drummers in rock. She can get up to 220 BPM for some songs.
I would like to make a slight correction. "MINCHO" does not mean "shorty". (I'm a native Japanese) I think you're probably confusing it with KANAMI's "shortened form." The number of letters has not decreased, but the pronunciation has become shorter. She is short though 😁

And only a native Japanese Maidiac could’ve pronounced those names better 👍🏽 As a fan, I appreciate not only your fun approach to this reaction, but your notes, and your thoughts on individual pieces of the music. Band Maid appreciates and rewards the serious listener. It is why they are a musician’s band. Oh, the songwriting! Verses are never copied, always developing into something new. Choruses are typically catchy and upbeat, despite the heavy instrumentation. And my goodness, their bridges are creatively and beautifully crafted. And if this weren’t enough, bass features are common, as are dueling bass and guitar solos. For the drummers out there, Akane is a creative writer of drum fills and rarely repeats them. She’s a master at playing a ton of notes without ever sounding “too busy.” Kanami? The Riff Goddess. She does the work of three guitarists in almost every song. Obviously, I could go on. But I am sure you’ll appreciate them as much as I do with every new reaction. I went to their Hong Kong show at the end of 2023, I ran for Kanami's side of the barrier and made myself comfortable, it was only during the pre show sound check when I realized that the "platform" in front of me were 4 large sound equipment, I spent the entire show eating each and every single one of Akane's kicks.
Quick note, most of the MV have translation included (by the band). Nice reaction and glad you're spreading the word about my favorite band. As for suggestions, go to their channel and throw a dart, any of the songs are great. Also, if you go to the "Releases" tab, they have most of their albums (the oldest albums are not there).
I'll keep that in mind for the future. The only thing is trying to read the words while they are playing I tend to miss some things, so I'll just use them for after they are done playing

Band-Maid's genre is Band-Maid. The will put rock, hard rock, metal, punk, pop, pop-punk, Alt, and prog, with blues and jazz sprinkled in just for Becausewe'reBand-Maidthat'swhy"! into their songs. Try the Dice mv or the Manners/Black hole twosome for variety
Their nicknames are actually Sai-chan (Saiki), Mincho (Kanami), Kuruppo (Miku), Ah-chan (Akane), Misa-chan (Misa). People outside of Japan have called them different things such as Small Pigeon, Gorilla, and Barefoot Assassin...but I have never really heard of Star Queen or Princess.

Not sure where you got Star Queen from. The Queen is what she was originally, sometimes Ice Queen. Small Pigeon is kind of literal, Small Pigeon is more correct for English. Most Maidiacs don't call Kanami Princess very often, usually just Mincho, short for Kamincho. Akane's nickname was originally "The Beast". Gorilla came about from all the bananas she eats. Check out the Acoustic version of 'Puzzle' sometime. But BAND-MAID have such a wide range of songs, suggestions are difficult without knowing what the person likes. I'm guessing you like anime. They have one where they're animated called 'Unleash'. Also they get commissioned to do Anime Theme Songs. The last one was the season two closer for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura, called 'Shambles'.

Misa [mee-sah] (Barefoot Assassin) - Bass Guitar Her nickname comes from an interview where the host was saying that she was not wearing a maid outfit and Miku spoke up stating that it was an assassin maid outfit, along with the fact that Misa goes barefoot on stage. Miku [mee-kuu] (Small Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, Band Founder Her nickname comes from her chosen last name Kobato, which literally means small pigeon. Akane [aah-kah-nay] (Gorilla) - Drums Her nickname comes partially from her love of eating bananas. She almost always snacks on one during their long okyu-ji (servings, concerts) which routinely last well over 2 hours. Saiki [sigh-kee] (Sai-Chan or Ice Queen) - Lead Vocals Fans called her the Ice Queen early on because she was very stoic and showed little emotion. She has evolved to be quite expressive now. The band just call her Sai-Chan. Kanami [kah-nah-mee] (Mincho or Princess) - Lead Guitar, Songwriter Fans called her Princess because of her infatuation with Saiki. When she introduces herself onstage she says "Please call me Mincho". (meen-cho)
Their sound is definitely hard rock, with a punk influence at times. If you haven't yet, check out their live version of Freedom. There's a nice drum solo. Plus you can see from all the smiles in it just how much fun they have performing live.
@@AceofBadeReactsNo you got their nicknames right. However Saiki's nickname doesn't really suit her anymore because she has mellowed down a lot and her genuine smile melts our heart. She used to have the stony, aloof vibe due to being super shy and was very reserved.
An earlier version of "Puzzle' sealed the deal for me. It was the 2nd Band Maid song I had heard. I actually found them thanks to Blackpink. Note - They have named their maid costumes their Battle Armor.
Band-Maid songs are like short stories. You wouldn't write a paragraph early in the story and write the identical paragraph later. That doesn't make sense in a short story and its boring in music. They maintain the 'plot line' or theme throughout but shift rhythm and instrumentation within those standard frameworks. They put the compositional work in and it is simply better.
Simply, Band Maid cannot be Pigeon-holed in regards to genre. Their song composing pattern seems to be Intro with riff, Verse 1 - set the song melody, V2 - change that melody up, Breakdown (usually a surprise, but compositionally works), V3 - resolution of said melody (usually half-time with a lot of space), then kill you with the last verse, Outro (usually a reminder of the intro riff that you forgot about 2 mins ago). Side note: you expect them to have multiples of their Maid outfits (they call it "Fighting Gear"), at least for world tours. But, they only have one set each. They say that there is an organized way they wash, dry, and prep their gear in the hotel room or tour bus (in the US, the bus was called "Kuroneko," which means "Black Cat."). For 2024, they have refined their "Fighting gear." They commissioned @kimikatrock, a boutique vintage dress designer, to develop gear unique to each personality. I was at this concert. Vocal sounded so powerful and full of raw emotions in it. It wasn't a perfect performance and Kanami's solo was slightly sloppy but that has charm of its own. My favourite Puzzle solo is from 2017 Shinkiba Studio Coast live. It's awesome you guys loved the song 😊

Not sure where some of these nicknames are coming from. Wouldn’t emphasize them. The second vocalist is the rhythm guitarist, Miku. Kanami, the lead guitarist, is their primary songwriter. Five incredible talents make this a super group!

The maid theme isn't weird at all in Japan, and it's not only cafes. You can't read a manga or watch an anime without a maid character showing up. They have an unofficial holiday called "Day Of Maid" on May 10th. May (read it as 'mei') and 10th (can be alternatively read as 'do' in Japanese) = Mei-do (Maid). Ladies (and a few men) hit the streets wearing their maid costumes to celebrate the holiday.

There is another version of *"Puzzle"* you should consider watching. The lyrics are about a woman who's found her missing puzzle piece but _he_ doesn't want his wife to find out. There's a lot of sarcasm and anger in the way it's delivered, and amplified in the guitar solo. They have also done this song as a duet, with Saiki singing, and Kanami playing acoustic guitar and singing harmony. The same lyrics, melody, and chords but entirely different emotions; disappointment and heartache. It's stunning, too.
When Miku Kobato (小鳩 = Kobato, and 小 = small and 鳩 = pigeon) moved to Tokyo, she worked in a maid cafe in Akihabara. While she was there she entered a singing contest and was picked to be in a idol trio "Lil Cumin." She quit waitressing and did Lil Cumin for a year, then quit that and applied to Platinum Passport. They asked her what she wanted to do and she saidi she liked the "cute outfits" of the maid cafes, and the contrast to the hard rock that she was listening to. They signed her and she recruited Kanami to be the guitarist. Kanami had worked with Akane as a drummer, and Akane went to school with MISA. After a few weeks, Miku decided they needed a more powerful voice and they selected Saiki who was already signed with Platinum Passport. They originally all wore the same outfits but pretty quickly started customizing them. MISA and Saiki have always worn black and their style has changed from the "French maid" concept. They've updated their stage dress almost every year, and what you saw in this video is what they wore in 2022 and 2023. They had new outfits for their last big concert in November 2023 so they'll be wearing different dresses next year. Kanami (aka Mincho) is now "dark Mincho," for example.

Their outfits change regularly, they started out as fully matching maids but have evolved largely to suit their personalities. The outfits here only lasted about a year as they debuted new gear at the 10th Anniversary finale at Yokohama Arena back in November, Saiki and Kanami's ( also known as Kanamincho or just Mincho) new outfits are particularly stunning.

And yet, it's their songwriting that you may appreciate the most as you continue your journey - they don't write bad ones and they have over 130. And a thing about the maid outfits, Ace & Lady Kagome: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

The Band-Maid journey is long and rewarding! With over 120 awesome songs to choose from, you really can't make a bad choice! You should check out the song that saved the band from being dropped from their contract, "Thrill", and it set their path to the awesomeness we Maidiac's have come to appreciate from these ladies. "Domination"(live), "Play"(live), the combo of "Dice-Hate?" from Lollapalooza in Chicago this year are great! I also would encourage you check out some instrumental songs from them, "From Now On", "Onset", and "Without Holding Back" will get you started and you will want more, trust me!

The Ladies ALWAYS change the second verse. The DO NOT do cut paste like some bands do. While they do adhere to some of the standards of song writing, they often add in changes.
And yes they each have their uniforms specialized to their individual personalities.
There is an older, no longer on UA-cam version of this song which for many years was the standard version. Which has a little more "Oomph" in it. It is from their 2017 Studio Coast concert and if you can find it, I suggest you also watch it.
That is a shame it isn't up anymore. At least we have this version to check out. Maybe it'll appear later on down the line again.

The thing with maid cafes is that the girls perform cute pop songs while making your milkshake. There's even bits of footage of Miku doing just that. But while walking home, listening to her favorite rock bands in her earbuds, she pondered, "Wouldnt it be great to have a band where we can wear cute outfits but play cool music?" (She'd already had a brief stint singing for an idol pop trio called Li'l Cumin) Thus an idea was born that became Band Maid.

Oh it's no big deal for me. I dress up on Twitch occasionally. I have a maid outfit, an Alice in Wonderland outfit (that's what the wig is from), a Pikachu onesie, and a Goku outfit (wig and all)

Ace, Kanami, the lead guitarist, has a nickname of Mincho. It means shorty in Japanese because she's so short. I personally call her the "wonderful little genius" because she composes all their music. She was a classically trained pianist who studied the instrument for decades, before picking up the guitar. What a transition!!!!! Miku, the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist, wearing the red rose, writes all their lyrics. Saiki, who is called the "Ice Princess" is their lead singer. Misa, "barefoot assassin", the bassist, is considered one of the best bassist in rock. Akane, the drummer "the gorilla", is one of the best drummers in rock. She can get up to 220 BPM for some songs.
Best Bassist - Best Drummer - Best Lyricist - Best Composer - and all in the one band ... can't beat that.

Verses are never copied, always developing into something new. Choruses are typically catchy and upbeat, despite the heavy instrumentation. And my goodness, their bridges are creatively and beautifully crafted.
And if this weren’t enough, bass features are common, as are dueling bass and guitar solos.
For the drummers out there, Akane is a creative writer of drum fills and rarely repeats them. She’s a master at playing a ton of notes without ever sounding “too busy.”
Kanami? The Riff Goddess. She does the work of three guitarists in almost every song.

I went to their Hong Kong show at the end of 2023, I ran for Kanami's side of the barrier and made myself comfortable, it was only during the pre show sound check when I realized that the "platform" in front of me were 4 large sound equipment, I spent the entire show eating each and every single one of Akane's kicks.

Quick note, most of the MV have translation included (by the band). Nice reaction and glad you're spreading the word about my favorite band. As for suggestions, go to their channel and throw a dart, any of the songs are great. Also, if you go to the "Releases" tab, they have most of their albums (the oldest albums are not there).
I'll keep that in mind for the future. The only thing is trying to read the words while they are playing I tend to miss some things, so I'll just use them for after they are done playing
In this song you cannot hear really good the incredible vocal harmonies of Saiki and Miku . That is one of the things Band-Maid makes outstanding.

To me, one of the signatures of Band-Maid (and I love this about them) is that the verses are never exactly the same thing.

Band-Maid's genre is Band-Maid. The will put rock, hard rock, metal, punk, pop, pop-punk, Alt, and prog, with blues and jazz sprinkled in just for Becausewe'reBand-Maidthat'swhy"! into their songs. Try the Dice mv or the Manners/Black hole twosome for variety

Their nicknames are actually Sai-chan (Saiki), Mincho (Kanami), Kuruppo (Miku), Ah-chan (Akane), Misa-chan (Misa). People outside of Japan have called them different things such as Small Pigeon, Gorilla, and Barefoot Assassin...but I have never really heard of Star Queen or Princess.

Not sure where you got Star Queen from. The Queen is what she was originally, sometimes Ice Queen. Small Pigeon is kind of literal, Small Pigeon is more correct for English. Most Maidiacs don't call Kanami Princess very often, usually just Mincho, short for Kamincho. Akane's nickname was originally "The Beast". Gorilla came about from all the bananas she eats. Check out the Acoustic version of 'Puzzle' sometime. But BAND-MAID have such a wide range of songs, suggestions are difficult without knowing what the person likes. I'm guessing you like anime. They have one where they're animated called 'Unleash'. Also they get commissioned to do Anime Theme Songs. The last one was the season two closer for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura, called 'Shambles'.

Misa [mee-sah] (Barefoot Assassin) - Bass Guitar
Her nickname comes from an interview where the host was saying that she was not wearing a maid outfit and Miku spoke up stating that it was an assassin maid outfit, along with the fact that Misa goes barefoot on stage.
Miku [mee-kuu] (Small Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Lyricist, Band Founder
Her nickname comes from her chosen last name Kobato, which literally means small pigeon.
Akane [aah-kah-nay] (Gorilla) - Drums
Her nickname comes partially from her love of eating bananas. She almost always snacks on one during their long okyu-ji (servings, concerts) which routinely last well over 2 hours.
Saiki [sigh-kee] (Sai-Chan or Ice Queen) - Lead Vocals
Fans called her the Ice Queen early on because she was very stoic and showed little emotion. She has evolved to be quite expressive now. The band just call her Sai-Chan.
Kanami [kah-nah-mee] (Mincho or Princess) - Lead Guitar, Songwriter
Fans called her Princess because of her infatuation with Saiki. When she introduces herself onstage she says "Please call me Mincho". (meen-cho)

Their sound is definitely hard rock, with a punk influence at times. If you haven't yet, check out their live version of Freedom. There's a nice drum solo. Plus you can see from all the smiles in it just how much fun they have performing live.

Miku usually call her Sai-chan, or Sensei on rare occasions.

However Saiki's nickname doesn't really suit her anymore because she has mellowed down a lot and her genuine smile melts our heart.
She used to have the stony, aloof vibe due to being super shy and was very reserved.

An earlier version of "Puzzle' sealed the deal for me. It was the 2nd Band Maid song I had heard. I actually found them thanks to Blackpink.

Band-Maid songs are like short stories. You wouldn't write a paragraph early in the story and write the identical paragraph later. That doesn't make sense in a short story and its boring in music. They maintain the 'plot line' or theme throughout but shift rhythm and instrumentation within those standard frameworks. They put the compositional work in and it is simply better.
What a great way to put it
Simply, Band Maid cannot be Pigeon-holed in regards to genre. Their song composing pattern seems to be Intro with riff, Verse 1 - set the song melody, V2 - change that melody up, Breakdown (usually a surprise, but compositionally works), V3 - resolution of said melody (usually half-time with a lot of space), then kill you with the last verse, Outro (usually a reminder of the intro riff that you forgot about 2 mins ago). Side note: you expect them to have multiples of their Maid outfits (they call it "Fighting Gear"), at least for world tours. But, they only have one set each. They say that there is an organized way they wash, dry, and prep their gear in the hotel room or tour bus (in the US, the bus was called "Kuroneko," which means "Black Cat."). For 2024, they have refined their "Fighting gear." They commissioned @kimikatrock, a boutique vintage dress designer, to develop gear unique to each personality. I was at this concert. Vocal sounded so powerful and full of raw emotions in it.
It wasn't a perfect performance and Kanami's solo was slightly sloppy but that has charm of its own. My favourite Puzzle solo is from 2017 Shinkiba Studio Coast live. It's awesome you guys loved the song 😊

Not sure where some of these nicknames are coming from. Wouldn’t emphasize them. The second vocalist is the rhythm guitarist, Miku. Kanami, the lead guitarist, is their primary songwriter. Five incredible talents make this a super group!

The maid theme isn't weird at all in Japan, and it's not only cafes. You can't read a manga or watch an anime without a maid character showing up. They have an unofficial holiday called "Day Of Maid" on May 10th. May (read it as 'mei') and 10th (can be alternatively read as 'do' in Japanese) = Mei-do (Maid). Ladies (and a few men) hit the streets wearing their maid costumes to celebrate the holiday.
