My friend, you could make installing shoelaces the most enjoyable event of the week! Your enthusiasm is true medicine! Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
Thanks for dropping by Al. We don't want Billy Ray pulling the plug:-) I can't wait to see the old dumper running. Love you all...Be Kind and love one another !
Thank you Al for hangin out with Buckin. Look forward to you guys finding the issue. Had a couple issues similar to this with my 78 Ford. One ended up being the pickup coil in the distributer and the other was the shear pin on the gear of the distributer let loose. Love ya Buckin. 🌲❤🌲👊🪓
To check the timing chain, take the distributor cap off so you can watch the rotor. Put a socket and breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt and rock the crankshaft back and forth while watching the rotor. There should be very little movement of the crankshaft, in both directions, before the rotor starts to move. Good luck Buckin!
Because of you I have a 1970 460 dually. I wanted something as simple as possible. I also climb an drum. Promise I'm not a stalker. Been restoring the old dump for awhile. Trying to soak as much knowledge as possible. Starter for my 2004 6.0, 600.00. Starter for my 1970 460 28.00. I respect your character more than anything. Your a beast sir
You rock Buckin!!! My favorite Canadian apart from Ricky, Julian and bubbles. They don't teach me anything about trees or chain sharpening though haha. P.s. please replace the coil on the dump truck...
hey buckin. just wanted to mention that i just bought an old straight six 292 in a 78 chevy C20, i love watching your vids and finally feeling good about a purchase i made. i will learn how to work on trucks on this mofo thank you for inspiring me to get up daily and show everyone respect and kindness! love ya buckin Have a Great day!
You see i know some few things about trees and forests but with Buckin goin all the way from Trees, Axes and the wisdom relating to the fiber on the stump and ending sometimes with Myrtle i also learn a few things about cars (i know nothing about cars🤔🤨) Thanks again Buckin and let's not forget Al!🙏🌲🌳🇳🇱✊
Runs until things get warmed up, then quits, classic bad coil symptom. Those hall effect switches in the distributors take a certain kind of coil, or they burn up as well. If the float is sticking on the carb, give the bowl a little tappy tap tap with a hammer. 9/10 times it'll unstick the needle. Also, have Al show you to use a vacuum gauge. Old school way of checking an engine out.
We are having the same trouble with timing at work with an old Ford F800 dump with a 429 it has the same distributor as your 460 thanks for the video very helpful
i know this is a old video, but its bad ass, cause ive been working on getting my 400 runnin in my 77 f150 ranger xlt and its got literally the exact same issues... ill get her tho brothja. LOVE YA BROTHA.
Me and my son are tearing into a 1990 efi 460 to put new head gaskets and intake, we did it before on my 97' f250 hd 460, the good thing is you dont have to pull the exhaust manifolds off on the 460 to remove the heads. Its actually easier than it looks.
Pull the number 1 plug completely out put your thumb over empty hole and as you bump it over you will feel the compression blow on your thumb. Two revolutions you could feel the same thing, that's called 180 out of time. It may look like you are on #1 fire position but in actuality you could be 180 off thous no fire try that.
Had ford's all my life a whole 30 years of being around them. First thing I know that happened to my 460 when replacing the carb was to much fuel pressure. If running a electric fuel pump it needs to be before the fuel pump so it can act as a pressure regulator. Probably the spoiler comment right here. Good luck Buckin'.
Hey buckin a more accurate way of testing the piston is tdc is put a screwdriver down the hole turn it over by hand with the fan or ratchet on the pulley screw driver will go up hit tdc then start going down again . Flooding issue is most likely the float sticking.old fuel will varnish it all up being stood.give it a good clean out with some carb spray cleaner . Take all the plugs out clean them to before you try it again .good luck pal 👍
12 degrees btdc is where you need to be for that year 460. Can go a few more degrees advance to get a better burn for E 10 fuel. Those came from factory with a nylon cam gear that is prone to breaking.
Had a 2000 Tahoe, same problem. Found top dead center using a small hose and the inside piece of a dog squeaky toy on plug #1. Turning the crankshaft till air out of #1 made the squeak, homeade ingenuity
It's got to be the carburetor Billy. At that's what my mind is telling me. Heck, pull the carb off, turn it over till you can see the intake is dry on the inside. Remove the plugs, clean them. Then spray 2 cycle gas in the intake where the carb goes. Use something along the lines of a windex bottle to spray it. You're basically creating your own fuel air mixture with the bottle. I'd be willing to bet she'd fire right up. The only thing that would prevent it would be incorrect timing, or a massive vacuum leak somewhere around the intake. Good luck buddy.
You're welcome to message me anytime on messenger. I'm stuck at the house right now no better off than you were when you got hit by that darn tree. I love your outlook on life and I've been binge watching your videos. Unfortunately I can't do anything else right now.
Some times a pin in the gear on the distributor will sheer. Causing the timing to be off . The cam gear is got a fiber gear that can go bad and your timing can jump back and forth Allowing you to have an intermittent timing problem . If you are flooding the needle in the carb is not shutting off the fuel to your bowl .some times if your float is bad or it's sunk it will flood .pull the carb and take the top off the carb and check for loose needle seat or trash in the carb ... Change all your plugs they are gas soaked . .
I think people like hot rods and old vehicles as much now as ever, although today's "vintage" vehicles were our "time to get a new one" jalopies. Good thing they all didn't wind up at the wreckers.
I have a chinese 2bbl carb and sealed op all my vacuum leaks got it running good but them it was flooding, it ended up being the float would not float so we took one off a ford motorcraft one and put it in the chinese carb and it works great now.
My guess is the distributor shaft coming out of engine has broken or was lifted when the cap was replaced and put back in out of time. I can't see this truck having enough miles to wear out a timing chain to the point it jumps time.
Flooding is needle and seat issues, or float sticking! I would clean the carb. And you can bump the starter with a simple piece of wire or a fork right at the solenoid from Bat+ to start terminal. Disconnect the fuel line, and blow off the spark plugs, then try starting it with a little either, or a “spray of gas” not a squirt, if it fires off, then the issue is in the carb.
The timing chain wouldn't jump a tooth. When dropping the distributor u gotta line the oil pump rod .. into the bottom of the distributor. Line it top dead center.. apply pressure down on the distributor while jumping or bumping the relay... it will drop all the way.. bring it back up to tpc... see if the rotor is pointing to #1 position.. if so ur good.. if not ur off a tooth.. do it all over again 20 mins I cud have it running
It took me forever to realize the rust in the old gas tank was causing 99 problems, maybe you address this in the next video. Got a new tank then bonded the seems to keep the water out. Levitation by sound frequency is my next stop. I can't afford a 2023 dump, and actually take time to enjoy life at the same time
Hey bucking love ur channel I'm a powersaw wood splitting by hand guitar slinger in Ontario my little sister is out in Nanaimo BC she runs the royal conservatory of music if u ever get a chance drop by and say hello to her!!! Her name is Jennifer lol
oh no so what happened to the follow up video? My truck is flooding as well and I don't know why? It reeves up super high and then turns off...Any idea??????
You have gas soaked plugs..... Change your plugs ....your carb needs rebuilt because your float is sunk or needle and seat in bowl has trash under it not letting it seal off .your timing is good.also keep in mind that you and the other guy made it run.... porcelain on your plugs get soaked and it shorts out killing your fire at the plugs .
I could be wrong but I think his timing is off. If his #1 is on the front left like he said and the rotor button if facing back right then he is off on his timing. I thought the rotor button (pointed end) should be on TDC, should be facing #1 cylinder....??
Um its been a while since ive worked on a distributor set up..but to be a chain issue means it wasnt put in time to begin with cus unless the chain is old and stretched or a tooth on the cam or crank is broken it cant jump time . The most common issues is the distributor being off a tooth cus they are a pain to set on some engines.
Buckinbillyray do yourself a favor and go get a haynes manual for those trucks itll help a lot with basic no start issues.....id check how hot the spark is
Your carb needs looked at carb needles are probly hard and not sealing closed or you floats could be fuel soaked and not floating up to close the needles.
Those carbs have floats, and if it has set for a long time with fuel in the bowl it can cause the same problem as a lawnmower engine that has fuel left in it. I'd say you need to clean the carb.
Check your Distributor Cap for hairline crack. Or just replace it. Start eliminating that part. Then go to something else. But sounds like it has a crack in it.
Tracking inside the cap ? It looks solid but you don't know without testing it. What about the ohmic values of the high tension leads its 10K ohms per 12 inches I was told 👍
My friend, you could make installing shoelaces the most enjoyable event of the week! Your enthusiasm is true medicine!

Thank you Buckin! I just want to say thank you for what you do and your message of kindness.
Hey big Al. Thanks for helping these old fords going. Thanks for another great video Bucking Billy Ray.
Thank you Al for hangin out with Buckin. Look forward to you guys finding the issue. Had a couple issues similar to this with my 78 Ford. One ended up being the pickup coil in the distributer and the other was the shear pin on the gear of the distributer let loose. Love ya Buckin. 🌲❤🌲👊🪓
One of my favorite teachers of all time! "If it doesn't give me the poof near the finger we know we've jumped a tooth" Got it! Love ya man!
I’m looking forward to the next video. You’re close to getting this old girl running.

me too thx pal
You rock Buckin!!! My favorite Canadian apart from Ricky, Julian and bubbles. They don't teach me anything about trees or chain sharpening though haha.
P.s. please replace the coil on the dump truck...
A carb rebuild is a simple fix. The needle valve is sticking open and flooding you out.

Thank you for sharing Buckin ✨
you bet
I haven’t seen a spark tester that looks like that in a LONG TIME. Good show Al!

Okay, just saw al. ( hi al ) glad you've got him around.
lookin good!.... even though you got new parts off the shelf, they could be faulty!....thanks 4 video. be kind.

Btw I'll be 45 next month. So I'm going off how long I've been driving them.
Thank you Billy Ray.
Hmmm I think you may have read my last comments in the last 460 vid buddy ! Good stuff Buckin !
Buckin old ford trucks are 30's and 40's to me but love the video the same!!

Hi buckin the plugs are wet a fouled and cylinders are washed down with gas change the oil and the plugs with hotter plugs gap and try again
I had the same thing happen with my old International 610A345 V8

Floats in the carb are either miss adjusted or are stuck letting too much fuel in the engine.

I would love to come help you work on this truck. I love those trucks.

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Their's something almost addictive about bringing them old trks back and running them again

Word to buckin timing chains don't jump
Yes they do!! I am living proof!!! Had to do timing chain teplacement in mall parking lot...lol
It’s “supposed to be” roughly 23deg advanced. Most engines are, although I’m not versed on the 460.
I had a Ford once 😂 and the crank sensor went out and then there's no way it will run. Are you getting spark?
Your carb needs looked at carb needles are probly hard and not sealing closed or you floats could be fuel soaked and not floating up to close the needles.
The suspense is killing me
⚓️ on the thumbs 👍 up
I have a Pioneer Farmsaw that isn't oiling. Would you happen to know how the oiling system works on the pioneer farmsaw and P series?
Sounds like the needle for the floats are sticking or something is stuck in the needle seat
Poor ol green can't wait to see her going down the road again
Hello AL hope u are well sir!
Old school trouble shooting. Methods work but being able to check spark with a meter can cut some time
Spark in the atmosphere and none under compression 🤔
You said you put in a new distributor ,is it possible it's 180 degrees out ?? Fireing on tdc exhaust stroke . Iv done that true story
I don't think so because his old mate had it running fine before it stopped 🤔
You need Vic grip garage lol he wants to stop by anyway
Those carbs have floats, and if it has set for a long time with fuel in the bowl it can cause the same problem as a lawnmower engine that has fuel left in it. I'd say you need to clean the carb.
check the float and needle, they must be sticky.
Its either your a Tooth or two off on your distributor or your timing chain is stretched
Hi Al. 👍
Get her going!
Is it a manual choke your jets must be stuck open
there is a song in there somewhere
🍻
For 16 years? Yup kindness is knowing ya neighbor if they want to be known...
You could have the float on the carb stuck causing the carb to put fuel
Love u buddy
love wins
Ignition box gets hot on fords let them cool then it starts or replace it !
Just had to swap a 6.5 in my wood hauler ffs

Just use a screwdriver and use it to connect both studs on solenoid and it’ll start.
You’re flooding because the rain is pouring into the carb!
Ahwoooo get one 👍
Mine did coil was intermittent bad. Went hei starts everytime
