You guys are Great!! Love to you both!
Thanks so much!
“The real world” I think is actually the off-grid world :). The city/suburb world is a complex system of constructs that I’m so happy to get out of.
Couldn't agree more! 👍
Super to hear about your thoughts on all of this folks. I would say what I have learned in going on two years of off-grid is: It will cost more than you thought. Research the ins and outs of permits especially! I had hoped to have two buildings up and working on them within a year. Yup not realistic. Everything as you mentioned takes longer. Also filming for youtube definitely slows things down but I have so enjoyed that part as well!
It's all part of the journey, Don! You're doing great! Stay positive and everything will work out.
@@MidlifePrices Thanks for your encouragement Brian.
Know yourself is good advice. I’ll add two more that come to mind: 1. Real life still exists and competes for the same time as DIY (be it laundry, cooking, family, illness, work, etc etc etc). 2. Things often take longer when it’s DIY… much longer LOL. 🙂. Oh wait, adding one more: 3. The build has its own timeline. Recognizing that may serve one better than having a timeline that doesn’t turn out to be true.
You got it!
Brian and Pam. Tiny buildings arent as easy as we thought. Nor the ability to find help completing it. We started on 7/2020 amd we still arent in it. We are very close, but then there are challenges with the RV. We have been in an RV since 2019. They trailer has made us sick and then trailer is also falling apart. We would completed our homes before even moving if done over again. We totally understand where your coming from.
We hear you! Keep plugging away. Everyone's gotta do what works for them. Just try to live with what you've got and make the progress you can. Good luck!
Wahoo 😁🥳🤠👍
Yay!
Great update guys....
Thanks!
Good point about the RV cover and the summer sun vs winter sun!
Thanks, Hélène. We definitely should have done one, but that ship has sailed! But the sun info definitely applies to the house orientation.
Who's this Brian guy he seems new to this :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
🤣👏👍
THERE is NO TYPICAL anything. NO ONE is typical / normal
Good point!
A good talk, folks. Like you Brian, I had no illusions that we would get everything done right away. And like Pam, Robber had a shorter timeline and expectation. our experience I think roughly parallels yours. We also built our own trailer-mounted solar generator (taking yours as an inspiration) and have been steadily moving along since. Unlike you, rather than buying a travel trailer, we built our own temporary cabin that we call our Sh'ouse. It is 16 x 24 and it is cramped. But once our home is built we can convert it in to whatever we want. Just like your home, it plugs right into our solar generator. We have gotten along with one or both of us working full time, too. As for things taking longer than you plan, yes, we experience that, too, but some of that is due to increasing age as well. We never expected or even wanted to become UA-cam famous and determined early on that we would never monetize. Whole-heartedly agree that you should know yourself. We'll stick with ya'. Maybe some day we can meet. Wondering how Bill and Yvonne are doing. Cheers to 4 years! E-Chip and Robber.
Thanks, y'all! It does sound like a pretty similar experience. Thanks for watching, and good luck to you, too. Would love to meet you sometime.
Hi Brian and Pam, Thanks for sharing your experience. Can you provide me with the company that built your solar system? Thanks, Steve
We built it ourselves with a neighbor! It's a combination of mostly Schneider gear with repurposed Tesla Model S batteries and Canadian Solar panels.
Great information guys. It is definitely important to know what you're getting yourself into. Not everyone is built for the off grid lifestyle.
Definitely!
Also a lot MORE maintenance on vehicles if your off-grid property is a couple of hours on poorly maintained rocky dirt roads!
Entirely possible! 😄
Nice sharing video. You got a nice shout out from Red and April Off-grid in their roofing video they posted today. Brian did all the thinking, and they copied him : )
Thanks, David. Yes, nice of Red and April to mention us, and we're happy to be of help to others. That honestly is one of the big reasons we document all of this!
Excellent video, Sharing your thoughts
Thanks, Abid!
How are things out there? I bet you guys are happy you have water storage!!! with what's going on!!
Going ok here. A little slow, since I've taken a job now, but still making some progress. Thanks for checking in!
