    One type of 22 cal rifle that was not covered in this video is pump action, and a pump action with a long barrel is as accurate as a bolter, I'm in my 70's, been shooting 22's since age 7, and in my teens my brother and I had no problem hitting beer cans at 400 yards with bolt action 22lr rifles, and when you know your rifle and shoot every day, you becom consistent with shot placement you can call your shots. For us at 200 yards hitting 2"" bulls were just warming up, 3 to 400 yards was normal practice, and at times for fun 800 yards lob shots were doable most of the time with only one drawback of having to walk that far to put targets back up. 22lr rifles are very accurate at long range if you know your gun, and all the above were done with old style open iron sights, no scopes needed.

    I can load my 10-22 with Stingers, and have a viable home defense weapon. I can load my bolt with shorts, and take small game at short range with barely a sound. I can load my my match bolt with the right ammo and take game up to medium in a pinch out to about 80 yards while maintaining sub-MOA accuracy. If I had to pick one to do all it would probably be my match grade bolt because I have practiced enough to do all 3 with it. I would still want a sidearm if I was in a close quarters SD situation.

    I'm in the UK and as you probably know we are quite restricted on firearms, however .22 rimfire is not too bad. I have a Ruger 10/22, for pest control and I find that it is accurate and reliable. I thought about lever or pump but decided that as we often went lamping in the back of the gamekeepers pickup pulling out a long magazine and feeding rounds in one at a time was not practical, much easier to dump the empty mag and slap in another. My 10/22 was a standard wood stock stainless model originally but now has a synthetic pistol grip skeleton stock (Choate I believe, my wife kindly bought it as a birthday present), it also has a Volquartsen trigger kit, auto bolt release, extended mag release and bolt buffer. Top that with a 3-9x56 scope with homemade objective lens shroud (cut down aerosol cap), with a moderator as well this is a marvellous reliable, lightweight rabbit gun.

    Love the motor comment, many folks think ist 1moa at 500 yards and its not designed to be fired beyond 100 yards..if you need to shoot to 500 yards spend the money and buy a good centerfire 22 cal rifle or larger..

    Had a Winchester lever action, with the magazine under the barrel, I could hit a standard size paint can at 125 yard, with a 2-3” drop. It was poorly balanced, really top heavy. Using a hollow point long rifle, neat hole on entry, 2” hole on exit. My single shot Cooey, long barrel I could hit an apple at 125 yard. You need to understand the basics. We’d throw beer cans in the air and picked them off. Farm life has changed a lot since the sixties.

    We have a couple of plain Jane Henry's (with cheap scopes) and a Rossi lever action...the rifles are accurate enough, easily maintained, and cheap to shoot as our primary plinkers...the one thing I question was the statement that lever actions are ammo sensitive, no idea what that about, ours eat any kind of .22lr...we're seniors, so see little need for an ultra accurate .22 target rifle, and the semi-autos would be little gain...a bolt action might be nice, but again, the small gain in accuracy might not be needed...we can hit a squirrel at 50 yards, that is plenty...

    I am a left-handed Australian so any .22LR for me is going to be severely limited. Not only because of our stupid laws here in Australia but also because i am left-handed and not many .22LR rifles come in a left-handed option. So any semi-automatic rifle is out of the question (because of our gun laws (thanks John Howard)) and any (tactical) target shooter usually only comes in right-handed variants.

    Ok guys, I think alot of the time videos like these have problems. Not so much with this video. However, in years past we used to just read our father's gun magazine when he was done. Today I guess that's mostly video. From my perspective unless your kid is a super prodigy, you dad's out there know who they are. 😉 You will most likely buy your kids first rifle from Rural king/walmart, etc. Nothing bad, you just don't normally give your a $500 -$1000+, gun to start on. What gun did I ask for first? A 12 guage shot gun. If I told my age then it would probably cause a riot. My dad started teaching me gun safety at 4 years old. Have you started? Don't just take some guy off the internets word for it, that a certain gun has this or that flaw. It works this way in my other hobby too. Research it yourself. When you have 3 or 4 opinions that agree, you might have a good answer. Bolt action, semi auto, pump action? Look before you buy. As a buddy to let you shoot his. Don't be fooled though, a 22lr and 22 short, will travel over a mile, but only really accurate at 100 to 200 yards. Depends on the shooter and the rifle. 22 mag twice as far. Know your target, clearly see it, and know what is behind it. A $100 dollar walmart savage may be your starting gun, or a $250 or more ruger 10/22. I own both types. I think Ruger is better. That is just my humble opinion. You do the research.

    Also your comment about Short, Long or Long Rifle Cartridges, you said that Shorts or Longs may have sticky extraction. That is true for Shorts, however Longs use the same casing as Long Rifles but with a Short bullet usually 29 grains versus the Long Rifle bullets which weigh 36 to 40 grains depending on the particular load. Also DO MORE RESEARCH BEFORE MAKING VIDEOS.

    • @tubeonline629
      @tubeonline629 29 днів тому

      What he was talking about is if you shoot alot of shorts then you can get buildup in the chamber from the end of the cartridge so when you shoot long rifle after that buildup the cartridge is longer and may cause the chamber to be tight because of the buildup from the shorts which can cause extraction problems or even feeding issues.

    for the survivalist,, a 22lr rifle is a waste of time add money. Instead, get a #250, 3/4 lb CMMG or Ciener 22lr conversion unit for your shorty 223AR-15. This saves you 40c per shot of snapshooting practice. in a year, that pays for the 22lr conversion unit and the 223 silencer that you SHOULD have on your fighting rifle. The caliber swap takes just 20 Seconds.
    I've owned 8 of these unis over the past 45 years and all of them grouped 2" at 50m and the 223 and 22lr point of impact on the target were never more than 2" apart, center to center of the widest apart groups. That's perfectly usable accuracy for foraging,
    The 1 in 9" rifling twist in the AR WILL properly stabilize the very long 60 gr bullet of Aquilas 60 gr subsonic ammol 40 gr subsonics often dont reliably cycle 22lr autoloading actions. The bullet is so long that it's put-up in 22 SHORT cases This load hits just as hard as normal' "High speed" 22lr ammo, which has supersonic crack when fired thru the 22lr conversion unit and the 223 silencer. For shtf, you dont want that, but you can practice with normal 22lr ammo. Hold the bolt shut on the 22 unit and the silencer makes subsonic 22 ammo BB gun quiet.
    This subosoncc 22 load lets you brain men, dogs, hogs and deer to 50m, and cattle and horses to 20m, Only take temple shots at these larger critters. This subsonic ammo is still (eventually) lethal from 125m.with body hits. The 60 gr 223 softpoints, the "Partition", made by Nosler, is a better deer load than the Ky rifle, 30 carbine or 44-40 lever action ever was, and those loads have taken a lot of deer and hogs.
    The 223 softpoitns let you brain elk and moose to 150m.. With 69 gr match bhp, scope, trigger job, anti-cant bubble-level, free float the 10.5" AR in 223 will snipe effectively to 400m, that can't be said of a Garand with iron sights and ball ammo, cause you cant SEE a camoed man in vegetation with the naked eye at that range. You can't hit what you cant see
    A .Ruger 1022 does not handle like ANY fighting rifle. Its sights, safety, bolt lock, mag release are far different. Anything you do to the AR is also automatically done to the 22 unit. Silencer, night sights, scope, trigger job. So it can save you $1000+ over having to do al those things to both a 22lr and a fighting rifle. The 22 unit bolt assembly and one magazine fit nicely in the thigh pocket of your cammies. Remove it from its plastic case and wrap it and the mag separately in a shop towel, so that it doesn't rattle or hurt your leg when you low-crawl.
    it is true that a lot of Ciener 22 units need $50-100 of gunmithing to be reliable. Every300 rds of 22lr you put thru it. fire a couple of 223 rds thru the gun, so that the 223's higher heat and blast effect cleans the 22lr residues out of the 223 gas-tube. It's simply not true that you can't get adequate accuracy out of these 22 conversion units.

    • @tubeonline629
      @tubeonline629 29 днів тому

      Adequate accuracy is not good enough for most folks, .22 lr firearms normally have a 1:16 twist rifling which you can't and don't want that in a .223/556 cartridge. And a 1:7 or 1:9 twist found in most .223/556 is way to fast of a twist rate for .22lr it will harm your velocity and accuracy.
