    These 5 finger gloves are very good, with a couple considerations. I've been using these for HEMA sparring with the longsword, messer and sabre and have been pleased with their performance. Make sure to read my review above for a much more in-depth analysis of their pros/cons

    I would kike to know more about the wrist mobility, as thats usually a problem. Cuffs cant be too wide for some techniques, and therefore usually short. Unless its sparring gloves.

    Can just about fit the index finger of my unmodified Gabriel 2.0 through the finger ring of a Blackfencer synthetic sidesword, did a couple sparring sessions without issues. I am wondering though if the additional padding on the 2.1 version might cause the index finger to get stuck in some sidesword hilts, seeing as the 2.0 (tested with size XL) are already a tight fit. For longsword, I definitely wish there was more padding on the top side of the index finger.

      Hmm yeah I’m not sure how much extra padding would affect fit. I wish we had more sideswords for me to be able to test that.
      I do know that extra padding on side of index is a priority for future revisions. It’s definitely the weakest part of the glove for me right now too

      @@HEMASimianSo far, I've tested the gloves with about half a dozen sideswords and all those did fit but with very little leeway in some cases. Adding those small soft 3mm oval foam pads supplied by the seller seems ok without adding noticeable bulk. Nevertheless, I've only added one of those pads to my dominant hand glove right where the index finger starts, so underneath the 4th plate when counting from the tip of the finger. The side of the index finger close to the big knuckle has taken the most pain so far, nothing that made me stop mid training but still sore 2 weeks later. That was fairly hard sparring vs. a full size Sigi King Feder and my sparring partner was specifically hacking at my hands multiple times with force and intent. At my then unmodified gloves. Looking forward to seeing if the extra padding I added just now will fix the so far only issue I had protection-wise.

      @@heirihunziker the sigi king is also probably the hardest hitting sword I’ve seen that’s still tournament approved so that’s pretty decent. Glad your hand is safe from one, my shoulder wasn’t

    How is the inner glove secured to the gauntlet? I know they're riveted at the fingertips but is it just the bands holding them in place? I ask because I want to know how much effort is involved in replacing the inner glove if I ever needed to.

      hey sorry for the late reply. We're just settling in from a 1,000km move.
      It does seem like the tips of the fingers of the underglove are mechanically attached to the tips of the fingers. However the palm portions are just attached via straps.
      the cuff fabric portion is sewn into the glove, and those are attached to the wrist plates via more loops & straps.
      It doesn't feel like it's completely un-replaceable to me, but it would be a bit involved I think.

    With exception of whats mentioned above, how are they compared to infinity gloves ? are the plates as heavy, do you feel more or less of a wack for the mostpart with exception of getting hit in the exposed spot

    Do you think that the plastic is too thin? That's the biggest complaint that I've heard from the Gabriel's so far.

    • @HEMASimian
      @HEMASimian  10 місяців тому

      I don't think so. I've been using mine very regularly since this video and I have no cracks or deformation in the plastic anywhere. It can be thin in areas but I haven't found that to be a problem at all.
      I think the biggest issue is the side of the index could use a bit more padding, the plastic being thicker wouldn't change much as there needs to be better absorption after the impact load gets spread from the hard surface.

    whats the thumb mobility like? as a German longsword practitioner i find being able to extend your thumb on the flat important, so far the thokk weapon master satisfy that but like you said in the beginning of video they're a thick glove and remove any decent tactile benefit!

      these have the best thumb mobility out of any hard-shell glove I've ever had, I frequently transition between regular grip & thumb grip with no trouble with these.
