    The plate-scaling for each size is such a great design choice! I remember your review on the Infinity Gauntlets that the plates were a huge obstacle

    I picked up a pair of these in December and used them in competition a few weekends back. I had been avoiding sword and buckler tournament because I didn't have a pair of gloves I felt good about on my sword hand, or I used an arming sword and a clam shell. With Gabriel gloves, I was able to use my side sword (without a knuckle bow) and it felt great.
    I did decide to use them for the steel longsword tournament and it wasn't a problem at all (totally understand it was a calculated risk). I really do enjoy the added dexterity, but I don't think I would risk making blade grabbing actions unless it was a solid bet. I think event that level of risk would be too much for me.
    Great review, Brittany!

    I only got the Infinity gloves because I thought I was going to attend the SoCa=l swordfight and wanted something immediately, and a guy had then locally. I had my heart set on the Gabriels so this is a good review.
    I do 3 swords currently, so having 5 finger gloves made sense for my use case.

    I've got the Infinity Gloves at the moment, and an issue I have with them is that the angle that the thumb plates rotate in is off by almost 45 degrees compared to my own thumbs- do these gauntlets match your thumb's angle pretty well?

    • @BrittanySaintLeafy
      @BrittanySaintLeafy  2 місяці тому

      I found these to be very ergonomic and well matched to my own natural articulation. I can’t say 100% that it would be the same for you, since everyone is built a little differently, but I find these way more comfortable than the Infinity. I did a review on those too, and wasn’t nearly as happy with them.

    I am curious about the wrist mobility. A number of protective gloves have plates that prevent my wrists moving laterally. What I mean is if the palm is facing downwards, moving the fingers left to right. In the system I practice, that's a super common direction of movement for one of our basic/main intercepts, and if it locks out movement in that direction it pretty much makes the intercept/deflection impossible and the gloves unusable when wanting to improve the historicity of the system.
    Do you know if the Gabriels allow a full range of lateral movement in the wrist?

    Hey Brittany, fellow swordsperson from Switzerland here. First, thank you for the review. it‘s greatly appreciated, as I was really looking forward to someone in the community making one.
    One tiny question though, if you don’t mind: how would one go best about getting in touch with CHFG regarding custom measurements? I do also fall in the not-standard sized hands category, so that route would definitely be preferable.
    Thanks in advance! :)

    Thank you for your amazing review!!! So do you think, those tiny leather straps will be a weak part of the gloves, where they could easily get damaged?

    • @BrittanySaintLeafy
      @BrittanySaintLeafy  6 місяців тому

      It’s possible, everything is prone to damage when being struck with a piece of narrow steel. However, if one of the small leather straps on the fingers break, it doesn’t end in catastrophic failure of the glove. The leather straps aren’t the only thing holding the outer shell to the inner glove. The inner glove is affixed to the shell in other places. It looks like it was designed to have multiple failsafes should a piece break.

    • @heirihunziker
      @heirihunziker 6 місяців тому

      The leather straps start to loosen after a short while and keep falling off the glove, and those straps break at the seam quite easily. I'm getting tired of having to search for them on the floor and of having to stitch the ends together when they open up so I'm going to replace them with elastic bands.

    All you have to do to keep the Infinity gloves fingers from turning is wrap some athletic tape above the 2nd knuckle on each finger. Simple fix and I haven't been hurt since I did that.

    • @BrittanySaintLeafy
      @BrittanySaintLeafy  6 місяців тому +1

      I’m glad to know that worked for you. The pair I received had actually been taped just as you described since I got them from someone else secondhand. They were still a major problem for me. I then took the tape off and it didn’t seem any better or any worse. But also, like, I shouldn’t have to use tape to make an expensive product work. Overall, they were a disappointment for me but some people like them, and that’s okay too.

      @@Bear_Feces Mostly yes. I've had some issues with my sidesword guard and my longsword should have a bit longer handler to grip it properly. Also they need several sparring sessions to become soft enought. Once you solve this problems, they are by far the best gloves I've had into the "five fingers" category

    I saw you were able to use a finger ring with the glove. How practical and comfortable was that? It’s so hard to find a good glove for sidesword.

    • @BrittanySaintLeafy
      @BrittanySaintLeafy  6 місяців тому +1

      For the rapier that I showed, it wouldn’t be super practical. It would fit but get kind of locked in. However, I think with a sidesword designed for sparring it would have a larger space to accommodate the individual finger more comfortably. It would really depend on the model of the sword though. But generally speaking, these gloves are a great choice for doing sidesword.

      Honestly, I’ve found flat or mildly curved flexible chest protectors worked best for me. Anything with cups, bulges, or uh… general boob shapes, are something I personally will steer clear of.
      Design Cryptic HEMA is in the process of making impressive chest protectors, and her design so far looks awesome. It isn’t readily available yet though. Look again the finger piece has these spaces to make them move and the finger is exposed right there. When you make a fist they close "the gaps"almost find but when you extend your finders they are vulnerable.

    • @BrittanySaintLeafy
      @BrittanySaintLeafy  6 місяців тому

      I’ve had to read this a couple times to try to determine what part of the glove you’re referring to, but based on what you wrote my response is that I’m not sure how often I would need to worry about extending my fingers during a sword fight if my hands are closed well over the hilt of my sword. So it seems like a non-issue to me, unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying.
