I have a proposal for the titan ceremony, a drone shot of all us bastards bowing and chanting like the ewoks at C3PO would be pretty epic and hilarious.
After being called a hobbit by Rex for all these years did Daniel just make a Lord of the Rings reference with the “It burns us” phrase lol it’s about time.
So by using Glenlivet pods and Copenhagen pouches a person could get their alcohol and nicotine fix taken care of with no mess? Anally might still be the way to do both.....
Hey guys, so there is going to be a new tariff on Scotch. Firstly, WTF. But secondly, does that mean i need to stock up now or will the price increase not be too dramatic? Love to hear your thoughts.
Big fan of your channel gentleman. As someone who knows essentially nothing about whiskey, I would like to ask- does how you sip it change how it feels/tastes?
I'd love it if you guys would compare and contrast the Oppidan Sea and Smoke with Berkshire Bourbon's Smoke and Peat. Both are finished in Islay casks(I'm going to guess Laphroaig.). I primarily enjoy Bourbon, but do have a soft spot for Islay Scotch (When I feel like I can afford it.) Some part of me loves experiments with marrying the two. To be fair, I have both Smoke + Sea on the counter and enjoy Smoke and Peat more. Smoke + Sea has so many grains in it and so much going on that nothing is bad, but the lack of focus leaves it a little amorphous with nothing being really great.
Daniel sounds like he got a touch of the airplane travel sickness... which is why I keep to myself in airports, trains, buses... everywhere mostly... It honestly was a true pleasure to get to finally meet both of you in person. I hope you brief tenure in Rhode Island and Connecticut gave you a taste of New England. As ever, I would love to show you both some of the local Rhode Island entertainment and whiskey places should you come back to the area sometime. You know how to contact me and I hope you both have braced yourselves for... THE BASTARDS BALL! I unfortunately could not afford the travel expenses nor the ticket to attend, but I will be visiting the area sometime next month and I look forward to talking with you both on your home turf when I pick up my bottles.
Hey guys...I know I'm late to the party but I'm here anyway...I'm trying to find out some useful information about Oppidan, but their website provides what I would politely call fluff, with the odd "cool guy" references. I truly enjoy the Cask Strength single barrel (416 & 417) and the four grain small batch is VERY good to me. I cannot find anything on the single barrel or four grain on their site. So I say all that to ask if you have any info about their process and products beyond the smoke and sea I'd be very interested....do they source, distell their own, what's their history and such. So if you indeed know the folks there could you pass on that there is at least one fan who would like to know much more about them. Thank you.
Rex is correct - they are Glenlivet mixed cocktails in each capsule. I've seen some misconception that they are just giant shots, which they are NOT. Someone I follow on Twitter actually went to the location in London to get/try them and they confirmed it's a mixed Glenlivet cocktail (three kinds). Definitely want to try them though; such a neat idea. ([side note: there is a company that is also doing these pods but with water I think somewhere in the US of anyone wants to track down what these pods actually feel/taste like)]
guys all it takes to make those pods is sodium alginate and calcium lactate gluconate. it's called reverse spherification. I'd be happy to help you make them. (im in San Antonio) We may need some liquid nitrogen though, as i doubt that they would freeze in a regular freezer, being high proof alcohol and all. but yeah. if you're interested, please hit me up!
That Oppidan is super young, about 2 1/2 years on the bottle I had last year. I felt the youth came through in a bad way. I was also thrown off since it's labeled a "straight bourbon" without an age statement, which implies at least 4 years old. But when I asked the master distiller, he said due to the fact that it was finished in Islay barrels, the labeling rules fall under a different law that forbids them from putting an age statement on the bottle, even though normally a straight bourbon less than four years is supposed to have one. In the phone call, he told me it was about 2 1/2 years, at least the batch I had. Go figure.
I agree that the Oppidan seems young, and I suspect that they hoped the Islay barrel aging would cover how young it is and let them bring it to market faster. I wonder if they stave aged it as well. Maybe some time in a small barrel would do it some good. If you get it cheap enough, it might make an interesting barrel aged cocktail. At the price I got it for($40 U.S.), I wouldn't use it for such. That you got in touch with an actual master distiller about it seems like a big claim, but it's a big broad world and I don't know you, so I'll believe it for now
@@TreyYork1 it's a small craft distillery north of Chicago and I'm in the area. I believe they are or at least were at the time I called them, a very small shop. It wasn't like calling Beam or Heaven Hill and talking to their master distiller.
@@TreyYork1 I never bought another bottle but it did give me the idea to add a splash of peated whisky to my less interesting bourbons and other nonpeated malts. Nice way to spruce things up for a change of pace.
You are not wrong about The Glenlivet's marketing strategy, they and many Pernod Ricard products are very experimental when it comes to marketing. Their techniques and innovations are inquisitive when it comes to whisk(e)ys . They have the mystery series of The Glenlivet which is intriguing, but the new marketing Point of Sale materials for Red Breast don't even Feature the name or distillery pushing the impression that it is something to be explored not explained.
Hola Gents. Hoping the Hobbit & Mooch can shed some light on the current market panic around increasing US tariffs and projected impact on Scotch prices? How realistic is the negative hype? Should I sell the car, the lawn mower, and the dog so I can stock up on Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, and Bowmore? #worried #slainte
Of course, they pretty much say that these would be my gateway into Bourbon, and of course, this is like the only two Bourbons I can not find in Sweden. Import roulette here I go?
I love the briney (not sure if that’s a word) flavor of Islay whiskey but for my taste it’s not enough. Has anyone experimented with filling barrels with ocean water then dumping and filling with whiskey??
Crowded barrel review please ! Ran by a couple BASTARDS but local to austin and make some great whiskey ! Cool facility also you guys should check it out.
I've always wondered why y'all always referred to yourselves as "Rex and Daniel" (in that order). When.... A. Left to right on the screen it's wrong. B. Alphabetically, it's wrong. C. Chronologically, since Daniel startes the channel, it's wrong. Just wondering....
TIP:: The Glenlivet pods are best consumed as a suppository.
Do NOT do a video review of this method, for the love of God!
Boof two and I'll watch
Like anything with advertising, it's not always the product that needs to sell... it's the name on said product. ;)
I have a proposal for the titan ceremony, a drone shot of all us bastards bowing and chanting like the ewoks at C3PO would be pretty epic and hilarious.
Then have it morph into Atlas The Titan who holds up the world! I mean it is a world of magnificent whiskey bastards after all. ;)
Thanks for saying my business name so many times! Love it!!
"Rex is a treasure." Best left buried in a chest on a beach along with an unreadable map.

High West Campfire fires great with BBQ/ burgers in my opinion.

This might be a little weird, but are there whiskeys you would recommend, for Boilermakers?

Rex being right on something like that is like the blind squirrel
One of my favourite bourbons, one of the few I actually like
Daniel, is a “Mix-together” different than a “Blend” ??? ;)
A blend is a mix of whiskys from many distilleries at least by scotch definition.
Upvoting for the review of the Scotch Tide Pods.

Needs a review of the smokey monkey shoulder! Sounds kinda intriguing
ua-cam.com/video/HEqxlT2lCBE/v-deo.html they did already :)
They reviewed the smokey monkey about a month ago.
@@Ando2k10 but that episode was weird and awkward with out the rex in it
Everytime Daniel coughs or tells a story Rex should get to mooch an extra drink.
