In this place known as “the cold pole”, the biggest challenge relates to the nature of the soil: the “permafrost”. With the warming of the climate, this frozen soil is melting and the buildings are threatened with collapse.

i beat nobody thought that prospect possible when the city was founded.
within 10 years, the residences will be able to don a bikini and get a tan.
Climate predictions have failed time and time again for the past 50 years.
Climate change is not a threat like climate cultists make it out to be.
It’s really not that cold in comparison! Think the very coldest this week was 2°c at night!
Didn't Yakutsk recently record its coldest temp ever? -81?
I guess mentioning that would destroy the narrative...eh !!
@@ahminmabed5166это очень старое видео, в конце 90-х и начало 2000-х
This is how a very good documentary should be done. No long intro, no loud music, succinct and informative, and objective. No sensationalism. Beautiful
right!!!
they intentionally made our city look poor and depressing... And the documentary is very old as well
Love it when videos are straight to the point!
@@dimasryr3027 I think the depressing part comes with the freezing territory. Nothing can be done about that perception. The poor part, idk, never been there nor plan on going
@@prg4647 you can look at the other documentarys or vlogs and you’ll see the difference, they use heavy dark toned filters here or actually the cameras are just that bad, cuz this documentary is obviously old, and I’m not even talking about summertime, perhaps you think we only have winter?
Hello everyone😀👋🏼 I was born and live in Yakutia, I also lived in another country for ten years. so I want to say that this documentary is quite darkly aesthetic, but it does not reflect the actual warmth that can exist in -50. Yeap, it is also very warm in Yakutia, and this warmth is expressed in people, in kindness, in love for nature, and in the desire to help anyone. We have a very rich culture and traditions. Yakut people are very close to nature, both in winter and in summer. Yes, we have summer too, usually it's 30 degrees of heat on average. In summer, we like to relax in nature, swim in the river Lena and sing songs to the guitar by the campfire.💕Welcome visit Yakutia.🥰
In fact, we are not so gloomy. Good luck and kindness to everyone!🍃
How is it possible to become 30degrees in the summer if the city’s built on ice? 😮
I just watched the documentary. Would love to visit and witness those temps. I’m here depressed in 27 degree weather. Kudos to you guys.
I just wonder before I even finish the documentary, what foods do you eat there guessing all food is imported or most cause it’s nearly impossible to grow food there correct or have cattle?
@@kruiseorbruiseim a local from that region not far from Yakutsk. Well we have all seasons spring, summer autumn and long winter. So we can grow all vegetable crops, pick berries and mushrooms etc. In villages people are engaged in agriculture. We have milk products, meat and fish so you won't die of hunger😂
@@vimbosaDuring short summertime, permafrost does not have time to melt completely.
The fact that we get free documentaries from Free Documentary on UA-cam is priceless ... keeping the education and knowledge alive. 🙏🙏🙏
I am wildly impressed by the people of that region. Their resilience, levelheadedness, down to earth attitude, problem solving skills... and so much more... yes, I totally admire that.
Check out Norilsk Russia. A city that’s literally cut off from the rest of the country in north Russia. It’s very cold. Very polluted (from all the nickel mining) and very depressing.

I moved from Atlanta to Minneapolis in the winter and I’ve never felt so clear. The cold brought me to life.

@@rosesippel2932 wow! Glad to know that you do too.
U must be in a major city to have internet in Kenya
@@matthewharris214 your guess is right. I live in the capital, Nairobi. Internet penetration as of 2023 stands at 32.7%, that's roughly 17.86 million internet users. It's not that expensive and again, with 5mbps going for $20 a month, that's affordable to anyone interested.
But excess of everything is bad.
I highly recommend the channel kiun b . A girl from Yakut documents her life. It’s really interesting
For 80 years old, that first woman looks amazing!
No sun
Cold keeps skin stretched, No so in hot climates where you get wrinkles.
So blessed I get to escape to Yakutsk with this magical documentary. Thank you
This is like a completely different look on life, fascinating. My heart wrenches for the frostbite victims, very sad.
I think it's more climate cycling than global warming. It warms up, then gets cold again. The Earth knows how to balance. We humans are at its mercy. Excellent documentary!

Watching from Zambia 🇿🇲
I’m already feeling cold just watching this docie 🥶
It is 10°c where i am now and i have been cold all day, i find it truly fascinating to hear people talking about -27° being a mild day 🤔🫣
And where I am in Bury, Lancashire and it's 23c in my bungalow and my hands are cold but, then,I am 69 years old.
-27 isn't exactly mild to me, but it's not very cold to me, either. It's all what you're used to, I'm sure. I live on the Canadian prairies, -40 is normal in the winter, or colder, so -27 doesn't seem that bad to me.
If it's only like -20 here, in winter, that feels like a really warm day, though! I know it's technically not, but it really does feel like it if it's been weeks of -40.
Im from Texas so anything below 50 degrees Fahrenheit to me is cold.
Omg... I can't imagine living there!!😢
I wish people of Yakutsk a good health!!

Watching from a city called durban in South Africa. Also known as the warmest place to be. You can literally walk around in shorts and a T shirt deep in winter. Few years ago the lowest temperature went down to 9 degrees Celsius. Till this day people still talk about how cold it was that day.

Aweeeee, Cape Town local here! I find these Yakutsk/Oymyakon documentaries absolutely fascinating. Where we live is absolutely the opposite right? I almost dream of going to a place like this just because it's so different. It almost seems magical...
9 degrees would sure not be cold to me. I live on the Canadian prairies. It's normally -40 C a lot of the time in our winters, I've seen it as cold as the -50s.
Winter is coming before winter it's good to watch this documentary ✌️
This was a very interesting documentary! You never know what people’s lives are like in other parts of the world.

Quality documentary. Got to laugh a bit to myself at the hospital staff member being proud of all the work he and the team has done, but leaving all the blankets open to the patients. No worries, it's only -50d C. (!)
I laughed at this too. I'm not sure if the patients were even asked their permission to film, or pull the blankets back and reveal all.. Lol
Thought the same!
😂 I laughed too - not at the patients but how casual the doc was leaving amputation pts uncovered after he stripped blankets off them.😊
Most interesting documentary of all i've watched till now.

Where you from?
51°F here in York PA today where I live. I looked at Yakutsk on my iPhone it’s 18°F but in Oymyakon, it’s 4° in the morning Monday so as of today, Oymyakon is colder than Yakutsk. It’s amazing that the locals can withstand extreme cold in every wintertime!
I guess the difference is that Oymyakon is a village, not a city. But yeah, Oymyakon is considered the coldest constantly inhabited place on Earth where people live.

I agree with Rudolf Tchang's thoughts about global warming. Indeed, it is a cyclical phenomenon.
Looks like northern Minnesota. Where winters last 7 to 8 months from first snow fall to when the snow goes away. Places that get this cold are deadly. Makes the hands and body not work even of the mind is willing.

There's a lot here, but somehow the most shocking is seeing the doctor casually ripping the blankets off of his confused patients to display their injuries. They've suffered plenty, allow them some dignity!
I was actually looking in the comments to see if anyone else noticed this too!

Interesting. I am not sure that I could deal with the cold... but it is equally concerning that the city could be at risk from climate change, howsoever caused... it seems to me that if the presence of two people in the permafrost lab could cause the ambient temperature to rise by 1 degree in such a short space of time, that things are a little more sensitive than some of the hierarchy are letting on... have to see. 🤔
