Super Mario Allstars wasnt just a collection of the NES Mario games. They remade all 4 games entirely. All the graphics, sounds and music have been recreated in 16bit quality. This was also the first non-japanese release of the real Mario Bros 2 game which was named "The Lost Levels".
Interestingly, Miyamoto is said to have greatly preferred the US Mario 2 to the Japanese version, a claim that seems believable when one considers how the Shyguy enemies are now a big part of Mario canon in spite of originating in a re-skin game. Same goes for Luigi being lankier than Mario, which only occurred in '2' on the Nes. Apparently he felt the Japanese 2 lacked new direction, just being the same gameplay with increased difficulty, where Mario 2 US innovated. (He also worked on the Japanese version of the game, which had been an unrelated title at the time which was re-skinned into a Mario game to sell better in the US.) Proof that regional marketing isn't always a bad thing.
One of the happiest memories of my life was when I was a kid and my mom and I both couldn't sleep one night and we stayed up hours playing video games on super Nintendo (this was the game we played).
It is because of two reasons, one is it is a SUPER MARIO games collection and most importantly it is because they games intended to speak to the inner child in all of us.
When I was growing up my grandmother had a SNES and her favorite video game was super mario all stars. Her and I would spend the whole day playing super mario all stars every saturday after shed bake up a batch of her delicious scones she'd make. Now it's been 10 years since her passing and whenever I have a chance , I'd bring out the SNES and just play super mario all stars just to remember her and all the good times we had every Saturday. R.I.P grandma.
It's nice to see this collection return on the SNES Online Service, it's been a long time since I last played this game and it was one of the first two games that I rented at a local video store.
I keep putting this on to sleep to. It gives me relaxing nostalgic vibes of a much happier care free time in my life. But then the SM3 boss music banger kicks in and gets me hype. I absolutely love this game.
Well I have it on my classic my sister bought this from a guy for my birthday. He must have added many more games to it there were lots of files with lots of snes games when I first played it so I had fun. I thought every snes classic had this
I think it was left out of the classic because of that Wii port that was released years ago during Mario's 25th anniversary being currently available due to it being part of the Nintendo selects.
We might not get it though. Because we got the original 3 on NES classic edition. And have super mario world in the SNES classic edition. It has a low chance that it might come to the SNES classic edition. Probably next year.
I know i wished that too but hey at least theres super mario world super mario kart super mario rpg the legend of the seven stars i also wished that they added mario paint but hey thats that
I forgot about those killer mushrooms in the lost levels. I remember playing it for the first time and getting excited because I thought it was something new for Mario to use, only for it to kill me. 😂
Happy 25th Anniversary SMAS! :-D Our first video game that came with the SNES that my brother got for xmas when he was only six! And I recall; "As the title screen lit up, he felt strangely mesmerized. He was faced with a different world of creatures and obstacles like never before."
I remember playing Mario bros 3, and I've been getting extra lives by matching cards on every SINGLE level (except castles and air ships). NOW, I've FINALLY saw someone matching mushrooms cards and to see what it looks like. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I'm 36. and during the loneliness of coronavirus I'm looking up the long plays of the games I used to play as a kid and oh man the memories and nostalgia. It's like i'm high as a kite! No need to even play it myself and get fustrated. Through the vdieos i remember childhood the way I wanna remember it! OWNING in video games :D. If i try to play them now its just too much time and i can't put myself in that state of childhood like wonder as I braved the games completely blind, just based on box art!!
Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development developed the compilation after the completion of Super Mario Kart (1992) at the suggestion of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. No longer restricted by the limitations of the 8-bit NES, Nintendo chose to remake them for the 16-bit SNES. The developers based the updated designs on those from Super Mario World (1990) and strove to retain the feel of the original games. Nintendo released Super Mario All-Stars worldwide in late 1993 and rereleased it in 1994 with Super Mario World included. The compilation marked The Lost Levels' first release outside Japan; it was not released on the NES in Western territories because Nintendo deemed it too difficult at the time.
Super Mario All-Star + Super Mario World is not only the greatest collection for all these Mario games, but there also some of the best games ever created. I love this game.
I loved playing this as a kid..i never beat any of the games lol but still had fun ..super mario all stars is a CLASSIC and that's it 🔥 also..incredible longplay btw !!
I still own my SNES cartridge and beaten all four games, though Lost Levels is a pain. This game had BEAUTIFUL remasters of the NES games and I strongly version this over them. Nostalgia.
I'm just started playing Super Mario All-Stars on my Nintendo Switch, right now. It just got added on Nintendo Switch Online. I love this all-star video game!
I was about 15 when I first beat all of these games not without warping though I now could beat all these games without warping if I tried beating it all in on go it would probably take me like oh like 10 to 15 hours doing it without warping I don't know how you managed to do this in less than 5 hours that's incredible you're a great player 😁
I definitely remember this game. I enjoyed everything this compilation had to offer. Get this, back then I didn’t like Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA/DokiDoki Panic) because I didn’t know how to play it but as of now I like and appreciate it for what it is. Shocking isn’t it?
You know Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels was the original intent to be Super Mario Bros 2 but it was deemed too hard for American gamers. It was Japans idea.
Token Black Yes it’s very hard compared to the other 3 games on All Stars. Cheap enemy placements, larger pits, Luigi having major skid as if on ice, more enemies on screen, pipes that make you go back a world or more, wind that pushes you, more level hazards, more confusing mazes in the castles, etc. Mario does jump a little bit higher than in the first SMB game but Luigi jumps a lot higher.
Aww so good. I love the SNES Mario games! Does anyone want to come round mine for some beers and a mario snes night? I wanna watch someone play through Earthbound aswell.
The Mother series is amazing, I love it so much, I beat the whole series. Earthbound was also my first favorite, Earthbound beginnings/ Mother and Mother 3 are tied for second.
I had a copy of this that was the all stars + smw and ended up taking it to a professional kinda retro game shop near me expecting maybe like 30-40$ just for being a classic gem, I ended up getting about 350$ for it since its a “real copy from the 90s” I only came to the decision because I’ve just been easily doing the emulators on my phone so why not. Did NOT expect that offer though🤑😝 win win. Anyway just thought it was a coincidence seeing this on my feed and that experience just the other day

Bowser was so easy lol to beat in this game. 😂
Yes
This game needs more recognition.
I agree
Only now found out about it, definitely emulating it on switch. It's basically a more smooth version of the Super Mario game series.
videogameflumingo
An offical version is finally on switch for the mario anniversery.
The All-Stars versions of the games are underrated compared to the original NES versions.
Agreed.
Damn, nearly half this video's length is Super Mario Bros 3 alone. Really goes to show you how much bigger it was than the other three games...
why is this oddly comforting to watch?
Cuz nostalgia mkayy
*Memories of childhood*
It is because of two reasons, one is it is a SUPER MARIO games collection and most importantly it is because they games intended to speak to the inner child in all of us.
Cuz you like guys
Not when he gave up the tanooki for the leaf though
I grew up with this on the snes, so when we got the original smb on the wii shop, I had quite the shock in quality

Man, I sure do miss those days. Coming home from school and playing that until my dad tells me to go to bed
I wanna go back to the 90's. When life was fun and video games were worth playing. Games like this
You think modern games are trash?

One of the best releases on the snes. Absolute classics combined into one

You: search for 3D all stars.
UA-cam: here’s some regular all stars :D
@2080 Because 4 is better than 3
It happens to me but inversely
You're getting a better package with this since these are actually remakes instead of just bare-bones emulations...
I remember playing these games as a kid, but i also remember watching our little brother play because he was the best at them lol
I used to own this game back in the early 90's, on the SNES as a kid!
Same here & now I'm 32 years old & I still have it & I play it from time 2 time cuz I'm a grown female that has responsibilities
27 years old, and I still have this since childhood.
oh how i adore the colorful, cheery graphics of this game
I keep putting this on to sleep to. It gives me relaxing nostalgic vibes of a much happier care free time in my life. But then the SM3 boss music banger kicks in and gets me hype. I absolutely love this game.
I've always loved the LEGO bricks in the boss battles of the second game
I love this collection, it has the best Mario games ever and smb2 lost levels
I played this game as a child and died so many times. The person playing is impressing me beating levels while small, something I could never do.
This game with comes from Mario world included and was probably the best bundle package I’ve ever seen

When the music dropped at 1:36 so many childhood memories came back
It's a crime this wasn't on the classic.

I remember every Friday and Saturday night me and some friends would have snacks and drinks while playing this game on the Super Nintendo
Glad this is on the Nintendo Switch Online. Fun collection of Mario games. 😀
I like those game in 16 bit more than 8 bit in my opinion. They're so much fun and colourful.
Plus they have save feature. The All Star versions is hands down the best remake of Mario.
Are you Canadian
JJ C same. I always preferred 16 bit sprites over 8 bit.
I don't, I prefer the 8 bit original version of the mario bros. Series, the way it was meant to be played. Nothing beats the originals
The controls is also an improvement on the All-Star version since it borrowed the same physics from World. Which I liked.
