Great video. I was born and raised in Gordon and remember the survey marker. In the video, as you were searching for it, I had a flash memory thinking of the cut marks on it. As kids, we were always climbing the Sand Hill and the Fire Tower. I remember climbing the tower the night of The 5-Mile Fire and seeing the flames shortly after it crossed HWY T. I could go on for hours about the various connections. I haven't been home to the US in many years and it was great seeing the old town again. Thank you.

Thank you for the great video. My grandpa Bill Hoyt worked up in the tower over the years. When I was child I tried to climb up but never could make it to the top. My sister did. Your video brought back memories.

Your welcome. Glad I could bring back some memories for you. I think there was a picture of your grandpa towards the end of the video too.

That is fantastic to see and love that it is still open to the public!! The history of these fire towers is amazing, and unfortunately, many are simply being dismantled here in Nova Scotia where there is a such a rich history of their use. Takes me back a long time since I first climbed one in my youth and thought what a cool job that would be. A great share!! Bruce and Otis

Glad you enjoyed it. It's sad to see them disappear. Nova Scotia has always intrigued me for some reason. You have some amazing videos of that area! I've been binge watching curse of oak island too so that adds to the allure.

Great to see it reminded me of the game Firewatch that I recently played. Very interesting to see and learn about the history. Nice to find that marker too. You did a very good job putting this together. Take care!

I worked the tower out of Hayward Wi. on hwy B for a couple years . Fun job and some folks would climb up and visit and cookies if I was lucky. Same style tower. If we saw smoke we'd give a azimuth reading and approximate distance to Park Falls by radio. Alot of times 2 towers could report the same smoke and Park Falls pin point the fire crossing the readings. I heard Gordon on the radio many times .

Hi Kathy, I've seen some of the crazy mountains you've climbed.. I think you would be just fine. No wind when I went up so that helped. My wife wanted no part of it though!😬🤣

I climbed the fire tower in 1952, you got into the enclosure at the top through a trap door on the floor using a ladder, not steps. My name is on one of the brass plaque on the steps going up. Brian Finstad is probably a grandson or grandnephew to my friend Pat Patterson Finstad who made the climb with me, after we rode our bikes from Solon Springs, ten miles north.

Thats really cool!. I forgot to mention that they replaced the wooden steps, but i didn't know it had a ladder instead of stairs.

@@UpNorthAdventures Just for the last up to the top. Probably to discourage teens like us from climbing up there!

Sure looks like it. Noticed ruins of an old fort nearby so it was probably kids.

@@UpNorthAdventures The marks were there from at least the early 1970s, I'm fairly certain I know who did it.
