So it looks like you don't have to install this seat with lower and/or anchors and tethers?

No, mifold uses the vehicle's seat belt system - please do contact support@mifold.com if you have any further questions!

Why not pull out the entire seat-belt after to lock the belt from being able to be pulled out further? Then you reel in the belt until about tight and now the belt won't move out any more... can't lean forward. Does that make sense?

      Dear CB,
      Thank you for your comments.
Most vehicles in North America have seat belts with 'Switchable Retractors'. These retractors switch from an emergency locking retractor mode (ELR) that locks up in the event of a crash, to an automatic locking retractor mode (ALR) that will lock the seat belt into the retractor as the webbing is retracted. This locking feature in the ALR mode is often referred to as a “child restraint locking feature” and is recommended for installing rear-facing or forward-facing car seats with internal harnesses. In most vehicle seating positions the locked mode occurs when the seat belt is fully extended from the retractor. I believe this is what you are referring to.
In the instruction manuals for the mifold range of grab-and-go booster seats and hifold fit-and-fold highback booster seats, you will find information on switchable retractors, it says:
Many vehicles have a lap and shoulder belt system in which the retractor can be switched from the emergency locking mode (ELR) to an automatic locking mode (ALR). The ALR mode is not designed for use with booster car seats and mifold seats are not recommended for use with a lap and shoulder belt in the ALR mode.
I hope this answers your question. Please reach out to us on support@mifold.com if you have any other questions on this, or other issues.

@@jonsumroy5730 Thank you! That was a very thorough. I never knew about the ELR ALR names for this feature of the belts. I will have to look more into it. My son's current main car-seat has has a five point that is LOCKED (won't pull out to give slack) while he is in it. While he is in the hifold chair with the ALR not activated, the belt is loose, giving him the ability to lean forward to the sides. I would think engaging ALR would keep him in place. Do you understand the reasoning why it's not recommended to use ALR on the belt while securing him to the hifold? Thanks!

@@Mifold I think he's pointing out an important part of the installation of the seat belt which cannot be clearly seen in the demo at 1:03

@@rj45ac Hi - the section at the beginning, including the seat belt routing at 1:03, is a quick overview of the overall process. The detailed step-by-step explanation for securing a child in the seat is chapter 4, which starts at 6:15. Specifically the instructions for how to thread the lap bet through the lap belt guides is from 7:30 to 7:45. Specifically the instructions for how to thread the shoulder bet through the shoulder belt guide is from 7:45 to 8:00. I have reviewed this again just now, and I am confident that this shows the process clearly. However, I will be interested to know how you think we can improve this. Please will you send your thoughts to support@mifold.com. Thanks.
