Hey friends! We'll be returning to release order after this. We did NOT watch the end credits scene lol, I promise. Really loved this one and looking forward to hearing your thoughts! ❤❤
Oh thank God!
You will be free to watch the after credits scene from this after Avengers: Endgame
So glad you chose to do this one film out of release order! The others probably work best in release order, but this one truly belonged here.
@@A1990MusicMan yeah this movie really should have been released before Infinity War
Oooooh thanks ! i was afraid you could have one of the biggest mistakes... in the MCU, postcredit scenes are the reason why it's always very dangerous to watch the movies out of the release order...
I'm more of a casual mcu fan but I freakin' LOVE this movie. Especially all the scenes in between the action ones. To me they have an indie-esque feel to them. And that opening credit scene, chills every time! Keep the reactions coming! (Oh, and Florence Pugh is AMAZING in this!)
I'm glad you focus on the feminism of the movie, and that this villain exists in the real world. I saw some critics criticizing the villain for being one dimensional. That always bothered me. He's a human trafficker. These people exist and there is no humanizing them. They are every bit as evil, narcissistic, and abusive as this character is. And more socially acceptable versions of these monsters exist in legal areas of power as well.
Definitely! I’m glad they didn’t make him have a sobby backstory to justify what he did. He is just pure evil.
You are right and i Think most of the person that didnt like it is because the Taskmaster is not the one they hope or more close to the comics), but for me was good because the main villian is the lider of the Red Room, and for Nat this is the main villian in her life, we want to understad why Nat was like we know it, well knaw we know why...
@@patriciaalvareztostado8170 The problem is they used a dude for the stunt double who looks like the real taskmaster only to be a women later on. They even have the suit built like a man.
@@Salik96 yep
yelena and nats dynamic is so good and angsty i sob
Actually happy you watched this first. It’s definitely the way they should’ve released it lol (of course then we wouldn’t have the cast that we have so idk
great commentary. this channel has really grown on me
Me during Avengers: So who's Dreykov and who's his daughter?
Me during Black Widow: Okay, so Dreykov's just a simp of a dudebro misogynist, so I hope Natasha kicks his ass in the worst wa - aaaand he's dead! Great job, Widow fam!
Young Nat is played by Ever Anderson❤️ Daughter of Milla Jovovich (Fifth Element & Resident Evil) Also Love the new Tattoo...
I absolutely LOVE Florence Pugh in this role. I hope you get to watching the Marvel TV stuff too!
I'd love to see a Red Guardian movie with David Harbour.. because I believe him when he says he fought Captain America - just it can't have been Steve, since he was frozen.. it'd be a GREAT flashback to a time in the MCU we haven't really seen..
Also, I cried SO hard at the opening of this movie, when we saw it in the cinema. Even the credits got me. 😭
Started binge watching movie reactions earlier this month. Mostly LOTR and MCU movies. Just realized you do em too. Haven’t seen this movie at all so I will watch the other ones you guys reacted to in order to avoid spoilers. Just wanted to like a like and a comment for this one before
Some MCU movies do a very good job of being about something. Scarlet Johansson was an executive producer of this movie and while also doing a decent job of broaching much darker topics some people don't talk about it also does a very good job as a critique of the world before the MeToo movement. Every member of her family represented a clear response some members of the community had to it, even Antonia who represented a vicarious desire for those like Black Widow to be able to help those they know they left behind as casualties of the cruelties the system allowed. Her mom went through it 4 times, she was numb to it's evils and actively enabled them which is actually one of the ways many women get taken by human trafficking wings, Her dad only cared about the glory other's respected and even gave away the girls under his protection to a very different initiation into his line of work - they had to go through so much worse than him and he didn't wanted to be reminded of it even though he too in his own way was exploited he wanted to live in his glory days, and for Yelena she had no relationships beyond those of her coworkers (nominally actors in the metaphor) and like Sarah Lynn in Bojack Horseman had so many formative experiences with them while for her surrogate parents it was a transactional relationship, held at arms length like a cat you are allergic too because they knew what they'd be subjecting them to later. She trusted them and was abandoned by all of them because it was hard to think about and confront the fate they'd left her to.
Obviously Dreykhov, his gross pheromones and systematic control, and his inability to hear no because he literally never has to is a stand in for Harvey Weinstein and others like him. Who became so used to exploiting women he could only see the tech keeping his daughter alive as an opportunity to use the mimicking tech he stole from Stark. And just like with real human trafficking, and sexual harassment and exploitation it's invisible and everywhere. People have asked why no-one see's it on the map when its clearly visible from satellite - because obviously the widows have access to every institution that could notice them. Even with Taskmaster we see the tech she has looks exactly the same as Tony's suit analyzing and then building a fighting style to counter Cap at the end of Civil War which means even his isn't safe. It's everywhere and it's own victims are those that protected it.
Last thing I definitely think the movie at some point removed and clearly cut from even cut scenes is that widows had a minor version of the super soldier serum applied to them. In the comics that's true of Black Widow and others though it only makes them at most as strong as a normal man and gives them enhanced longevity, and they mention the Winter Soldier brain mapping tech, but also they are clearly messing with their endocrine system, muscles, experiences and other things at a minute level at this point too. I think they thought revealing that at this point in a movie about women being capable on their own and taking down regular men who's only power is their status and instilled fear and brainwashing - that it would have detracted from the point which is a fair guess probably. A lot of the stuff she does is pretty ridiculous even accounting for genetic strength and experience, marvel is used to writing with superhuman protection in mind so it's my one headcanon for this one. Dunno if the downvotes were for just liking the movie that people find ways to hate cause they don't get all that ^ or the dunking on conservatives but great reaction and seeing some of the deeper latticework marvel always has if people are looking.
So when does everyone think the most appropriate time is to watch the end credit scene? After End Game?
i think that is best yes
@SwitchPie except watching the end credit scene while always fun is not absolutely necessary to watching the MCU films. & meg & caleb have every intention of coming back to watch the end credit scene of this film once it's appropriate & safe to.
Beyond excited you both got to this early; Yelena is my newest favorite character and I'm a big Florence Pugh fan! ☺ Chronologically it does make sense, it does suck that Marvel and Scarlett had to push for so long for Black Widow to get her own solo outing considering she's one of the original 6, this movie for sure should have happened way before 2021.
Have to say as well, the opening here is one of the darkest and most haunting intro's Marvel ever did, and i'm glad they did it. They didn't shy away from how traumatising Natasha and Yelena's upbringing was or how evil the Red Room really was.
i wish they followed up on the vision scene showed in age of ultron, having the movie start around there and end with her leaving and joining shield, could also make it way darker and more of a spy movie instead of the same action stuff. but i can see why they didnt since marvel movies are supposed to be mostly happy.
So so good. This film became a surprise favorite for me. Right below Capn America Winter Soldier. That good!
I saw this in the theaters when it came out and I loved the way they crafted the story to be in the middle of civil war and infinity war. I thought the action was James-Bond level ( if not more ) but what really stuck with me was the all-around emotional dysfunction and how they are all victims of tragic events and how they all try to repair their relationships. It felt like Natasha and Yelena needed this mission to repair their broken relationship, to bond with each other and to get closure from the past. In the end, it is a movie about healing.
It's unfortunate that this movie did not do as well at the box office compared to other Avenger-related movies due to the studio's poor decision of releasing it simultaneously on streaming. I love your in-depth reaction as always and you two always know how to dissect the story and the characters at the end of the review in the most insightful way.
already watched the full reaction on patreon but i just wanted to say that this is one of my favorite marvel movies, idc what anyone says. it really spoke to me and means a lot to me. it’s about healing, forgiveness, sisterhood, and not letting trauma or your worst moments define you. even tho it came out in 2021, she deserved this movie in 2016!
Again everyone. Meg has been warned about the end credit scene so she has not watched the end credit scene. So you all can relax as only the movie as in this reaction had been watched.
I'm honestly glad you guys watched this first instead of Doctor Strange cause technically this movie was intended to release some time after Civil War. And with the ending it actually does set it up nicely for the other movies that follow (excluding the end credit scene which I know you guy's didn't watch). I won't say why or how obviously because spoilers but now I understand cause I never watched this movie before your reactions. Definitely the highlights for me in this movie is Yelena and Red Guardian. I liked Taskmaster but I feel like we never got enough of her. I felt like she was kind of underutilized and I wish we saw more of her especially with how important the character is in the comics. But as with all your reactions, I loved every minute of it! Thanks for another great reaction guys!! :)
They said they already watched Doctor Strange and Spiderman Homecoming and Black Panther. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓
Honestly doesn’t bother me either way if you do chronological or release order with some of these movies, I just love these reactions in general, I always look forward to a new MCU reaction :)
You gotta catch up on the hawkeye series for more Black Widow stuff
fun fact the lil girl who played young natasha is the daughter of the actress who was the main character in the resident evil franchise
Young Natasha (Ever gabo Anderson)
is Milla Jovovich's daughter
I love that your doing this chronologically but the hard part with doing this is you might get spoiled about what might happen, since this movie was made after Endgame. You can do whatever you want but I think that you should watch it the way they came out so you don't get spoiled. Just my two cents.
I appreciate your opinion! We do plan on going back to release order now 😌
I do hope you liked the movie definitely took too long to get this movie for her out but I enjoyed it. Was a great movie for her.
i just saw that spiderman homecoming comes out after civil war in 2016 then doctor strange 2016-2017 followed by black widow then black panther thor ragnorak then ant-man and the wasp then avengers infinity war in 2017
How did you know not to watch the end credits scene?
Also wanted to add that, from what I heard around the web, the only reason that we have this movie happening so late and being the only solo Black Widow movie is that the former CEO of Marvel, Ike Perlmutter, had a bunch of assholish old fashioned views and thought that a female led super hero movie would never do well, so he always blocked any attempts at making them. I heard he also blocked toys being made of female super heroes for that very same reason. And that even Kevin Feige threatened to quit at some point due to him wanting things changed at the MCU, and that's when they just made him the president of Marvel and made Kevin the new CEO.
I'm fine that you watched this movie now due to where it falls into the timeline. But especially since you didn't watch the post credit scenes. Once you get caught up though, I would really recommend remembering to come back and watch those scenes.
watch the hawkeye series after you finish endgame, natashas sister turns up and is great fun
I love react.This movie is so good❤❤🕷
I love this movie so much 🥰
I absolutely love this movie, it is my comfort movie and I've seen it probably around 30x now and never get tired of it. It doesn't deserve the hate It gets from toxic men fans who don't understand how dark and truly scary this movie is.
It touched on real life issues of human trafficking that goes right over their heads. Dreykov is the scariest marvel villan because there are actually people like him and people who think like him irl.
I love Natasha and Yelenas sisterly bond, and the chaotic and somewhat disturbing family dynamics. I do hate Alexei and will always hate him. He doesn't deserve to be forgiven so easily.
And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Florence pugh and her portrayal of Yelena, she by far stole the movie. And I can't wait to see her in future projects, I am glad Scarlett got her own movie even if it's long overdue and she deserved a trilogy like everyone else.
Don’t worry after literally 9 more movies you guys can watch the end credit scene😂 but post credit scene aside I am glad you watched this now it fits better
Florence Pugh stole this movie. :)
yep
OFC NO😂😂THIS DAMN MOVIE IS NATS MOVIE AND NAT BETTER THAN EVERYTHING,SHE IS SO COOL AND BADASS❤
Honestly, this is a pretty great movie, with wonderful characterization for Natasha, that just got released at the wrong time. It takes place in the middle of phase 3, but since it is the very first movie of phase 4 it feels pretty disconected from everything. Also, since COVID happened, and everything got delayed, this was the very first marvel movie since like, 2019, which meant that people ended up expecting more from this movie than they otherwise probably would have if it had just released when they planned it to. And lastly, because of COVID, there were some issues with production that ended up causing it to have some pretty bad CG at places, and while that's not entirely the movie's fault it was kind of noticeable for me, personally. Anyway, I do feel like people would have liked this movie a lot more if it had just been made and released alongside the other phase 3 movies.
Black panther should have been after this film
i'm glad you didn't watch the end credits scene * phew lol * there are some major spoilers there but i'm not gonna disclose much.. anyways, thanks for your reaction as usual :D nat is one of my all-time favs, and i hope this movie gave you guys more insight into her backstory :)
Just here to see American pie reaction🎵🎶
There are inevitably going to be comments complaining about this movie. Usually by people comparing it to the comics instead of taking them as totally separate things. Ignore the haters
Plus going to pick up documents....lolol
How's it going?
With Natasha's Black Widow family, you can really see how much ripping their family apart in Ohio affected them all and how they chose to deal with their trauma.
- Natasha, she just tried to live in denial, forget about her parents and tell herself somehow Yelena was living a normal life.'
- Melina tried to be more unfeeling and clinical about the process, and tried to treat the ordeal as part of the job. You could see the facade breaking during their family meal.
- Alexei was told "You're gonna be Russia's Super Soldier and better than Captain America so it wasn't for nothing" but got locked up instead (an interesting easter egg i found; he has Natasha and Yelena's nnames in russian tattooed on his right shoulder. It's briefly visible during his arm wrestling scene)
- Yelena had the worst because she was so young, those 3 years in Ohio were all she knew. Plus she had to be subjected to chemical brainwashing, so no chance to break out of it like Natasha did.
Hoping for doctor strange reaction my one of the fav superhero but black widow is also great i hope doctor reaction come as fast as it can but after phase 3 and phase 4 start there is no need for chronological till now
Dang was looking forwards to Doctor Strange lol
You laugh at sad part at dinner table part. 😤
She giggles through everything - that, and she doesn't keep her politics out of her commentaries. Last one I watch from them.
Are you ready for Doctor Strange?
The movie would be awesome if it kept the climate from the beginning.
#britishblackwidow
There is a HUGE spoiler at the very end of the movie
Danns pls we made it clear that we didn’t watch it!!
Look y’all, I get that you’re passionate about the order in which people are supposedly supposed to watch these movies, but we’re having fun. That’s all that matters.
If that irks you, that’s cool, but keep it to yourself. Gatekeeping is gross.
There is a way to express feedback in a respectful way, which a few in the comments have done. On the otherhand, there are comments like "this is the *wrong* way to watch", "I'm done with y'all", "this is triggering", etc. It's a side to a fandom that is really discouraging and hurtful, especially since what's done is done.
@UCZSPLVhdu9hkVmH_HZgf2yw don’t gaslight them when people including you are being unnecessarily aggressive and annoying. you know exactly what you’re doing. i’m gonna stop commenting now bc this is exhausting but meg and caleb don’t owe you a damn thing. i’m embarrassed to be a part of a fandom that chases ppl with pitchforks and get angry over something as minuscule as a watch order for some superhero movies…hope u find some peace and healing for whatever is making you so angry about other ppls choices.
The person that wanted you to skip the end credit scene was cruel. YOU really need to watch it, especially if you have or plan to watch Hawkeye! 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓
Given that meg & caleb for this movie decided to watch it right after Civil War which as we all know takes place right after storywise which I'd why may others have stated & recommended they watch this then go back to release order. She will get to watching the end credit scene of this film eventually but as of right now so she & caleb are not spoiled they have avoided it for now. As they said earlier on in this reaction vid.
BUt if the havaent watch Infinity War and Engame you cant watch it, because that spoil the plot
@@patriciaalvareztostado8170 It definitely doesn't spoil the plot of 2 movies, just an event.
You can check out "ur internet mom ash", she watched Black Widow like Meg did, and totally loved what happened in Endgame.
so if you wanted to rewatch the movies you'll start with captain america the 1st avenger then captain marvel ironmen 1&2 the incredible hulk then thor followed by avengers ironman 3 thor dark world winter soldier guargians 1&2 then age of ultron the ant-man then civil war
Honestly, if you were going to watch this now...I would have watched it before Endgame. Yeah, chronologically it fits here...but this movie fits perfectly in the spot taken by Captain Marvel. I can't say too much without spoiling anything, but if Marvel did things ever so slightly different, they literally could have swapped this and Captain Marvel, and what happens in Endgame would have more weight to it, while Captain Marvel could have been introduced in Phase 4 instead and everything would still be on course as normal.
unfortunately I do think this is one of the weaker phase 4 movies
This movie was garbage, and gender-swaping Taskmaster was one of the biggest mistakes Marvel Studios has ever made.
Sure dude whatever
Lol You didn’t HAVE to say anything if you hated it so much
@@TheNamelessFilm This is a movie, not a deceased person that you say only good things about him or you don't speak at all.
I personally disagree. I personally was looking forward to the character and was somewhat disappointed because it wasn't a character with it's own agency, but a brainwashed enforcer. When that brainwashing is over the characters in some ways isn't the Taskmaster anymore, so the character's story might end there, which also isn't fun because I wanted such a villain to stick around. That's how it seemed to me, but I might be completely wrong. Maybe the character continues from here still with her abilities but now with their own agency and motivations. If so I think that's dope. That is what I wanted but didn't get, but what we got was fine, the brainwashed enforced is a cool tragic character. It just isn't what I expected from Taskmaster. I'm pretty happy with the movie overall though. So in conclusion: Taskmaster isn't what I originally wanted, but it was fine. I had some problems with it but the character being a woman was not one such problem. To me that was completely inconsequential and I don't understand how one could think that's such a big problem.
i’m sure kevin feige cares
Actually happy you watched this first. It’s definitely the way they should’ve released it lol (of course then we wouldn’t have the cast that we have so idk
