    While Odin definitely is not in the running for father of the year - lets take stock of what Loki did to land him in the dungeon:
    - Brought frost giants into Asgard
    - Have them attempt to kill Odin while he was sleeping
    - Tried to kill Thor
    - Tried to destroy Jotunheim (an entire world!) with the Byfrost
    - Invaded Earth (another entire world!), killing thousands at the very least.
    - Killed Phil Coulson
    In my opinion, at a certain point "My daddy wasn't nice to me/I found out I was adopted" stops working as an excuse for being objectively terrible.

      Exactly. We're supposed to somewhat sympathize with Loki in the first Thor. But Avengers and the first act of this movie are not meant for the audience to sympathize with Loki at all. The second and last act of this movie is intended to start the redemption arc, but we should be long past making excuses for what Loki has done.

      Ok. I thought I was alone in thinking that while watching her reaction.
      It felt like she was absolutely excusing what damning things he did and lives he took because his mean daddy didn't let him die as a baby.
      As for the first movie, Odin was not favoring Thor at all. He ripped him a new one when he did stupid mistakes.
      Thor still didn't try to murder him or his family members, so.....
      He learned to humble himself and grow up. Loki just doubled down on his deviance and made thousands suffer because he felt slighted.
      Honestly, his intro made him seem more of a spoiled entitled man child who didn't get what he narcissistically felt he deserved. A man that hungry for power and for dictatorship shouldn't be in charge anyway.

    Them hating on odin had me angy💀 I actually agree with his harsh response to loki’s actions on earth. He was reasonably soft in response to his actions in Thor, and loki is definitely in need of a reality check. Odin does that by reminding him of his true birth right, showing him how his arrogance and entitlement is corrupting him.

    • @bloodymares

      It's still a shitty thing to say. "You'd be nothing without me" is a desperate manipulation tactic by a narcissist. Odin is responsible for the way he lied and treated Loki as a second to Thor, artificially making them rivals, not caring about parenting Loki. Meg and Caleb were right to hate on Odin in this movie because he was written as a jerk instead of a wise king. I wish they kept his character more in line with the first movie, where he made mistakes in the past but gained wisdom by the time his kids grew up. He's somewhat redeemed in Ragnarok, but still, this movie did him dirty.

    The reason why odin was so desperate to keep Jane in Asgard was to protect the infinity stone that was in her with him being 18.000 years old he knows there are others who will try and use it. And when the collector said "1 down 5 to go" he's talking about the infinity stones

I would exchange e-mails with people that I e-met in certain forums, and then our topics would be made to happen soon after! Before the 1990s, it was regular mail. Like my notion that "Thor" is a good source for Shakespearean drama and that people who are well-versed with his works should make the movies! I even mentioned Kenneth by name!

    At the very end of Thor 1 it is pretty evident (to me at least) that Sif has feelings (when she is talking to Frigga). I don't really think it is evident earlier in part one. I don't think Sif is aware of the Jane/Thor thing until the battle VS the Destroyer. She probably didn't know she had feelings until he showed someone else interest [weirdly, it kinda happens often].

    Dark World is definitely one of the most underrated MCU movies. Thors and Lokis dynamic is fantastic.
    Also, Odin is shitty, sure, but Loki spending his time in prison is definitely reasonable considering what he has done in the first Thor and the Avengers.
    And yes, Jane Foster will die almost immediately in the eyes of an Asgardian. So Odin not wanting Thor to be in a relationship with her is nothing against humans, its just him being pragmatic.

    • @Alewaxon
      @Alewaxon 2 роки тому

      People seem to forget that if Thor were to be with Jane, like in a serious way... She would be queen of Asgard... A mortal with an incredibly short life span... It would not only cause grief to Thor but it would also be incredibly unfit for Asgard as a realm... Like you said, Odin is being pragmatic about the situation, for the point of view of Thor's emotional state in just a few years and also from the point of view of a ruler that has a duty to his citizens.

    While I don’t hate Odin as much as you guys and probably several do, I can understand the hatred for him. The way he dealt the punishment out to both of his sons and how he treated them, I wouldn’t say I was a big fan of. Especially with how he treated Loki. Not only locking him up but also in a way humiliating him by having him treated like just another prisoner instead of the son he helped raise. Although, I can’t say I was completely with Loki at first considering he killed many and was part of the destruction of New York. And also cause he’s a trickster god so I was always skeptical about his intentions. But I did feel awful for him after Frigga died and you can see how much it truly affected him. One thing that I got a real kick out of from this movie was the effects for the Aether and how demonic it made Jane Foster’s eyes look when they were in Svartalfheim and just the visuals for the Aether itself were so trippy and sick. I loved it. Also the other scene in Svartalfheim when Thor and Loki tricked Malekith I thought was awesome when I first watched this since I legitimately didn’t see it coming. Now while I do like Thor Ragnarok more than this, I don’t think this movie was as bad as some made it out to be. Plus both yours and Caleb’s reactions made this such a delight and fun to watch compared to when I first watched this alone. Thanks for such another fun reaction guys! You both are in for another fun time with the Winter Soldier. It not only has some of my favorite fight scenes of all the movies but it’s also the first time you get to see one of my favorite characters in the MCU. I won’t say who but I will say she’s quite magical

      @@MegMage Same here. I love morally grey characters a lot too especially when you understand the reasons for their ambitions and goals and they aren't exactly all black and white. I know this is DC related but as you continue to watch Batman the Animated series, you're gonna come across a lot of villains like that and they are some of the best episodes in the series. Loki I've always thought he was such a fascinating character. I love that you can never really be sure of what his true intentions are. People have said he's like the Joker with how unpredictable he is. Loki was definitely the standout for me in this movie but once you guys get to Thor Ragnarok, I feel like you're gonna love Thor and Loki even more because I absolutely did after watching that movie! Also no problem on the insights. Like I said, you guys made this so much more enjoyable watching this together than when I watched this for the first time alone

      Technically, Loki was the cause of Frigga's death, so I wouldn't call it "unforgivable." Not sure, but Odin may have told him about her death, not personally, but sent someone to tell him, so I can't say for sure he was even that callous although I have seen parents neglect their kids for a time after their spouses have died because of grief. It's not right, but it does happen and it's not intentional.

    • @ldkinbote
      @ldkinbote 2 роки тому

      That is not at all the reason I disliked this when it came out. I liked Loki as a villain and wanted to see him grow and have a redemption. I liked the Loki stuff in this the most. My problem with this movie was the villain of the dark elves. I couldn't connect with them at all and felt they were just a sort of generic boogeyman that needed to be fought, which really sucks 'cause 1. I really like Christopher Eccleston as an actor and 2. the dark elves sound really interesting and could've had really interesting lore. I also thought it was slightly too jokey considering the seriousness that we were supposed to have for the dark elves situation. This was the only movie I didn't rewatch after it came out...until after Endgame. I found more of an appreciation for it after that, even though I still don't love it, I don't mind watching it when before I was very against the thought of even watching it again. I was almost annoyed with it before.
      Also, like many others have said, Odin ain't a great dad, but Loki can't blame every terrible thing he's done on his feeling that Odin wasn't fair to him when Loki's perspective is not necessarily the truth. It's how he feels, but there's no real indication that Odin was more an asshole to him than Thor really. I feel there's WAY too much outsized hate for Odin in this reaction and complete overlooking of the horrible things Loki did by choice. I mean, he made plans. Quite a few, to do terrible things. I like his sense of humor, but that definitely doesn't excuse the stuff he did and say his actions shouldn't have consequences.
