- I was so excited to watch Black Widow for the first time! And that End Credit Scene!!!
I was so excited for this movie but even more excited that Florence Pugh is officially in the MCU! I'm such a huge fan and I'm so excited for her.
Black Widow is a 2021 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Cate Shortland from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Olga Kurylenko, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz. Set immediately after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), the film sees Romanoff on the run and forced to confront a conspiracy tied to her past.

Those opening credits are some of the most well crafted ways of story telling I've ever seen in the MCU. Smells like teen spirit already evoces very angry and hyped emotions, slowing it down to a montage of news coverage and these poor women being trained really awakened something in me that no other film has ever been able to achieve
"I knew it! It's so cool, right?!" Yelena is iconic and I can't wait for her to return as part of a Dark Avengers/Thunderbolts plotline.
The bizarre chemistry between David Harbour and Rachel Weisz was a lot of fun, and you can see a lot of shared mannerisms between Milena and Yelena, especially with their dry humor. "Clearly, I am injured..."

I don't think that Yelena will be member of Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers, probably fist she will try to kill Hawkeye but then she will find out that Valentina was manipulating her and then she will team up with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, it would be so cool if Yelena would become best friends with Kate just like Clint with Nat

The shot of the fireflies at the end was a callback to the fireflies that Yelena pointed out to Melina at the beginning of the movie. It's also kinda a circular ending, which I adore.

Also there is always two credit sequences, the more lively ones and the plain black/white ones. But we got the lively ones in the begining under a smells like teen spirit cover so there was no need for them at the end.
After this Yelena literally is our new favorite character. She is so amazing!
They did the fancier bit of the credits at the beginning instead of the end. Usually at the beginning they just pop up the title.

If you haven't heard it, you should really check out the Scala and Kolacny Brothers' cover of Teen Spirit. Probably my favorite of the gajillion covers of the song.

I like that the themes and subtext of the movie are directed at a female audience. Not enough action movies do that.

Talk about adding insult to injury. Bad enough they had to kill off her character so ignobly but then to make her movie just a way to introduce her replacement. Natasha deserved so much better than she got.

Your love for Florence is so relatable 🤣 She made this movie for me. I love Scarlett and no one will top her, but Yelena comes Very Very close.
I enjoyed this movie but I think it would've been much more powerful and better for the MCU in terms of being a different type of film than we're used to if we stuck with young Natasha and maybe told the story of how Hawkeye and her first met and got her out of the red room.

This movie was my introduction to Florence Pugh's acting chops and my my have I been missing out. She stole every scene she's in. (Also since the release of this, I have now also seen her in Midsommar and Little Women, her range is incredible).

What? The fireflies are a callback to the opening scene in 1995 Ohio when Yelena scrapes her knee and Melina tells both of the girls about fireflies. It represents a memory from their childhood when they had a normal life and family, even if it was kind of fake.

This song really captured the darkness of the opening scene. That's why I'm calling it; The Anthem of Darkness. Something that has beauty inside if you look closely. During the chorus, you can really tell that she duplicated he vocals to make it sound as if it was two people singing. Two women. As if it was both Natasha and Yelena singing. Beautiful

Yelena not only needs her own movie, but she also needs to appear in every single MCU movie and tv show. Falcon, Winter Soldier and Yelena. Next Spider-Man movie, could only be made better if Yelena shows up. Dr. Strange 3 is likely going to be in another dimension, but why not still have Yelena there.

David Harbour's character, Red Guardian, has a variant of the Super soldier Serum that the Russians got from Hydra. Just an observation on the dynamic Natasha takes after Melina and Ylena takes after Alexi which given that neither of them are biological children of either parent is a really interesting case for nature v nurture. Lastly, I love that Val screwed up and did something the Red Room knew better than to try. Her actions are bound to bring the Avengers down on her and her employers. Which Ylena alluded to when she said "The hint is in the name. He kills you and one of the big ones comes to Avenge you." They just sent his best friend's baby sister to kill Clint. That's not going to happen eventually everything is going to come out and when it does The Avengers and the Widow Corps (all the girls they've rescued/are rescuing) are going to team up to tear them a new one.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Yelena's mission isn't actually to kill Clint, but to take him down so Val can "recruit" him, too.

I totally believe (with many many others) that Clint will convince Yelena that he's not responsible. No doubt. There might be a great head to head fight between them (looking forward to that), but he'll convince her.
I was just as annoyed/bugged/bothered, etc by jld's character showing up as much as you seemed to be.

The fireflies are symbolic of the Black Widows around the world as was seen as shimmering blips on Dreykov's screen.
You should give it a try to the new Netflix trilogy Fear Street, I highly recommend it, I'm obsessed with them.

The Red Room was a Soviet program to create super spies. Unbeknownst to the Soviets, Hydra was really running the program.

I really enjoyed the movie.
I totally agree about the end credits being so basic and boring. I'm pretty sure every other Marvel movie (and the Disney+ shows) has had awesome credit sequences. It just seems a little disprespectful to the character who's been around for a decade now, especially since this is like her big encore. She didn't get a funeral in Endgame, and now she doesn't get an end credits sequence in her own movie, that's frankly already about 5 years too late. But I did really enjoy it, and I'm glad we finally got it. And it may be for the best that we got it when we did, because if it had been made sooner, we probably wouldn't have Florence as Yelena, and she was my favorite part of the movie. I love her personality and her humor.

In case it hasn't been recommended, you should watch Young Royals, it's only 6 episodes, but it's sooo good!
We know what happened to Nat. But she survives the Snap, and tries to Avenge the world during that 5 years. And if this movie is a big hit, there could be all kinds of adventures with Yelena & Nat during that time. Some espionage stuff or whatever else.

I'm not a big fan of how Taskmaster was utilized in this movie. I wish they didn't go the 'twist' reveal route with her because having her clearly be female from the start would have allowed them to give her more lines and more of a personality.
That being said, I enjoyed the plot, I thought the action was pretty solid and everyone delivers a great performance, from Scarlett as Natasha to Ray Winstone as the reprehensible Dreykov. Also excited to see more of Florence Pugh. From what we see in this movie Yelena will do a great job carrying on the legacy of the Black Widow in the future.

In my opinion, the Black Widow movie should have been about Yelena hearing about Natasha’s death and coming to terms with being the New Black Widow. That would have been better IMO.
