- Welcome to the next let's play - we are playing Middle Aged Scelaria!
If you're a kinda new player or don't have a great build - Scelaria is a pretty good nation but can fall off as skellyton chaff becomes less relevant.
In the hands of someone with experience, a solid understanding of communions and a good build... this nation transforms into an unbelievable powerhouse.

I like how Lucid goes on and on about the downsides of Sceleria such as bad magic diversity and squishy mages and then out of nowhere drops the "best nation in the game btw" card!
he does that so much go all normal like the boom makes you kek
I mean he's not wrong in a way, its definitely a top 5 nation, with may e something like Nazca being a contender
@@bear-kaiser9242 I'm not sure what that means but I like the way it sounds lol
@@theral056 kek means lol it comes from world of warcraft
Kind of funny to me that the praetorian guard is level 3 bodyguard. When in real life praetorian guard where notorious for assassinating the current caesar they were protecting.
-3 bodyguard, conspicuously missing during assassinations
I think living in a nation where the dead frequently don't stay dead staves off any thoughts of killing your charges.
They were both really, you pay them enough to not kill you and they become very useful bodyguards lol
Yeah. The Assassination of Caesars where just side gig. It is a good idea never to piss off your bodyguards and make sure to keep them loyal.
It's funny that he mentioned the Shadow Vestals are a big fat trap, I sort of have a similar opinion. I played Sceleria once in Dom 4 and created a build around blessing them, big mistake. That was actually game Lucid did an earlier let's play on, he was MA Ermor.
Though to be fair part of it was also just I chose a bad bless.
I think Centurion really should have command 100 instead of 80 , just for the name. Just saying.
Actually, a Roman century did have 100 men, but only 80 of them were soldiers, the other 20 were auxiliary helpers who set up camp and stuff, so Illwinter actually did their history on this one.
In case anyone is interested, the name of this nation is very close to scelera which means "sins" in Latin. I thought that it was a cool name given the theme of a nation falling apart due to the irresponsible use of necromancy.
Also, i'm not sure if you've tried out LA C'tis yet, but they're actually one of my favorite undead/living nations because they have access to undead chariots. With the reanimation bonus item along with their level 3 undead priests, you can get something like 5 undead chariots per turn from each mage. Get 2 or 3 mages and you can quickly spam out enough chariots to just run over a lot of opposition.
Imagine a shadow vestal that wasn't undead, and also didn't have ethereal. You've arrived on the Battle Vestal, Pythium's MA sacred, which I honestly don't understand the purpose of. They seem way too weak to arrow fire, or basically anything with decent attack. Also, I'm pretty sure they don't get a magic attack, either.
They can't expand in the early game without a ridiculous hellbless that the nation doesn't need, but once they can get buffs like fog warriors, strength of giants (or even body ethereal, heh), they are suddenly an alternative to your frontline that is cheaper in resources and upkeep and can also be situationally decisive in combat with a cheap bless (magic weapons, poison resistance against foul vapors or any other resistances...)
So yeah. Magic weapons and resistances rarely help in expansion, but I think there's definitely a place for them.
If you look at it, Principes actually have +1 attack, and +1 defense in comparison to Hastati, so the expectation is that they'd also kill a little bit faster as well. Hard to say if that makes up for the more expensive cost, as well as the fact that Principes can reach old age in a game, whereas you'd almost never expect Hastati to do the same.
Not only that, +1 precision with the javelins as well, and +1 morale, and the +1 hp.
Here we go boys!
What happened to the Miclan videos?
Ah yeah a new series. Loved the magic Germans, but I never mind more content about skeletal Romans.
New lts play? Oh hell yeah!
Principes have +1 Attack, +1 Defense, +1 HP and +1 Morale (and +1 precision, but who cares) compared to the 11 gold Hastati. They are notably better than than hastati, but they might not be 3 gold better.
roughly 10 pop per ghoul as per tool tip. a grand thaumaturge can reanimate 8 ghouls a turn or 80 pop for 8 units but for sake of numbers lets say its 10 ghouls for 100 pop
just taking sceleria as a capital in ma and rounding the population to 30,000(its close enough) to make the numbers evenish its (30,000/100)*(domscales lets say this is neutral for ease)*(1+fortadmin(scelaria is 50)/200) or 300*1.25 so scelaria has 375 income a turn.
after killing 100 pop 29,900/100*1.25 or 373.75 so 10 ghouls are worth roughly 1.25 gold. or .125 gold a ghoul
with growth 1 for .3% growth in your capital at 30,000 pop you will gain 90 pop so its actually sustainable for a single grand thaumaturge to spam as many ghouls as you want. if you go growth 3 you gain 180 pop a turn so you can have 2 grand thaumaturges going at a time
Huh, interesting. Thanks for doing the math, chap!
Aw I was hoping to see the "other" MA Sceleria game. :) I heard the end was a bit of a slog though so no worries if this has better game play. I only saw some late game stuff, so will be interesting to see the build up!
oh ya my favorite nation
Same!
+1 most adorable faction on the dominions discord
Lictors actually can make formations.
xD You're motivated again ? Thought I heard you saying you were a bit tired with all your dom 5 lps lately ? Edit : oh ok you've already finished that game x)
I suppose Sceleria should be pronounced with sh as in sheep due to the name being derived from latin (campus sceleris)
Great guide as always!
Lol @ the photoshopped John Paul II in the thumbnail.
Cloud you play la Ryleh? I hope i spelled it right!!!
Modified Income = (Population / 100) * (dominion scale modifiers) * (1 + fort administration / 200)
Ghouls cost ~1/5 of a velite.
So lets see what this Ys player did wrong compared to myself :)
:-)
principes = Prink-eh-pays, latin is weird
actually english is weird
