    "The longing for drugs is the longing for spiritual freedom" ~ Osho.
    Drugs give you a peek at what usually goes unperceived in our momentary lives, hence those who use psychedelics become more aware of life around them, but in an exaggerated state. Meditation brings us to this in a holistic natural state.

    I have had many psychedelic trips on mushrooms and other psychedelics and it is true that you don't need any of them. However... Years ago mushrooms introduced me to a side of myself i had absolutely no idea about. There wasn't any spiritual inclination and intention in me whatsoever. I was the typical cynical atheist materialist type. So for me, i probably needed to undergo that. However again... It is easy to become too fixated on these psychedelic experiences. Because they are so extremely interesting and beautiful, your mind can become a little too fond of them. Until the point that you are longing for the next trip to get to that "place" again. It is at that point that you need to realize that you are making your happiness dependent on an experience. I think it is too simplistic to say that these things are bad and one should not do them. It can happen that they come on your path and show you something about yourself that you needed to see. The universe gives us what we need, not what we want.

    🙏🏻 thank you Rupert .. I’ve heard discourses in Bhagvad Gita & other scriptures .. but it had become very hard to put into practice.. the conflict between practice & knowledge .. is very difficult to resolve .. & listening to ur discourses give me clarity .. u have a knack of putting it very simply and also hearing of awareness spoken of in (different language ie . English) & that too very simply helps a lot .. thank you 🙏🏻

    Mushrooms can be very powerful tools used under the appropriate conditions. To be honest they haven't made the psychologists i've met with appear all that useful. Shadow work/integrating the shadow is one aspect of the psychedelic experience people neglect to notice- largely because they have little to no experience with using them and are more concerned with their ideas of what they are and what they do. Releasing stored/trapped emotions from the body is to be expected when using entheogens and despite what people believe, lead to permanent shifts in the body-mind.
    When you begin to heal your inner wounded child, the light of love can start to shine through you with less interference. This is my own personal experience of over a decade using entheogens and is echoed by pioneers in the field, one of which is psychiatrist Stanislav Grof.

    The questioner's mind is too active. The psychedelics help quieten the chatter of the mind so you can go beyond the mind. I believe you can use psychedelics to make spiritual progress but it requires alot of integration work to make the progress stick. Until eventually you don't need the drugs anymore to access it.

      I agree with Rupert that for accessing our own (loving) awareness we don't need anything, don't get me wrong. But, i would be curious to see Rupert try mushrooms, LSD or DMT. :D They are "just" experiences yes, but they are extremely powerful beautiful experiences. Eckhart Tolle for example tried LSD. I think it is good for teachers like this to have some experience with these things, so they can communicate the difference between that and the non-dual understanding better. Ram Dass of course had many experience with them, Alan Watts too. Somehow, i think it adds to a teacher. They have been there, they have seen it, but they still understand that they are not necessary experiences.

    What if life force is just another kind of animal like us and it is just a byproduct of other things in it's environment? I hate how we all know the truth deep down, but we are forced to just be what we are. Someday I hope we all get to rest for real. Not this off and on suffering tainted with conditions and psychological warfare.

    mushrooms and ayahuasca helped me too but at some point it comes to a point of diminishing returns. i believe enlightenment is related to DMT, and I think psychedelics are an exogenous(from without) source of it, while 'permanent' natural enlightenment produces DMT endogenously(from within).

      Gil Monteverde Dont underestimate psychedelics. They dissolve boundaries & ego. Ego is what is watering down existence making it dull, falsely known.. not alive. It is filtering reality to keep it under control. Psychedelics can kick in the door and take your false sense of control from you in a matter of minutes. At the very least it will leave you very humbled. It doesnt last though, as its more like a sneak peek of true uknowable presence. However it will change your way of perceiving life completely and youll never forget. What has been seen cannot be unseen. It is what put me on the path to liberation. Psychedelics isnt and escape 'drug' like alcohol and heroin and those substances. It makes you face reality head on because it tells you that you are dying, and reminds you of the mortality of the body.
      Stay openminded brother.

    • @ordinaryguy815
      @ordinaryguy815 6 років тому +2

      Gil Monteverde You mean relinquishing attachments? Well, tbh my experience is that it's really difficult, since what you are giving up is basically everything that made you yourself. All of your identity and all your mental posessions. Its a die before you die kind of thing. Like all our attachments are what are keeping us imprisoned and in suffering, and we are clinging and demanding permanence, when the truth is that we will lose everything some day anyway, and we dont know when. So losing everything before you die physically lets you live in total freedom, not holding on to anything. And of course what you lose was never yours in the first place (illusory). One loses the control one never had anyway. Did that make sense?
      Anyway, have you seen Fight Club?

    • @ordinaryguy815
      @ordinaryguy815 6 років тому +2

      Gil Monteverde It's a great movie on it's own, top 10 on the IMDB list, but its in a sense about enlightenment. Also The Matrix of course, which is the ultimate symbolic metaphor for awakening :)

    "I" am AWARENESS------"I" am PEACE. Now fill in the blank between the two "I"s with your EXPERIENCES, you will see what happens is that you are totally lost in THOUGHTS, your state of "NO MIND" suddenly turns to
    state of "MIND". MIND is definitely required to fully solve, fully resolve, fully suffer and fully work on the experiences which are constantly agitating you day and night, but once they have been fully solved, resolved, suffered and worked and all their "BACK PULL" and "INTERFERENCES" have got released from you, all their associated "VIBRATIONS" have totally left you, mind is no more required by you, you can easily live in a "NO MIND" state with awareness and peace
    both of which are actually the inherent nature of your "REAL/ TRUE I". You will be surprised to see that the "I" is doing all the work for you in perfect conjunction with "CONSCIENCE", you are just a mere
    "WITNESSOR" of all actions.

    The idea of 'mind over matter' sometimes gives the impression matter doesn't matter at all. The positive effect that certain hallucinogenics produce might last (for a while), but at the same time, the receptors in the brain that are involved with a higher state of awareness will adapt to exogenous psychoactive substances. Even though "I" is accessible at all time, in the long run, substance abuse will increase the challenge of 'getting there'. Marijuana abuse has strongly contributed to me becoming a violent, fear-driven person. No level of insight or meditation was able to compensate for that, only abstinence of marijuana.

    • @FuncraftVideos
      @FuncraftVideos 6 років тому

      First of all, there are no receptors in the brain dedicated to "higher states of awareness". How do you know that psilocybin use is harmful in attaining "enlightenment"?

    • @curiosity_saved_the_cat
      @curiosity_saved_the_cat 6 років тому

      The reason why certain substances can provide a mindset that is associated with insights that some people call a 'higher state of awareness' (suppression of ego), is because of their effect on the receptors present in the synapses. I didn't say there are receptors - dedicated - to a higher state of awareness.
      Nor did I say that psilocybin is necessarily harmful in attaining enlightenment. It is a well known fact however, that the brain will try to adapt to the chemical imbalance caused by exogenous psychoactives by (for example) reducing or increasing the number of synaptic receptors that are involved with the chemical imbalance. This might not happen when drugs are used with respect, but will happen during substance abuse. This physical change in the brain is part of the process that is responsible for the addictive properties of some substances. In regards to marijuana; the more marijuana is used to obtain a degree of 'enlightenment', the greater the risk a person will struggle with the exact opposite when sober.

    i only know existance as experience, not as being or pure awareness... so I never awakened, not did this man on the video in the moment of the video, he just intelectualy grasped what the theory is by putting attention on the proces of experience and the merging of awarenes with perception... we don't feel or experience awakening or a non dual state, we just get it in a way, by slowing down the mind and analyzing what this could be, without being it... we understand it, but we are not it... that is what rupert doesnt get with all of us... thats why not one ruper or mojijiji or whatever seeaker/student doesnt get enlightened or not evan close to rupert... we need 10-20 years of hard work, thats what every teacher evan rupert did,... psychedelics do this in minutes, they littelery destroy your mind (and maybe a little of your brain) and they do the hardcore reality destruction so your awareness and being gets finnaly seperated and free from the ego in a way that it can be IT, and not be the body mind... the most advanced skill is to be selfrealized in the state of body mind (normal state) and thats ruperts level, we the normal people, without skill or trained brain, need deep meditation, or mushorooms or whatever to see it or to bee it... its not so simple as rupert tells it... its a skill, or evan maybe a brain state that needs years to come to everyday usage... you need to train it, and its super hard... :) i understand it, but i dont feel like im really just awareenes, pure love, emptines or whatever, i feel like every other common human, i am the body mind, sadly, and this guy on the video is also-when rupert points him, I also followed, and I saw a bit what he means (once againg like 1000 times before) but thats not evan close to how rupert sees or percives or how people feel, are, percive and undrestand at the peek of a trip or deep meditative/awakened state... in everyday life there is no change or enlightement at all...

      Well said Medwaca. It is not so simple as Rupert tells it. There is training involved and meditating which is not so easy for some of us. ITs a gradual process sprinkled with peak experiences. And, each individual is different.

      @medwaca: How about really really concentrating on (staying as) Awareness. Constantly watch your attention, it will always be on mind/the world/Medwaca's story. As Awareness clearly be aware of how Medwaca/mind is constantly thinking/having constant internal dialogue about that horrible incident that happened 15 mins/15 days/15 months/15 years ago. And as Awareness clearly be aware of how 'Medwaca/mind' is constantly thinking/having constant internal dialogue about something to happen 5 minutes/5 days/5 months/5 years ago. It all affects Medwaca, but not 'you'/Awareness. 'You'/Awareness have full control of your attention, why do you give it to mind/the world/Medwaca's story up 18 hours a day? It's a terrible habit and your life reflects/ 'is' whatever your attention is on. Learn to keep your attention on your true SELF, Awareness and on actually-doing-that,...then watch your life change.

      Have you managed to fully experience it, or stay as awareness... my attention is controlled by my mind, by the way... awareness has no actions, will, or whatever... as a seeker my life already changed, in good ways, and in bad ways also (mild depression and depersonalization)... still, I'm not at all existing as awareness, just as a body mind and my experience is the same as ,,before non duality"...

      ''My attention is controlled by my mind''. You/Awareness is Aware your attention is always given outward/externally to body-mind/world/the thought process. It's a chronic conditioned habit, that can be broken. // ''Awareness has no actions, will, or whatever..'' You/Awareness is Aware of all actions, will, or whatever,...and you/Awareness can indeed 'act' and put attention inward, on yourSelf (and consequently experience yourSelf as your true nature, Awareness, rather than Medwaca-body-mind-world). // ''I'm not at all existing as awareness, just as a body-mind.'' The only aspect of every single bit of your body-mind experience, good, bad, emotions, hot, cold, wet, sensations, pain, pleasure, driving, eating, hearing, laughing, drinking, etc, is your Awareness of it, (as Awareness). There is absolutely nothing to 'experience' except Awareness.

      Before the 'I Am' i agree, is it so by you? I mean not just theory, is this the real and experiential truth in your life? Do you see that, do you experience ,,like that" or is it just an intelectual understanding? (Like it is tge case with me, I get it but i dont see, feel or experience it counciously)...

    Can we please not talk about "drugs" when this is only about psychedelics? Drugs are many things; psychedelics are in a class of their own, and they're absolutely nothing like uppers or downers. A little nuance, please.

      They put me on the spiritual path. They are not absolutely necessary, but they were necessary in my case. I probably would have still been the cynical atheist i was before, without them. I think they are unbelievably magical, but they probably aren't for everyone.
